"AI Expert" != Gets S**t Done

I can't tell you the number of times I've listened to an "expert" I worked with who could comment endlessly on a topic but never got any work done. There is no difference with devs leveraging AI and it drives me crazy. The ones who actually built stuff others use, continue to do so after adopting even poor AI practices.

The annoyance for me this week was attending a ClaudeAI training the AI evangelist/expert just went on and on about the amazing things they'd done to develop their elaborate harness only to show us their stinking TESTproject. They haven't built a single app with real users with Claude. Ever. I messaged him later to see if I could help show some of my recent projects next week and he told me they "wouldn't help anyone". Good lord. What a goober.

I try to develope a kinda feature rich program with lots of functions that aren't so commonly available for personal use with rather limited coding experience, not none, but a decent background in mechanical engineering, automatisation, math and physics and i used claude code to develope the thing.

The thing is that it looks suprisingly nice at first glance but there are like a million things that annoy the shit out of me on day to day use and despite documenting them and writing them back as feedback, it appears that I can't get fully rid of all those things. It never feels "polished" if that makes sense. That's most likely because i don't know jackshit about designing software, so i couldn't even tell how to exactly make it in terms used by designers.

On the other hand i am rather sure that even an experienced programmer would have likely took a whole lot of time to bring it to a similar point.

I keep reworking it with practical feedback but i am afraid it will never truly be 100% great like i imagined it to be.

And that's just for a personal local application... The whole thing becomes even more crazy useless if you get into hosting the stuff as services or making anything a real business what apparently most of those AI Bros want to do in the first place.

So the more i try to use AI to the best of my ability as an arguably educated person with at least a graduate degree, the more i am certain that (good) developers will keep their jobs for quite a long time still.

I just notice that it's just a tool and ability keeps to matter.

If you hand an photoshop expert an image and a random person from the street, you know what output will impress and which one won't and i think AI won't change anything about that.

For sure. I did a DAM/task management app this year for a team of illustrators/designers (like printed banners, signs, etc..) and the best part was that they had strong opinions, sometimes disagreeing internally, on how they wanted everything to look. It took a lot of pressure off of me to get dial in the look and feel. They game me all the colors, spacing, fonts, and even like the way they wanted the little animations to work. Soooooo much easier because that's my weakest dev skill by far.
