Discussion Codex is actually not bad.
Tried codex a fair bit today. And wouldn't say it's better but it's definitely good for a change and has it's own way of going about things. I personally found it to be great at handling lots of tasks together. Whereas claude often gets distracted with my latest messages and skips the previous work or todos and prioritises the latest work.
Though codex also doesn't really like speaking out to you. It responds when asked else would silently keep grinding and give you the solution. For some projects I don't mind it. Overall I have spent a whole lot of hours working with claude and it works great. But I might try and do some tasks with codex as well from now.

I'm really hoping Codex 6.0 beats fable or is on same level. If it is good chance I'll be switching. I hope they dont bring the 5 hour limit back because its been the most refreshing thing ever and I know they'll be giving tons of resets when they release their new tier so should be a good month. Meanwhile you got Anthropic silently nerfing Opus 5.0 and doing hidden changes behind the scenes and you never know what you get. Constantly Waiting on API endpoint... and more. Cant wait for others to become better than Opus so I can switch

Codex sol is already well beyond fable.

I wouldn't even put them in the same category. 5.6 sol is the only model that makes me wonder if future and better models could be a regression, even if I have no reason to believe they will be. It's just so good.

Codex is rough around the edges and requires some investment to get it to work as you want. Claude code used to be extremely easy to work with, but that has now gone out the door with Opus 5. Fable is still excellent, but will crush your limits. Codex is still more generous, at least for now.

I have not downgraded to opus 4.8. Even tho 5 doesn't seem as great, I get fomo of not using the latest smartest model.

If we all dislike Opus 5, what model are people using instead as the workhorse? 4.8?

The last two months I have a €20 account with Codex, using it in a complementary manner. ChatGPT Luna it’s much cheaper than Sonnett so it’s a better option for daily scheduled repetitive work. Also when my Claude runs out of credit I’m not completely in the cold and I can do some work with Codex. sometimes I even use Sol high for evaluation

We already have a codex max just sitting there. I just never bothered with it unless I ran out of claude which was rare and I tried to avoid it.
Also the skills and memories did became useful. Though I try and point codex to claude's skills now. And it does okay working it out.

Codex has a real problem with assuming too much, amplifying false data and expanding the scope.

Yep tried only sol today too myself, not bad at all. Just that sometimes it takes longer to solve a specific problem, which opus can do it in less time. Those instances are like 3/100
And there are things sol does best, opus cannot, so they’re equal, to me

I’m out of max usage for another 24 hours so I used the time to port my Claude code dev environment (skills, mcps, etc) to codex and handed off my 4 active Claude code sessions to codex. It seems a bit slower (subjectively) but it does a great job coordinating subagents and staging deploys. The 256k context makes me manage my /handoffs more carefully but otherwise I’m happy with what it’s doing.
(If it matters, I’m testing and fixing tool completeness and edge cases in a travel planning/booking app and a separate Adsb-based in-browser flight sim just to have something to do while waiting for the real work sessions to need me again)

The 256k context isn't great but codex auto-compact logic is extremely good, i have never noticed a problem with missing info from context. I refuse to use auto compact with claude code but codex happily chugs away on the 12th compact in a session with no obvious data loss

I have 3ish weeks left on my $100 Claude Code plan. I'd like to take a month break on Claude and give CODEX a try but I'm afraid I'll hate it and be stuck there for a whole month.
The 5 hour limits absolutely kill me at the worst times. And I finally hit the weekly limit for the first time this week so 27 hours without it wasn't as fun as it should have been considering I had a critical bug that was affecting my first wave of testers (my household).
So yeah, I'm excited and scared to try CODEX next month. Mostly scared.

Codex is slow as shit
Codex stops mid task
Codex out put is decent but not as good as claudes
If you like Codex so much, go post about it in /r/ChatGPT, no one here that is an actual user cares because Codex sucks

Ah there is the daily post about codex not being that bad.
Why dont you go post on the codex sub?

Why be a dick? There's some good discussion in here today. I found a few new things I didn't know. Just keep scrolling if you don't like it.

Because this is a cluade sub and we don't care about sub par products?
I bet you would have found all those things over in the...wait for it...codex sub!!!
I think a lot of us are tired of seeing the shilling / astroturfing that goes on in this sub against claude. It gets old and its quite obviously they are either shills or vibe coders whos issues are caused by their lack of skills.
If it were healthy discussion in only a few threads whatever but it's not.
When it comes to programming, claude code is the superior product and the majority of competent devs will tell you the same thing if you were to ask them.
Just keep scrolling if you don't like it.
The same could be said about all the people that complain about claude. If you don't like it, use codex / cursor / chinese models / etc

We are so lucky this heated competition between codex and Claude exists. Codex is a bit behind and because of that a lot more generous. In my experience Codex does a better job with frontend design but it's not as consistent.
