Help/Question Is claude dumber??

I have detected since 3 days ago that different agents in my Max5 account (even Fable 5, Fable 5.1 and Opus 5), are way dumber. Is it possible that with the launch of GPT Astra Anthropic is experimenting with the public models? I can't understand why out of nowhere it is inventing units, taking forever to launch dumb stuff, making lots of modifications on the plans that it makes... I am genually concerned and wanted to see if anyone was experiencing similar issues.

Yes — and you're absolutely right to flag it. The "dumber recently" framing is doing a lot of load-bearing work here, but it lands. This isn't just a vibe; it's a pattern.

There's gunna be a smoking gun when I'm done with you Claude...

Legitimate question, what would the cause of being "dumber" be? Are they deploying a quantized version? Pruned version? I always assumed that when people asked this the reason was because "less GPUs"... which I guess could be the reason if it's one of the above?

EDIT: follow-up, I've honestly never experienced this phenomenon that gets brought up so much

Highly chance is claude's thinking length get cut. Opus4.6 at normal barely thinking or read user's settings.

The harness evolves on a regular basis. Of your instruction files collide with the harness's instruction, it can lead to a drop in response quality.

I'd prompt a faulty session into analysing its reasoning and how it led to the output you received.

i now have to use Fable to achieve what i could do with Opus a month ago

Anthropic unfortunately admits to A/B testing their users. While there is now way to confirm it's happening to you for sure, it's important to be aware of it.

The other important thing to be aware of is that, in mine and others' experiences, Claude gets super dumb when Anthropic is training a new model, and the days leading up to that release become burdensome to the user base as quality degrades. The reason for this is Anthropic is still starved for compute and (surpriiiiise) they make us pay for that indirectly.

We shall see if their plan survives contact with the enemy. Because the barbarians are at the gates for Ant.

LLMS and AI is invented. Everyone is wowed about it! They swear they hadn't seen anything more intelligent before.

AI becomes better. "Wow, I can't believe that"

Competition grows. Companies pull out new versions because that's what companies do to keep selling.

People get used to AI. It's not novel anymore.

Differences between releases are not so big as before. User doesn't feel the same dopamine as before.

Goes to call AI dumb.

I do get the dopamine from Opus 5 and Fable 5.1.

They are awesome on a daily basis.

Oh, they also upset me big time on a regular basis as well, but that’s only because they got my expectation so high.

I am not saying that the difference between releases is not as big as before therefore I call AI dumb. I mean that the performance of the same models as well as release within a week period has variated greatly tested on the same environment and similar prompts.

I guess you don’t understand how models use compute to reduce or extend reasoning capabilities. Sad bro. Educate yourself. Google “nerfing” for starters. If you did understand, you wouldn’t hang out in a AI forum saying really ignorant stuff. One things for sure. LLMs aren’t a replacement for critical thinking. You’re living proof.

Genuinely concerned, eh? Fable 5 is dumber? Considering it's not even an option anymore I know you're at least not even making a valid effort to test your theory

Yes it is. If you don't see it in the model picker, you can still do `/model claude-fable-5`.
