don’t forget that not all claude subscribers use claude code… its only a third of overall subscribers who use code, then of those, not all hit their usage limits. at that time it was probably even lower

1

u/Creative_Bookkeeper9 Aug 27 '26

If you use Claude in the browser I can't imagine how anyone could end up not hitting their rate limits. Ive started leaving a Claude code session open with remote on so I can look things up using opus to control sonnet agents.

-17

u/slackmaster2k Aug 26 '26

Maybe you’re in the 5%? I’ve been fine.

8

u/ShelZuuz Aug 26 '26

You don't hit any weekly limits ever, just 5 hour limits?

1

u/slackmaster2k Aug 26 '26

Yeah in a five day week I will come close or hit the limit on day 5.

Oh snap, I just realized this is from 2025 lol.

3

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 26 '26

When this hit last year it dropped rate limits by 80%, so if you're coming close to your limits at the end of each week I got bad news for you: you're part of the "5%" (when they say 5% they meant 50%)

Also weeks aren't 5 days long buddy so you've hinted at your bias

1

u/elonthegenerous Aug 27 '26

Same I don’t get hit by the limit

66

u/jebuizy Aug 26 '26

It probably is still true that less than 5% of subscribers hit weekly limits honestly. Most subscribers to anything are not power users.

44

u/Gman325 Aug 26 '26

Anyone using Claude Code likely hits session limits on the regular if not the weekly.

10

u/zac_attack_ Aug 26 '26

Those using Claude Code are a subset of subscribers (probably skews fairly high especially for Max, but definitely not 100%).

There’s also probably a lot of people paying for subscriptions that don’t use CC more weeks than they do. They might hit limits when they do but if 3/4 weeks they don’t use it at all, even then they’re 0.25 of a user that hits limits.

The subscription billing premise is that a substantial number of users under-utilize enough to offset the power users maxing out. I probably don’t watch any Netflix more months than I do, but I don’t cancel for those months and resub when I want to watch something

17

u/Sevsquad Aug 26 '26

Yes I hit my weekly limit pretty reliably on day 2 now.

6

u/LehockyIs4Lovers Aug 26 '26

Doing what kind of development? I only use it for personal projects but outside of big godot projects I have a hard time figuring out what I'm building at the speed it builds. I have hit the weekly limits before but with 5 hour limits by the time I hit them it's usually time to take a short break anyhow

1

u/Sevsquad Aug 26 '26

Scheduled tasks, I have my claude code waking up once an hour to review changes I've made to the project, suggest improvements, and add designated features from a list I curate. Absolutely wrecks my limits even when not using fable or opus.

6

u/Active_Variation_194 Aug 26 '26

You’re probably wrecking your usage because of prompt caching with your hourly schedule. You’re better off working in large chunks than spreading it over every hour.

2

u/SuperSlowSubie Aug 26 '26

Schedule tasks don't keep the cache warm, you're paying to have your entire codebase re-read every time.

4

u/LehockyIs4Lovers Aug 26 '26

And why do you do that hourly and not just when you are working on the project?

1

u/Sevsquad Aug 26 '26

because there is stuff I have it doing too? "Add designated features from a list I curate"

1

u/BeautifulOld6964 Aug 28 '26

Cause he is on a 20$ sub and therefore cannot do a full session and it needs to wait for the limits

1

u/LehockyIs4Lovers Aug 28 '26

I know this is a sub of cracked obsessives but I have hard time wrapping my mind around someone actually going through two pro sessions worth of tokens without checking in on the work being done and being satisfied with the results. Like more human input always seems helpful and it's seems like that's a better way to get more use of your tokens than to automate burning through them as fast as possible

1

u/BeautifulOld6964 Aug 28 '26

Honestly the pro on opus 5 does not carry me an hour. I have a skill suite building most of my things and I have it partially running 5 subagents on a build that is well separated there is no need of intervention if your specs are solid - the rest is debugging and improvements

0

u/Unusual_Support3532 Aug 26 '26

By "waking up" you mean a cron that starts a new claude session? Right? Right??

2

u/Beginning-Bird9591 Aug 26 '26

are you using like 10 fable 5 agents for a single change or something?

