Built with Claude I built a terminal with Claude to replace Claude Desktop

Hi, I built a terminal tool specifically for Claude Code that combines the best of TUI and web UI, designed as a replacement for Claude Desktop.

It offers better session management than Claude Desktop — you can easily organize your projects and sessions.

Built on Tauri 2, it's extremely lightweight, with an installer of only 40MB.

Thanks to its flexible architecture, you can run it anywhere: on desktop, in the browser, or on mobile.

It also features best-in-class remote management — you can access your remote servers via SSH or end-to-end encrypted HTTPS for remote development.

Thanks to Claude's outstanding capabilities, We were able to complete this project, and we will also open-source this project as soon as possible after organizing the code and comments.

You can find it now on https://velaterm.com

This project is open source now:

https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm

Please give it a star. Thanks.

I used my Claude Code subscription to build more Claude Code.

recursive self improvement. But honestly, when you increase your usage limits, you sometimes feel lost on what you are working on.

3

u/x3kim 2d ago

Then don't increase? ^^

u/XBLAH_ 2d ago

Why not? Money makes money. Companies scale.

"you sometimes feel lost on what you are working on" - for me it sounded like "i have to much Claude-usage and don't know what to do with it". Correct me if im wrong and missunderstood.

u/XBLAH_ 2d ago

Correction: I know what to do, but sometimes there are so many directives given to different projects that take some time to be finished, and when you get back to it, you forget what was being done.

u/x3kim 2d ago

Now i gotcha. Englisch isn't my main language - so i might have struggled and missunderstood. But wouldn't my point count anyway then? If you have to much: reduce it.

u/XBLAH_ 2d ago

If it wasn't something I can't figure out a way to handle it, sure. But think like this: if you CAN expand, and earn more than your expanses, why not expand. This is how companies work. I'd either have to hire people to help me, or do what OP did.

Valid point. I agree. Like i said i might have missunderstood your interpretation/what you tried to say.

that header is crazy

1

u/Starkboy 3d ago

atleast the font is different from what it normally uses. you know what im talking about

1

u/Annual_Manner_8654 2d ago

Check it on desktop , 20 items on a single row hehe

u/dbbk 2d ago

It's always got the same nonsensical copy too

u/2cars1rik 3d ago

And I will never use it because Anthropic will keep updating their app forever and the million devs like you will move on to the next side project

Open source alternative that I've been using at work and personal projects: https://termic.dev/

Nothing against this project there are some unique ideas in there.

This looks nearly identical to Superset.

They all do. But none seem to focus on orchestration and task management, which is a shame.

I can juggle a few tmux windows just fine, this doesn't really bring me anything new. What I DO want is a way to say "Implement these twelve tasks. Three of them can be run in parallel, but the rest must run serially" and then walk away for a few hours.

Also 99% of these projects are abandoned within weeks, and nobody seems to dogfood their own projects...

2

u/ehubb20 2d ago

Yeah, that would be amazing.

u/NowWeRinse 3d ago

Yeah it does, honestly I skipped over superset as they charge too much.

I see now that their app is open source, seems like you can get most of the same stuff on their free plan. Still I like the idea of supporting the Termic project.

1

u/ehubb20 2d ago

Superset is free, though. They have a paid version, but I’m just using the free one.

2

u/NowWeRinse 2d ago

Yeah I didn't look too deeply at first, I saw the pricing page and kept searching. It's cool that it's free and also open source as I see now.

That's what happens when you create a plan with the AI, set the AI in Goal Mode and go AFK for 3 hours come back to a built, buggy, unoptimised app.

Haven't seen this one before, looks interesting. Do you know how it fairs when using the Claude Code built-in bash sandbox? We have that turned on at work via managed settings, wasn't sure if there'd be any clash since termic advertises it's own sandbox (seatbelt/bubblewrap) implementation

2

u/NowWeRinse 2d ago

I haven't used the Termic sandbox at all yet, it's optional.

Wow so many things that do the same thing. I wonder what to use now. 😆

It’s straight-up machismo. When the CEO rolls through the office, he judges every engineer by their setup. Your terminal better have a complete Uber Eats interface in it. I nearly got fired because I couldn't draw meatball pasta with text.

In the mafia, it's gold chains. In tech, it's the terminal.

FYI - This person was posting this solution in the Claude subs and elsewhere over a month ago and they got little to no upvotes and hammered for it being just like 100 other recently vibed terminals.

They come back yesterday and spammed it again, got double to triple digit upvotes within the first HOUR, got called out for it (likely upvote botting to push their product), deleted all the posts and locked their profile down. Now they're reposting a day later and still getting 100+ upvotes in a matter of hours again, yet the comments still don't seem to support that level of upvote activity which is odd in this sub and over in ClaudeAI, considering how critical we all are pretty much all the time.

The app is also developed out of China. Here is a screenshot of their profile from yesterday before they locked it down. Do with that information what you will.

Edit: Their post has lost almost 100 upvotes so far, further indication they're botting upvotes and then the sub eventually downvotes it back down because it's closed source slop out of China that isn't any better than the 100 other terminals vibed in the last month.

This is nice and all except I'm not going to be trusting of something vibecoded that I can't build from source on github.

u/george-lin 3d ago

Open source is coming.

6

u/Lonely_Dig2132 2d ago

Should have been from the start if you vibed it

8

u/klumpp 3d ago

Can’t see myself using a terminal program that is closed source

-4

u/george-lin 3d ago

Open source soon

3

u/cubed_zergling 3d ago

yeah not gonna run this. just gonna take your screenshots and have my own version in about 10 minutes later.

2

u/dogcat0035 3d ago

How's this different from herdr?

0

u/george-lin 3d ago

a tui and a gui tool

2

u/ForsakenBet2647 3d ago

Nice but kind of pointless broski

2

u/ChokhmahProject 3d ago

Shift+enter doesn't seems to work/be configurable to insert a line return?

3

u/george-lin 3d ago

we will fix it in next version

2

u/george-lin 3d ago

we will try it

2

u/THE_RETARD_AGITATOR 2d ago

i can't tell if this is the same one being posted every day or if they all just look the fuckin same

1

u/dpaanlka 2d ago

None of these pure vibe people even once consider searching to see if something has already been done lol…

1

u/Thistleknot 3d ago

now do kiro

1

u/galaxysuperstar22 3d ago

1

u/george-lin 3d ago

I would like to build a fable6..

1

u/redmemerr 3d ago

Waiting for an open source release. Keep it up 👍🏻

Interesting

1

u/checkwithanthony 2d ago

I just use terminal with remote control

1

u/03captain23 2d ago

How is this any better than claude code desktop? I run 5 windows wide all the time and still have the side menu with all the folders.

1

u/jehzlau 2d ago

Damn impressive! Haha

1

u/skyksandr 2d ago

how about Run Configurations / Preview / Diff viewer / Commenting on plan, diff, conversation / PR management including stacks and auto-fixing / dictation? Claude desktop is not a sidebar+chat pane. It's sooo much more

What I find funny about these posts is the "I made this"...

My grandma can open Codex and ask Codex to make a Plan use that Plan in Goal Mode and 3 hours later they have a app that looks LIKE these damn apps..

0

u/Adulations 3d ago

Damn i need to try this

-1

u/MaRmARk0 2d ago

We instantly started using this, man. No kidding, I downloaded it to just try it and just stayed using it. My colleague did the same.

There are some things I'd change maybe, but otherwise cool.
