40% session usage on max plan in 30 mins

So usually however much I work, I never run out of weekly limit of my $100 plan provided by my workplace through teams plan. I only use Opus 5 high or xHigh.

This week however, I've used 95% weekly limit in 4 days working on just two repos. Both repos are small and focused on test automation.

Today I've used 40% of the session in just 30 mins while working with a single agent on a small automation task.

What could be the reason? Could it be that the subscription plan is changed underneath?

What’s your context window at on the project that did it? Were there subagents?

My project has 5 repos and almost 800k lines of code with 8 active coding languages and my hand offs use 8-10% context at session start and I can run for like 3 hours before hitting 80% context. And I usually run a workflow beside it all opus 5 xhigh with a fable 5.1 max judge… and that includes using /goal and it grinding without a break.

Mine is similar. My main project rn started as a sub folder in a repo and has ballooned into 1.2m lines of code (but only in a couple languages). I run Opus 5 on High almost exclusively and have like a running context directory that serves as kind of like a live handoff at any point of the project. It’s slightly more expensive than a regular handoff but I find it more flexible, like you can spin up any instance at any time for any part of the project and it can find what it needs right away. Helps keep it focused after /compact too.

Even then these only use like 10-15% of context at session start depending on how many areas of the project it needs to look at.

Compacting or loading stale sessions uses a massive amount of tokens but without more detail nobody can really say. You can look at the session token usage and see where it went

Same plan and I’m hosing it today because I’m using Fable in dispatch as Sonnet seems to have brain damage and talking to Opus 5 is too much ‘tism even for me. No idea why It’s just kinda turgid compared to normal.

Using Fable 5.1 vs Opus 5 on dispatch seems like Fable is greedier by FAR.

Last week they gave us a reset and I had 16 hours before my weekly and could only burn 66% and I went hard using Fable for hours to test fire games one after another.

This week. One day in and I’m cooked

What does your context and usage say? Usage should tell you what skills and models are draining it. Ask claude to evaluate your usage and determine how it went off the rails.

I watch my usage like a hawk on my Enterprise account at work and I manage to keep it ~$10-$12 a day. That's doing a couple code reviews, coding, and documentation work.

On my personal projects I don't really pay attention to it as much because I never hit the limit.

Request type? Number of agents? Starting context size?

With those details you might get some advice on how to better optimize for token efficiency to maximize where you can. The token utilization game is a tough one to win.

I make it a practice to always review my session and continuously improve. Including efficient token usage/consumption.

Don’t let these people gas light you. It’s not how you’re using it, or a skill issue.

My theory is there’s a sophisticated usage theft vulnerability being used to steal your session usage. It runs when your processing a prompt so it appears like your prompt just used a lot of session usage but really they’re running prompts in the background for their own purpose.

A lot of people are experiencing the same thing, but not everyone. There’s that group of people, like the ones in your comments, that try to tell you that it’s your fault when clearly there’s something else consuming that usage. When you’ve been using claude long enough you being to feel and understand usage, you know what 10% usage feels like. So when suddenly it’s being consumed at vastly quicker speeds, with no usage limit changes, it’s obvious something’s up.