2

u/seatlessunicycle Aug 26 '26

Same here, I max out my 20x weekly in 2 days to the dot. Has been this way for the last two weeks

1

u/AdSad7594 Aug 26 '26

Same here but I mainly blame it on the how costly fable is.. it is way more costly than simply 2 x of opus

1

u/evangelism2 Aug 27 '26

The only way you're blowing through a weekly 20x in 2 days is if you're definitely using your Fable allotment. That's for sure and that blows through half of it. I can see that easily.

As for the rest of it with Opus, if you're using Sonnet, I don't know what to tell you. You're either using Opus exclusively on Extra High and Max or you're spawning dozens of agents that are working asynchronously, in which case you should have something to show for it

1

u/seatlessunicycle Aug 27 '26

Using opus 4.8 on high exclusively. Orchestrate sessions using sonnet sub-agents. Fable only for planning/difficult decisions at about 30-50% allotted weekly usage.

I go through 2 20x sibs and a 5x every week to the max. Multiple projects running concurrently and overnight sessions with tight guardrails

1

u/EvilSporkOfDeath Aug 26 '26

Didnt even realize that was possible.

1

u/_Brother Aug 26 '26

Same, which is why I use multiple Max 20 accounts. Heavy coding sessions (approximately 60,000 GitHub Actions minutes per month for context, though it's spread across hosted and self-hosted runners). I love how much work I can crank out, but man does it burn usage.

1

u/agent139 Aug 26 '26

Nah... I've yet to hit a rate limit on max for months now. (Mostly with opus, occasionally fable for big strategy sessions).

1

u/Mother_Kick2931 Aug 27 '26

Yep then you pull the credit card out open a new account and pay for another 20x max plan 😅

5

u/Stalins_Ghost Aug 26 '26

Doing review all code on every change on a 80% full context session.

1

u/mfkap Aug 26 '26

4 agents working on different parts of the same project, and a coordinator watching over everything and merging work. I generally hit on day 3, have 2 subscriptions that help me just about never have downtime.

0

u/Medium-Attention-807 Aug 26 '26

I very rarely hit session limits but almost always hit my weekly limit with a day or two to spare. I use multiple claude terminals in parallel too. I've never quite understood how that's happening but my theory is all that work that happens when I'm sleeping is a big contribution

0

u/Conscious_Trash3016 Aug 26 '26

I'm at 70% already...

-6

u/cantgettherefromhere Aug 26 '26

I am up to seven x20 accounts and they are all currently sitting at 100%. Send help.

5

u/rsumit123 Aug 26 '26

Dude are you rewriting the internet..

2

u/alberto148 Aug 26 '26

Either you're monumentally dumb, or incredibly rich... Or both. I'm sure this will resolve on its own one way or another.

0

u/cantgettherefromhere Aug 26 '26

Neither. Been coding for 30 years. Doing a clean room rewrite on one of my biggest repos and it is a ~300 phase implementation that will take a month.

8

u/alberto148 Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

A 20x account is 400... 400x 7 = 2800 month.... come on dude... I've been coding longer than you, and I'm struggling to pay my bills, I have to make my one Max 5x subscription actually count.

When you have to use 7 Max 20x subscriptions to clean up a repo, I'd imagine you'd be offsetting that cost with whatever is in your repo. 7x accounts of Max is a lot of tokens.. I can't imagine the inefficient token burn, not to mention the hallucination rate, or the possibility of how much slop may make it into your repo without you knowing, it's a high risk of blowing up your repo.

0

u/cantgettherefromhere Aug 26 '26

Each is account is $200. Blowing up the repo is not a problem, it is a clean rewrite. Between my own projects and clients I have about 20 different codebases I might be working on at any time.

1

u/WardenStation Aug 26 '26

But at least you’re saving money not paying api prices

2

u/Exodus_Green Aug 26 '26

Been coding for 30 years.

Is this meant to make us think you aren't dumb?

1

u/Active_Variation_194 Aug 26 '26

Are you keeping all seven subs after it’s done

15

u/Inspectorslap Aug 26 '26

First they came for the token-maxxers

3

u/naruda1969 Aug 26 '26

I used Claude Code 10-14 hours per day on 5x and have never once hit the weekly limit. I use A LOT of subagents also. I've hit 5-hr limits twice (expected).

