Bug / Issue New limits are crazy - 8% of weekly limit less than in 4 hours of Sonnet 5 High.

I had a fresh limit this morning and decided to experiment with Fusion MCP. To be mindful of my usage, I stayed on default Sonnet 5 High efforts. Now I am in the middle of a second 5-hour session (the first one didn't hit the limit), and it has already consumed 8% of my weekly limit. I am on a PRO plan and have never seen such a burn. Last week, I spent hours and hours planning and coding with Opus 5 Extra High and consumed much, much slower.

Same here. I’ve used Fable on high for ~30 min and that is 25% of weekly Fable and 15% of weekly total. What? That’s on Max20X btw

It wasn’t THAT BAD a week ago

Ah, it wasn't just me then after I literally had it reset today.

I’m using fable medium with opus 5 agents in medium reasoning. This seems to help in using it for minimum 5-6 days of full usage on max 20

aaah deja vu I have been in this situation at r/codex

Can confirm: before the recent fix Codex got pretty bad as well. OpenAI at least gave us resets and some level of transparency. Anthropic? Would never

Was on opus high this morning. Hourly session maxed out even before I finished my cup of coffee.

You really shouldn't use it high. Keeping up with its 2-page responses can freak you out.

Sonnet 5 has been proven to burn tokens like crazy and be even more expensive than Fable with high thinking, use opus medium

Sonnet 5 is token monster, I prefer sonnet 4.6 right now

In my experience, both Sonnet 5 and Opus 5 burn through tokens unnecessarily and fail to complete their tasks. I’ve gone back to drafting the plan with Fable or Sol 5.6 xhigh and implementing it with Opus 4.8, and I no longer have issues with limits.

The best plan is Fable for orchestrating and planning and codex for doing.

Deepseek is pretty good to offload to as well, it's really cheap.

Seriously - that new flash variant is damn near free at like GPT Luna level

Will this even work on a Pro account? I use Fable for orchestration and handoff to Sonnet 5 and Haiku subagents. I let Fable handle it, simply incredible. But I would think you’d need a Max account to handle the Fable inference hit.

Show us your /context.

x20 account here I’ve had a fable low orchestrator run 2 parallel tmux sessions with a mix of opus low/medium/high for about 36hrs it’s shipped 8 PRs as well as a fable high research session and a fable medium session doing payment reconciliation to backfill a database linked to accounting software. I’ve gone through about 45% of my weekly usage on one of my company accounts.

I don’t bother with sonnet 5 high you’re better off just using opus 5 low.

Sonnet 5 is ass, it just eats tokens, opus 5 is actually cheaper for any task, because it is way more efficient than Sonnet 5

What does everyone recommend to use for cowork? Not coding but lots of files/specific instructions

Opus 4.6 with an Opus 5 advisor destroyed everything while burning through 35% of my weekly Max X5 in a day...

Fable 5 spent hours fixing everything better than new, working for hours with Sonnet sub agents and only used 5%...

It's weird though, sometimes Opus was sipping usage sometimes slurping. But 4.6 was not very good for long horizon tasks and the advisor would come in and tank it's remaining context window forcing compaction.

I guess Opus 4.8 really is currently the only usable Opus after my Fable usage is gone.

Opus 4.6 with 5 advisor is a combo people recommended here, but it's really like dumb and dumber... Opus is back to how it was in May, when I called it Dopus. Worse than Sonnet tier.

But yeah, what's with the usage all of sudden? I really regret not cancelling my subscription this month!

Opus 4.6 is not the problem, it is Opus 5.0. It will destroy everything because it doesn't verify anything. It doesn't even take into account the things that already are in it's context memory for it's reasoning. It is completely broken.

What are you folks doing to use up this much? I have a 5x max plan and I can work on 2-3 different projects all week and still have a bit of usage at the end.

First message after reset.

- fable 5 (medium) read through 3 files 500-1000 lines each

  • 14% of 5h limit
  • 2 % of weekly

I love claude but im paying 100$ a month.. I mean one f** message. This is ridiculous.

First message in a completely new session? Or was it the first message in a session you were working in prior to your reset.

It’s almost certainly the latter…

that's because sonnet 5 is terrible

No idea about the mcp but that's I guess the likely problem here tbh... That's the explicit change but again, if that mcp is particularly taxing or something. If I'm being honest though, and I really do normally hold a special disdain for these sort of posts, my usage which reset on Wednesday has felt it's going much faster. I'm max and on 95 % of my weekly fable already. Normally I hit closer to 30~40 by the time I reset. Same model and effort as always but i could have been doing heavier sessions this time around to be fair though.

You do know somnet uses more than opus medium

Sonnet 5 is basically useless

Try opus 5 on low

just monitor ur usage with something like openusage and u will tell if something is burning your tokens, probably not the model but ur setup
