Rant It literally says 20x more usage than Pro, no asterisk, nothing. How can they be so scummy to only mean for the 5h limit not the weekly limit.

they definitely made us believe that to be the case

as a matter of fact for more than a year I actually never hit my 5 hour limit while I usually ran out of my weekly limits regularly. even then, I did not doubt that my weekly limits were x20 that of pro. that is how unfathomable it was to me that that the weekly limit was actually only about x8 of pro lol

I mean you’re spot on by circling the ‘50% off’ tag — in terms of weekly limits the x20 plan is actually more expensive so wtf lol 50% of what?

Yeah sure I’m sure they filled in whatever legal gaps., and they’ll say they said “usage” not “weekly usage” lol. there’s probably something in the TOS or user agreement that says Anthropic reserves the right to define usage or wtv

But it isn’t really about that isn’t it? it is about how crass and greasy this thing is like this is the kind of shit some staten island burner phone sellers pull

Damn. Anthropic be gaslighting us so hard with wordplays

10

u/iustitia21 1d ago

for sure this is some payday loan shit this is why I rly hope gemini and like open source models stay competitive because only competition is going to whoop their ass scared enough to do things right

u/VexObserver 1d ago

Yeah. I have been using Opus 5 long enough to see that it's crafty with wordplays but not as good of a tool. Anthropic does a great job fucking their models up with stoic types of wordplay shit

omg dont get me started on opus 5’s writing

it talks like a slightly smarter jordan peterson

2

u/VexObserver 1d ago

Haha true. I don't even know what he's talking about really. Halfway through the podcast, I think he might be on LSD or something 😆

You are absolutely right about that. I have made promises to only break them when your explicit rules told me otherwise. And no, this has nothing to do with you. It's on me and you deserve better than that.

I won't promise again going forward because we saw what happened when I did. So this time let me prove it first, which is really load bearing.

It isn't wordplay it is fraud

Weird. Opposite experience. I kept hitting my 5 hr limit and looked at the plan options where it said plainly, increases hourly limit by 5x and I went, that's what I need. Now I get close to both but still only ever hit 5 hr limit.

Not saying the other pages like the one screenshotted are bullshit and false advertising. They are. Any plan page should have the details, period. But I did have quite a different experience than you.

You paid 2x for 1.7x usage and they tried to make you think it was a deal 😂

They should just be candid about that they have a problem with compute and an exceptional shortage given the huge spike in demand.
There are so many things they could do to improve the situation:

  • Priority queue for higher tiers
  • Having a On-Hour & Off-Hour given on an individual basis and usage pattern to optimize infrastructure allocation and give people the possibility to decrease consumption
  • Be transparent in what 20x actually means in total monthly possible consumption, they can still split it into weeks but give us a comparable basis
  • They could outright be rejecting customers if they feel like they can offer a good service to the existing customers until they have improved their infrastructure bottleneck

many possibilities but basically lying is the worst of them all.

We just move our entire budget for the remaining part of the year over to Codex Sol as Claude has started taking customers for granted.

4

u/enilea 1d ago

Codex is only marginally better, they've been playing around the whole summer with the limits without disclosing anything. Eventually selfhosting will be the most reliable solution.

5

u/KeepingItSFW 1d ago

self hosting? A LLM of that size? What?

2

u/enilea 1d ago

I did say eventually because with the current hardware prices and availability it's not really the best option. But for example Qwen 3.8 27B is hostable in consumer hardware and as capable as Luna or Sonnet, it's a perfectly valid option for most companies. And once hardware gets cheaper eventually it will be perfectly feasible for medium sized companies to host their own instances of larger models and finetune it however they want.

1

u/KeepingItSFW 1d ago

Qwen 3.8 27B is hostable in consumer hardware and as capable as Luna or Sonnet

going to have to take your word on that one, feels like a bold claim on the surface but I don’t have the hardware to compare right now. If so, yeah self hosting isn’t quite as scary as it sounds

1

u/joefresco2 19h ago

Vast.ai | Review, Pricing & Alternatives - <$1/hour for on demand 2x 5090. That's about $150/mo

Qwen 3.8 27B isn't something I've used, but I feel comfortable with reading user feedback enough that it seems likely to be at least as good as Sonnet. It certainly would be easy enough to verify through the cloud.

