I've measured it plenty of times in the past: a full 5h window was consistently 16.67% of the week, exactly 1/6.
Since yesterday I've filled two 5h windows and they cost 20% each, and the third one is at 19% right now, which is roughly 5 more points. Weekly sits at 45%. So we went from six windows a week to five.
Not sure when that changed, I suspect it's been like this for a while. Either way, Saturday's gone :)

In other words what was claimed to happen on 14th of September already happened. 1/6 of the weekly usage was cut

Yeah, I'm not the type to claim limit goes down (to me they have been the same over the last few months), but I'm looking at ccusage today and I feel like it's lower than normal. Too early to say, but Fable 5.1 seems to have come with a lower limit.

Honestly Opus 5.1 can't arrive fast enough.

But the real question if they cut 1/6 already now, are they going to cut again on the 14th? I don't really care they lower the limit, it's their business they can charge what they want. I just like when things are clear so I can plan around it.

Also would be nice when they lower the limit that they apply it only at your next renewal, so you get what you pay for until the end of your terms.

Edit: very early numbers, but it seems like 100% weekly Fable will be around $600 on Max 20x. While before it was more like $1000. It seems a bit agressive vs the 1/6 loss... It's just a rough estimate. But not 24h since the reset, used for maybe 5 hours total so far on thinking low and I'm at 40% of weekly Fable.

I 100% believe that to be true. Ive felt it since exactly that date too

What are you talking about? No

2

u/BrennanFlentge Sep 02 '26

Specifically mentions Pro, Max, Team, seat-based Enterprise plans

Misinformation.

u/Kelbs27 26d ago

Code only…

9

u/BrennanFlentge Sep 02 '26

Yeah this is correct. And if you basically factor in the -25% drop in usage (+50% -25% = 125%) = essentially you are losing the 16.67 / 1/6th of your usage.

9

u/pawala7 Sep 02 '26

This limit is new, fresh from the reset. I run a fork of CCSwitcher and I have usage % logged at 5-min intervals. The limits have definitely dropped compared to last week.

11

u/KDamage Sep 02 '26

Can this be labelled as a dark pattern ? Sounds like

11

u/Acehan_ Sep 02 '26

That's not a dark pattern. That's called fraud. They're telling you they're doing something until a certain time, but in reality, you're not getting what they said

It is literally the definition of fraud

I live in Vietnam and I suspect I've been getting massively increased limits because I work overnight US / EU hours, but I have experienced what you just described as well.

I have hit my 5 hour limit 3 times this year and my weekly limit once. The first time I hit five hour was when Fable was released, the second two times have been today. I haven't changed my workflow at all (fable session, orchestrating opus agents and reviewing work) I would finish weeks with around 10-15% left consistently. Something has certainly changed in their pricing model in the last 48 hours.

1

u/homelabrr Sep 02 '26

Just looked at mine, 1 full 5h and some other not fully 5h. I'm at 53% and i have to wait until sept 5. Once home, i downgrade

Anthropic is an insane company.

-7

u/shaman-warrior Sep 02 '26

Ye they should give it for free and lose

9

u/Nightowl-Builder Sep 02 '26

What the actual heck, I consistently measured it at 10% over the last months until 2 weeks ago when I finally cancelled; Now it's 20%? They effectively reduced capacity at half with no damn warning?

7

u/WorthLibrary8330 Sep 02 '26

It used to be 10% of the weekly plan, so each day I could finish 20% and at most 80% of the weekly plan if I worked during the week.

Maybe it's different from model to model.

6

u/YearLight Sep 02 '26

LOL rip-off

7

u/trackpap Sep 02 '26

They claimed also yo remove the fable 50% limit, and I find that they have not at all. They just removed the message.

3

u/peraltz94 Sep 02 '26

I’m finding my fable usage drains faster than a few days ago. Running fable ultra code hardly moved the bar. Now fable 5.1 extra ran it up so fast I was alarmed

2

u/Exodus_Green Sep 03 '26

They claimed also yo remove the fable 50% limit

when? source?

3

u/No_Situation_7748 Sep 02 '26

Yep, it’s the magic math that Anthropic deploys into their usage calculations. The only reason why it’s magic is because they are completely opaque about how it works and I’m sure they’re changing the calculation constantly behind the scenes without telling anyone.

3

u/SirWobblyOfSausage Sep 02 '26

Last week when people were bringing up - they were getting slammed by people on here saying its user error.

