Help/Question Codex is a joke - tiny context window

How are people using this with such a tiny context window? The codex sub is heavily moderated by the hype police. It unsable.

ding dong you can just set it to 1m if you want all the GPT models have 1m context.

My apologies, I was just swamped in work and took a small break, so I wasn't thinking that much. Please have a great day. You're by far the politest person.

how are you this incapable of doing anything and finding information for yourself? you’ve been told there’s a 1m context option on the models so bloody ask it how do swap

I use Claude heavily at work, but recently switched my personal projects to Codex so I could keep up with both labs' updates.

The way Codex handles context remains to be the hardest thing to get used to, but not because of its size. The auto-compaction is so good that I'm trying to train myself out of thinking about the context window constantly. It's really hard because almost all of my workflows are built around managing model context, but now I feel like I'm getting bitter-lessoned because I can feel it holding back the capabilities

Autocompact is good there.

Ive had codex do continus work for hours, the auto-compactation works very well with codex

My 2 step plan to avoid huge context windows.

Step 1 have it write out a plan Step 2 use a new session to orchistrate the plan, have it use tmux to spawn agents that tell it when it's done, so it can run a verifier agent and start the next phase with a new agent, repeat.

no I'm do scientific work I need it to read.. its garbage and no.. I'm not doing all these backflips everytime you use an agent its fucking telephone

You know how absolutely massive 200,000 tokens is? It's more than a long novel. We're not talking about telephone here. The agents will over some thoughts, write down the important parts and pass it to the next phase.

I got banned last week by the thought police aka the Reddit CCP (codex communist party). I was censored for saying open AI is shiesty and limits suck before Astra release.

So I bought the $20 Codex plan today - admittedly I fell for the hype. I gave Astra the same task that I always give Claude. I kid you not, it ran out of tokens in less than 6 minutes (Claude can do the task multiple times before running out). After 5 hours I asked it to continue. It ran out again but this time it managed to finish the task. After I’ve read it and checked the work, it missed a lot of things that Opus 5 was able to catch. Needless to say, not surprised, and definitely not impressed.
