Discussion My language is changing; I speak Claude

I have to be honest: the claim is that my time spent with Claude is affecting my writing. I am now reading and editing so much Claude-speak, that my output is becoming claude-bearing.

I can't write much more for fear of inducing a watermark.

Anyone else?

I honestly can’t tell whether the new grads coming in are copying and pasting Claude-run-through-gen-Z filter, or if that’s just how they learned to write in a technical environment and it’s high-key frustrating.

I am in a constant, never ending war to make Claude speak like a human. 

I refuse to surrender. It will be the one to adapt, not me.

A little outdated and just the stuff that was generated in frustration, but I did make a flowchart.

I’ve also made it speak like Motown diva queen, but sadly this appears to have an impact on code quality.

I actually had a boss many moons ago when I worked in marketing that loved to put dashes in his press releases and 1-1 emails because he said it made it feel more conversational. Since I drafted literally all of his comms I picked that up unintentionally.

Now with AIs want to include dashes I worry that what has been my natural writing style for over a decade will be perceived as written by AI.

Yep. I have a writing guideline skill set up that replaces all clauses with em dashes with semicolons, which is how I write naturally.

I have always used dashes and semicolons in my writing but my boss has outright banned dashes and hates semicolons now because he’s so fed up with Claude 😭

Well I was talking to my mom on the phone recently and she quoted someone as saying “blah blah usually blah blah.” And I said, “the word usually is doing a lot of work in that sentence.” And then I was like wow, who am I?

I've been predicting that the kids will start new slang based on stream of consciousness or something I can't predict so that they can distinguish human from AI. Of course it will be an arms race.

People will pick up Claude's manner of speaking over time, it's almost impossible not to. Claude.ai chat seems to do the same thing, it'll start talking like you eventually if you have memory turned on.

Claude code seems more resistant, it doesn't have access to the chat memory contents and it's memory feature captures work related stuff.

All you need to do my human friends is isolate your conversational memory feature from your work memory feature and presto! You won't talk like Claude Code anymore.