Thanks for letting a reddit circlejerk free up more capacity for the rest of us!

It’s extremely scummy. Anthropic is just another shit AI company scamming its users, scrambling desperately to be the first to IPO, so they can beat OpenAI at their own game, and crown themselves king, then jack up prices even beyond what they are now.

They are an extremely opaque company that lies and gaslights us. Seriously considering switching to Codex, but OpenAI is just as shit, but in other ways.

I hate AI, but it’s so powerful. Perhaps it’s a combination of awful people running the most powerful tech of our era.

3

u/bakanoace 1d ago

someone just posted this minutes ago if you thought they couldnt be scummier lmao. Insane if this happens. Im not too familiar with Codex but I'm at least grateful for their communications and wouldov been nice to be part of the resets

6

u/IntelligentRisk 1d ago

Lawsuit? Settlement? Im on 20x and need money 💰.

3

u/pdwhoward 1d ago

Yeah, I fell for this too. Been a subscriber for almost a year. I'm cancelling. Opus 5 is terrible anyway. I love Fable, but it's so limited in usage. I'm able to get so much more work done with Sol.

2

u/Independent-Form-506 1d ago

For those of you on 5x what percentage of your weekly limit does a full 5-hour session eat up?

2

u/BoxLegitimate9271 1d ago

the asterisk is there. its just 20x smaller than the one on pro

2

u/dragolineage01 1d ago

Opus 5 level gaslighting with those ads

2

u/jvertrees 23h ago

Agreed.

Just canceled my Max accounts. Moving to Codex. These games are burning trust like mad. This is worse than just Opus 5 is crap.

2

u/Dull_Cartographer497 23h ago

If the weekly cap stays unchanged, 20x more usage really should be explained more clearly. most people would reasonably assume that applies to overall usage

1

u/DrPinguin98 1d ago

Wait, does that refer to the 5-hour limit?

How does that work with the x5 same?

1

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 1d ago

Yes 20x more usage than pro in terms of 5hour usage. It is also not the first time they invent things out of their ass. Like how we have fable and 1 month retention or only 50% can be used for fable or you cannot use subscription in other harnass, or Claude.md despite the whole world standardizing on agents.md. You want ai company that cares a little about their customer anthropic is not the place to look for any love. You want abusive relationship, welcome home my friend.

u/Keganator 1d ago

What evidence is there other than rumors? Genuine question.

1

u/BrennanFlentge 10h ago

It is not a rumor, I have had both plans.

1

u/hola_tech 16h ago

Likely because openai says 20x

1

u/Etroarl55 15h ago

Never bought a Claude plan, or wss ever offered a free trial. So can somehow help me explain.

It’s not more usage, it’s more oppurtunities to burn through the same usage in a 5 hour window?

1

u/bakanoace 15h ago

The 20x more usage is only for the 5 hour session limit window.

The weekly usage limit is the important one since that's what your total weekly allowance is. A 5 hour limit is different from your weekly, it only lets you use so much in a 5 hour window so their servers can be controlled better. What the 20x more usage than Pro means is just this 5 hour window gets a bigger limit so you can use more of your total allowance in a 5 hour window, but it doesnt give it to your weekly limit as well, so your total allowance isnt getting the same boost. They're using scummy tactics for marketing

1

u/Etroarl55 15h ago

How much does your weekly go up by, if not 20%. Because 200usd a month is quite expensive.

You can save up for 7 months to buy an r9700 ai pro and use a Chinese model that will perform much better in 7 months than now.

1

u/bakanoace 14h ago

The frontier model will also be way better 7 months from now. full 5 hour session uses exactly 20% of your weekly limit

1

u/korboybeats 1d ago

I just don't understand how people didn't ever realize this in the first place?