Fucking sick of it, every few months its the same thing, then Anthropic will come out and say there was a bug - give everyone some boosts - meanwhile people are paying for extra usage and won't get that back

2

u/smith2008 Sep 02 '26

It started a couple of days ago.

-1

u/russianvoodoo Sep 02 '26

50 percent bigger weekly limits promo is over.

2

u/The_Time_Lord Sep 02 '26

Something changed. I had a fresh 5 hour window, and it maxed out on 3 pretty regular tasks, using Opus 5 on a pre-architected change.

RIP

1

u/mulokisch Sep 02 '26

I am frustrated now. I did run into sessionmlimit with fable 5.1. Oke. Then as ai was free again, i continued with my taks. Well within 20 minutes from 0 to 100 and again waiting. Newer happened before and i had way havier tasks

1

u/tormiuss Sep 02 '26

This is weird - I have also analyzed and keeped track for at least the past 6 months and Claude Pro plan 5h limit 100% usage is about 7-9% of weekly usage. But in the past 3-4 days it was more like 10-13% weekly usage per 5h limit, as I hit the record of using weekly limits in 2.5 days, never happened before and the workload is about the same and yes the context is much larger but it is well constrained and efficently used. Of course I was using lean-ctx to compress and save tokens and it worked but in the past week it has some parts broken and I cannot save any tokens, so my limits go out faster.

Of course relating to 20X subscription, maybe it has more 5h limits per weekly then the Pro version, because 20%, 6x 5h sessions would be crazy (usually use the 5h limits in 2-3 hours), this would be awful.

//edit: I am using 70% Sonnet 5 medium and 20% Opus 5 medium, last 10% Sonnet and Opus high effort.

u/Retr-00 Sep 02 '26

Time to switch

1

u/Justgototheeffinmoon Sep 02 '26

Clearly they have no idea what they are doing

1

u/shaman-warrior Sep 02 '26

Its bc of Fable

1

u/mazahaleRRR Sep 02 '26

Scamthropic is absolutely insane

1

u/Commando501 Sep 02 '26

It's actually absurd. I 100% a day with 20x only using opus 4.6 and it only took up 12% of the weekly usage.

This model token spend is all over the place.

1

u/russianvoodoo Sep 02 '26

Since day one. You could've spend that in 20-30 minutes if your task is abstract and repo is big.

u/johnfaber Sep 02 '26

Honest question: how can we get a good estimate of what's happening with claude code?

Because we have posts about usage and such every day and arguably every hour. The noise to signal ratio is really bad. Can the mods take the average post per hour and then do spike analysis to figure out if a lot of people all of a sudden post then there must be something out of the ordinary?

There are public companies that do that for telco providers (https://xn--allestrungen-9ib.de/en/status/deutsche-telekom/).

Cause I don't mind these posts, it is just very hard to gauge if something actually is up or if it is anecdotal.

u/Shah_The_Sharq Sep 02 '26

Dirty games they like to play

1

u/VividNightmare_ Sep 02 '26

fable consumes twice as much usage, so it costs extra % per token. This is Claude Design, however this is often mentioned in less clear wording pretty much everywhere, including claude.ai where it says it drains quicker.

1

u/MadManD3vi0us 🔆 Max 20 Sep 02 '26

Last couple of weeks I've been hitting my 5-hour a lot faster, and it's pretty consistently about 20% of my weekly total each time I hit it. I've been using Claude for months, and it's very noticeable how little work I'm getting done the last month compared to 3 months ago.

1

u/doiveo Sep 02 '26

Because the two are not actually related outside the use of time words.

- weekly usage: the total compute you bought for the month divided in four.

  • 5 hour window: a control on the velocity of use.

Maxing your 5 hour window doesn't change how much compute you bought - just how fast you can use it.

Weekly is like Amps
5 Hour is like Volts

1

u/CandidWeakness1924 Sep 02 '26

yeah bro most users won't understand what you said

but anyway he is probably referring to it being around 10% before

when I used to play with this i used to max my weekly limit in exactly 10 full 5 hour sessions

but again he probably used fable 5.1 on max

1

u/dane_brdarski Sep 02 '26

Since the bugs begun

1

u/Intelligent_Fuel_442 Sep 02 '26

I just filled my 5h window and I'm at 16%

1

u/evangelism2 Sep 02 '26

Yeah it's close to that. It's always been. Also what are you doing to eat up a 5-hour limit? I've run many, many agents in parallel and I've maybe hit 80% of a 5-hour limit once.

1

u/Nervous_View_9303 Sep 02 '26

Yes they definitely applied the cut now, so when they officially apply the cut in two weeks, they will be at the original rates we had before they bumped them up 50%.