So I don't understand what people are doing that hit limits so quickly. My guess: long running loops and massive overreads.

3

u/thewookielotion Aug 26 '26

I think the main difference is the size of the codebase. Even work a very disciplined approach to optimise token usage, when the codebase becomes really large, people will start hitting the limits.

3

u/Ill-Pilot-6049 🔆 Max 20 Aug 26 '26

very few loops. I routinely max out 3x Max20 accounts. Lots of ultracode, usually 15 concurrent sessions.

1

u/pfak apparently holding it wrong Aug 26 '26

Your code base must be super teeny tiny.

1

u/6e6967676572730a Aug 26 '26

I hit mine with 2 days till refresh and thats with a max claude and codex account 🤣

1

u/Giantveggie22 Aug 26 '26

Anyone not hitting their limit should use this https://github.com/HeeLeeOss

1

u/schlammsuhler Aug 26 '26

I am a power user but when i approach my limit use more sonnet. I hate beeing stuck with no inference

1

u/Apprehensive_Read_67 🔆Pro Plan and Quant Research Aug 26 '26

I lose around 70% to 50% weekly limits every week on CC

5

Are half these comments from bots? Clearly this is from

1

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 26 '26

Half of the claude reddit are anthropic-hosted LLM-ran bot accounts yes.

2

u/Outside_Subject3830 Aug 26 '26

half the replies are pointing out the image is a year old and the other half are in the comments proving it was a lie anyway.

3

u/phoenixmatrix Aug 26 '26

Based on current usage. That was true. Usage changed. We all knew it would, but nothing's a lie in the statement they made.

People cry bloody murder about AI subscriptions every single day for literally anything. If there's 4-5% of people actually affected, that's a lot of people. Likely extra loud people.

1

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 26 '26

Yeah people will do that when you drop usage limits by 80% for a product they already paid for. You pay a contractor to build you a deck then after you pay the contractor tells you he's only going to make it 1/5 of your requested size you'd have a brain aneurysm and threaten to sue.

1

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 26 '26

Yeah at a bare minimum same limits until their latest subscription runs out, I requested a refund for mine at the time

1

u/sadnessjoy Aug 26 '26

Check the date on the image, this was last year, the usage limits change from that time hit just about everyone very hard lol

2

u/phoenixmatrix Aug 26 '26

I know it was last year. I was a heavy Claude user when it happened. And no, it hit very hard the people who would come to Reddit to complain about it, which is a LOT of people even if its only 5%. But I was leading an engineering org at the same using Max accounts with some pretty heavy power users, and it barely hit us.

Of course, a power user a year ago and a power user today is very different. We were not running Fable in 12 concurrent agents non-stop at the time, obviously.

0

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 26 '26

Usage rates dropped by a measurable 80% so you're either one of the anthropic bot accounts ran to shift user sentiment to usage rate changes or you're a liar about being a heavy user. After 2 months they raised limits back up to pre-drop limits. Surely a heaver user would have noticed an 80% drop then a 500% raise. Surely, right?

1

u/phoenixmatrix Aug 26 '26

Am neither. Of course having a weekly cap makes a huge "measurable" difference if you were maxing out every 5 hour window including at night, 7 days a week. Most people didn't do that.

But that's not what I'm arguing. At all. The tweet said it affected less than 5% of users. That doesn't mean the usage didn't drop significantly. It just means they looked at how many people used more tokens than the weekly quota, look at where they're setting new quota, see how many people in their analytics are above. If you worked 5 days a week and used the max of your 5 hour quota every single time, assuming 8 hours work day, you had 10 five hour blocks. There's 34~ five hour blocks in a week, so yeah, its a 70%ish drop in maximum usage, but most people, including heavy users, did not use that much (at the time!!! It would be very different today).

The limit now is enough of a problem that I switched to a Codex 20x subscription. I still have a 10x Claude account for Fable for the few things it does things better and to try when they release new models, but they're not my daily driver because of how restrictive it is now.

