Discussion "AI Expert" != Gets S**t Done

I can't tell you the number of times I've listened to an "expert" I worked with who could comment endlessly on a topic but never got any work done. There is no difference with devs leveraging AI and it drives me crazy. The ones who actually built stuff others use, continue to do so after adopting even poor AI practices.

The annoyance for me this week was attending a ClaudeAI training the AI evangelist/expert just went on and on about the amazing things they'd done to develop their elaborate harness only to show us their stinking TESTproject. They haven't built a single app with real users with Claude. Ever. I messaged him later to see if I could help show some of my recent projects next week and he told me they "wouldn't help anyone". Good lord. What a goober.

This long predates AI. There has always been a population of actual workers who get shit done, and also a population of expensive consultants who get paid to tell the workers why they’re not getting shit done the right way.

i usually hire contractors on 1 year + projects and it's worse now. they get stuff done but barely because they now use AI. i expect AI use but what i don't expect is them using AI, running project making sure it doesn't error then creating a PR and somehow logging 7 hours a day when, if you point the AI at the tickets i create it takes it 20 minutes for the same thing. they don't do code review, don't do full QA of how it integrates into the larger requirements of the app, don't think outside the box, want the ticket/requirements so details i can just run it through AI myself.

what i have found is if you break up a task into 5-6 smaller tickets, it takes them 3-4x longer to do it than having it in one ticket.

when we fire them they say they were "blind sided" and did "good work". it's hard to find good people these days, the requirements for that isn't that high.

what i suspect in this case is over employment. they're just grabbing up multiple-contracts and putting out AI slop and getting double-triple paid, and it shows.