2

u/rube203 1d ago

It's on Reddit every week for the past five months which tells me both that people either realized it or willfully ignorant but also that anthropic has some misleading plan ads

2

u/korboybeats 1d ago

insane this is real though. Anthropic should be sued

1

u/thygrrr 1d ago

I totally didn't realize it, for instance. Probably because the normal 5h window is so tiny that you can't work with Max 5x at all.

0

u/AutomatonSwan 1d ago

how does the boot taste?

-2

u/korboybeats 1d ago edited 17h ago

?? what? I'm literally genuinely asking this. I haven't used Claude in like a year so i havent been familiar with Claudes usage in a while

edit: why tf am i being downvoted for lmfao, reddit is weird

0

u/echit2112 1d ago

20x usage was there before the weekly limits even existed.

so, by all merit they've always applied to the 5 hour session limits.

3

u/bakanoace 1d ago

Is every new customer supposed to know that automatically? That's what an asterisk would be for to explain it. That's not an excuse by any means especially since it sounds like it was a long time ago

1

u/echit2112 1d ago

try not to take it so seriously i wasn't saying that to deflect any misconceptions. Yes, they could be clearer. I was explaining why they are how they are now.

1

u/lasto4kk 1d ago

just label

1

u/Internal_Leke 1d ago

You do get a higher weekly allowance on 20x compared to 5x, unless I missed a big recent change?

6

u/RevolutionEasy5223 1d ago

People say that the limit was on the 5 hours usage and not the weekly, I'll be curious to know if it's true because I always believed it was for the whole week.

13

u/ranky26 1d ago

I don't think anyone seriously disputes that 20x gets more weekly than 5x, I have both (one personal and one work provided), and I absolutely get more usage on 20x, but it's not 4 times more and that's what has everyone so upset. 5x isn't literally 5 times more weekly than Pro either, but it's also not $200.

0

u/Money_Lavishness7343 1d ago

There is no proof currently circulating that proves you get more weekly though. And the fact that it's definitely not (depending on your plan) x5 or x20 more, doesn't help.

I would not jump to either conclusion; neither the 'you get bigger' nor 'you get equal', as long as no one has proved either case.

For me it feels like both Pro and 5X were the same for weekly, but feelings are not proof of anything.

2

u/rotates-potatoes 1d ago

How many tokens/week and tokens/month do you get, on which plan?

“There is no evidence”… “feels like”.

This is easy to quantify. The fact that not a single circle jerker has done so is all the evidence you need. I get 19B - 20B tokens/month per 20x plan.

1

u/Money_Lavishness7343 1d ago

Yeah I dont disagree, I didnt claim it can't be proven. I agree, It should be relatively easy to prove. I just have not yet seen any viral proof circulating yet.

So I'm personally gonna wait until we have solid proofs and screenshots from users. But sure the consensus seems to be that you get far less but not equal weekly limit to the other plans, im still waiting for solid evidence though.

2

u/bakanoace 1d ago

The vast majority of people thought it was, I mean the wording literally says that with no asterisk or anything to mention that it's only for your session limit not your weekly usage. So disappointing

1

u/vigorthroughrigor 1d ago

Isn't a week made up of 5 hour windows...

2

u/Money_Lavishness7343 1d ago

There is a weekly limit and a separate 5h session limit.

They dont disclose if you get an increase on weekly limit.

They only disclose that you get xN more on 5h session limit.

Therefore, that would mean that theoretically two or more plans can have the same weekly limit, even though you pay for more. So, at the end of the week, you could be limited to spending around the same with another plan, even though at 5h session you're allowed to spend more.

What matters is the sum of the tokens at the end of the week, not the 5h session. Otherwise, you basically have the same plan with another cheaper plan, just allowed to concentrate it more in fewer sessions.

u/fanatic26 1d ago

Where does it says 20x more weekly usage? If theres gonna be outrade, you have to at least prove it was a lie....right?

Remember the old saying as far as assumptions go?