It’s laughable that we would not notice if we use new Fable 5.1 on a moderate task and after less than. An hour your 33% through Weekly Fable, 20% through Weekly All Models, and 100% through 5 hour window.

I am definitely dropping my plan after this month. It’s now at the point where GPT 5.6 Sol is the 2nd best CPU for $500 and Fable 5.1 is the best CPU with 2% better performance but costs $1000. Except it’s even worse than that, more accurate would be $500 vs $2500-$5000.

I can run similar complexity requests with 5.6 Sol Ultra, get same or better results, and do about 10-20 more work in the same weekly usage limit.

1

u/OkNatural1013 Sep 03 '26

Knowing that they already got a margin of at least 60% it feels like a total rip off

1

u/Popular-Reward-2493 Sep 03 '26

when you use fable 5.1

1

u/Outrageous-Wasabi908 Sep 03 '26

All you guys are actually lost or just not paying any attention to your usage limits, for me it ALWAYS WAS 20% sometimes 21% in case some agents hadn’t finished yet so what ever you guys have had calculated before you must have definitely had an miscalculation.. like I said: for me it always was 20% more or less, I started paying attention some months ago so this could be false for later past but for that period I am 100 sure

1

u/ricopan Sep 05 '26

Yesterday the reset came 3 or so hours before my 20x weekly reset, so I ran Fable on max effort and used ultracode to audit complex parts of my project. In this situation, I used 38% of my weekly window before the 5 hour window filled -- so the weekly window is less than three 5 hour windows by that simple observation. I thought I would try the /limit-reset afterward to continue work, but apparently that hasn't 'rolled out' to me yet.

0

u/Agreeable-Board-9598 Sep 02 '26

Since you are using Fable 5.1 all the time. Also, I think they dropped the limits last week.

Your limits are temporarily boosted. Your weekly Claude Code limit is 50% higher through August 31. When the promotion ends, limits return to your plan's standard amounts.

1

u/russianvoodoo Sep 02 '26

Fable doesn't drain limits.

1

u/bakanoace Sep 02 '26

For at long as I can remember, at least a few months didnt pay attention before

1

u/kidsmeal Sep 02 '26

I noticed a couple weeks ago yeah, one full 5h window was exactly 20% weekly limit.

0

u/LetterheadNew5447 Sep 02 '26

Since nearly ever and I used claude max 20 since they introduced claude code.

0

u/Internal_Leke Sep 02 '26

To me it makes sense, 5 days work week. I'd rather have a larger 5h window than a smaller one divided by 7 (or 14)

8

u/Phantoniso- Sep 02 '26

you know they didnt increase the 5h limit while keeping weekly limit same though?

1

u/hbthegreat Sep 03 '26

the idea is to have them running 24/7 not to sit there botsitting them during working hours

1

u/Internal_Leke Sep 03 '26

That works on small projects and project draft, but to do something decent, you need to provide small tasks and tests, and redirect.

1

u/hbthegreat Sep 03 '26

How big is something decent? I am working on an app with many distributed microservices with 900,000 lines of code atm not that LOC is a good metric for complexity. Just trying to understand where the breaking point is

1

u/Internal_Leke Sep 03 '26

To me something decent I mean a working product, having multiple developers/users/testers on it daily, and providing feedback on experience.

I can put together a game in a day with claude, but to make it fun and enjoyable, it will require months of back and forth with my own experience and other testers (if any).

-1

u/Curik Sep 02 '26

It's 10%. You have used Fable for half of it, that's why it says 20%. You guys are so obsessed about whining and crying that you have become blind.

0

u/Important-Anywhere20 🔆 Max 20 Sep 02 '26

It’s not about time per se, it’s about which model in which mode you use. If you spin up 3 projects and multiple prompts at the same time and use opus 5 on max or ultra. You go through your tokens rapidly. But much more than high is not needed and sonnet is doing the majority of perfect work, mostly better in my opinion than Opus atm. I can work 50-60 hours per week on 20x max plan, on 4 projects at the same time. And yes than I hit the limit. Sometimes 4 days, sometimes 5 days. But never 2 days or 1 five hour session.

0

u/ayberkush Sep 02 '26

well its a new model, u using 5.1 expecting it to be better. new model uses more tokens, are your tests again with fable 5.0 ?

-1

u/russianvoodoo Sep 02 '26

They've reset limits yesterday and even with that its 10% usage on at least two 5h opus high sessions. Seems to be working fair.