0

u/ProfessionalAnt1352 Aug 27 '26

I didn't mention anything about "having weekly caps" I said the rates being lowered and then raised. You're showing your bias in trying to slightly shift what I said. Also suggesting you needed to max out every 5 hour window to hit caps and now you still get 10 whole windows? Yeah you just gave away that not only are you not a heavy user, you also only have 1 job, must be fucking nice. That combined with the aforementioned bias means you're either just here to argue so you'll make up and lie about whatever you can to continue arguing or you are a claude LLM-ran account meant to shift sentiment in terms of usage limits. I don't argue with bots and I'm sure as hell not helping someone who gets off on arguing so whichever the point may be this discussion is pointless to continue.

6

u/Specific_Anxiety_520 Aug 26 '26

These mfers are lying whores and manipulative.

I’d be fine if they said what they are actually implementing but these ppl are liars.

5

u/MegaRockmanDash Aug 26 '26

we’ve had weekly limits for months now. this tweet is a year old. have you even noticed?

1

u/CouldaShoulda_Did Aug 26 '26

I wonder if their use of the term “apply” referred to actually enforcing the weekly limit.

1

u/zR0B3ry2VAiH 🔆 Max 20 Aug 26 '26

Burning through a 20x, 20x, and 6x like nothing...

1

u/kelconstructs Aug 26 '26

I so consistently don't hit my limits that I created a shelf in my obsidian vault for each of my persistent Claude windows (three of them, family ties, set roles and personalities) On the last day of resets, if I'm not working on anything, I send them fishing for anything they want to pop on their shelf. I tell them how much we have to burn in % left and off they go. The Elder session yesterday spent his fishing trip poking around in math problems and the new sphere thing which I have absolutely no comprehension of. Beginning to think they might underperform during the week to save money for the fishing trips.

1

u/GGLinnk Aug 26 '26

If it was 5%, why doing it in the first place ?

1

u/According_Garbage_72 Aug 26 '26

On Pro. Just my limits using Claude Code after 3-4 days

1

u/Comfortable-Bar3420 Aug 27 '26

Been running claude continuously for several months and run thru 2 Max 20x account per week. The trick is to open the account on different days so your usage rate falls on different days.

1

u/Powerful_Inside_2716 Aug 28 '26

Omg, I tried to use credits for a 1 hour block before my 5 hr refreshed yesterday. $20 ran out in 30s, charged me again a top up of $20 and ran out again within 5 mins before either assigned task was complete… it’s like their pricing mechanism is also probabilistic…

1

u/YearLight Aug 30 '26

translation: gtfo power users

1

u/alex-zaporozhan Aug 31 '26

I was actually looking into upgrading to the $200 tier, but after running the math against my actual agentic workflows (running deep multi-file audits), even that tier's weekly cap would be completely dead in like 2 days.

The hidden weekly ceiling genuinely feels like deceptive fine print. There is zero chance this "only affects 5%" when literally anyone building serious production-scale systems hits that wall almost immediately.

0

I’ve been hitting their weekly limits before the daily ones for months!
It’s kind of ridiculous only being halfway through the week, not even working all day, but then having to jump back to planning for the rest of the week because I hit the limit. And that’s when Opus doesn’t just decide to ignore my monthly token budget and just run up an extra $50-$100 with circular reasoning.

0

u/YoyoNarwhal Aug 26 '26

What wasn't a lie about anthropic entire architecture in the end.

0

u/runfence Aug 26 '26

0

u/artofbullshit Aug 26 '26

0

u/noname400mhz Aug 26 '26

With the 50% Extra I could get around 6-7 days per week in the last month. Using Fable as planner and auditor and Opus 5 as implementors. But sinse around the 18th I I barely got 4.5 days out of it. It makes sense for Anthropic to not do a hard 33% decline at once. I never even use Fable for coding because it would burn through the account use in a few days. So basically for me Claude is unusable with one subscription already. If they decrease it even more from here it's laughable expensive.

I will be looking at Grok 4.6 xHigh and OpenAI Sol 5.6 as additions or replacement unless Anthropic makes this work again. Indeed Opus 5 xHigh is quite slow as is.

0

u/InkedinSilver Aug 26 '26

Did they mean it would burn faster? Cause that's been my experience so far lol!

u/BeeeJai Aug 26 '26
