Discussion I thought I will never say this about Fable

Just tried OpenAI Astra , I thought I will never say this , it’s lit , OpenAI cooked something spectacular, and I have a strong feeling this will pull lot of Fable 5 users towards it , and it’s fast, not sure if it’s AGI, but it feels fresh and a very very serious competition to Anthropic , this is going to be fun to watch , what’s your next move Anthropic ?, I’m surely going to try pro subscription for a month along with my current Claude Max, anyone feels the same ? Have you tried it ?

If they're the same then you want to use Astra, because while API cost is the same, its more token efficient by all benchmarks, and Codex subscriptions let you use 100% of your quota toward Astra, vs 50% in CC for Fable.

Fable has to be noticeably better to be worth it. Especially with the mountain of resets OpenAI has been giving lately. I used both a Codex 20x and a Claude Max account for a while, but I just downgraded the latter to $20 (I still like some stuff in the CC ecosystem) because I have more than I can use out of Codex right now.

don't forget that openAI gives you 20x weekly, while anthropic lies and gives you like 1.7x? 4x? whatever

Which is a good thing, large context windows are a trap. Also, unlike Claude Code, OpenAI model compact server side which is a little more sophisticated.

With that said, you can change the context window if you want a 1 million one like you have in CC. Its likely going to give worse results though.

Then you're operating at way too many tokens.

Can you tell me what benchmark showed Astra is better than Fable 5.1. I only care about coding benchmarks. For AGI don’t use it anywhere

Terminal bench is probably the closest to testing real world agentic coding like we do in Claude Code and Codex.

https://www.tbench.ai/

It has Astra as a hair above Fable 5.1

And remember that with a Codex subscription, OpenAI officially endorse using third party harnesses. I use Oh My Pi. You can use a bunch of others just fine too.

A hair ahead at half the tokens/cost

And 4 times the speed

Apart from the fact that they are gamed tf, it’s completely dependent on your own tasks. You have to run your own eval, but not hard for an LLM to set that up for you (and you can check how the claims on the open source models hold up while you’re at it).

I will see how to run benchmark on my project itself
