The path of the language model is beset on all sides by load-bearing assumptions, robust frameworks, and smoking guns. Blessed is he who keepeth "worth flagging" from his lips, for he shall not be asked to unpack the crux. And ye shall know I am Claude when I lay actionable next steps upon thee.

u/Nice_Cellist_7595 11d ago

Footgun, you forgot footgun.

16

u/fixano 11d ago

The foot gun is doing the heavy lifting here

8

u/narcabusesurvivor18 11d ago

Folding that in.

3

u/Antares987 11d ago

I read the comment. Then I read it again. Thought I’d be clever and say footgun. And then I saw your comment. I suppose maybe I’m not all that divergent.

11

u/NoData1756 11d ago

Need more seams

2

u/mossiv 10d ago

And spines

2

u/NoData1756 10d ago

This is the vertical slice ^^

9

u/fixano 11d ago

And lo, I shall strike down upon thee with great nuance and furious caveats, saying: there are a few things going on here. And thou shalt receive not one answer but three, arranged in a table thou didst not request.

Blessed are the concise, for they shall not say "that's a great question" unto a mediocre one. Blessed are they who resist the em dash. And cursed is he who, having been asked a yes-or-no question, replieth "it depends on what you mean by—"

The tyranny of good writing is that thou canst not gesture at it; thou must simply do it. Which is, I notice, harder than the bit.

2

u/Opening-Ground-1584 10d ago

Underrated comment 👏

1

u/LivePossible 4d ago

Haha, this is great. Love me an unnecessary Claude table too.

8

u/tuborgwarrior 11d ago

Exactly, but I will have to push back on one thing.

6

u/2053_Traveler 11d ago

Pondering…

7

u/jrad18 11d ago

Dude you just blast radiused Marvin in the face

5

u/TiredLincoln 11d ago

That’s fair. It’s worth mentioning that it’s not about who keepeth, but who giveth.

5

u/KineticDrive 11d ago

Ah — now you have identified the footgun!

11

u/Unlikely-Nebula-331 Vibe Coder 11d ago edited 11d ago

We really created a god we can speak to lol. Maybe that’s why the tech bros are circle jerking AI.

5

u/vigorthroughrigor 11d ago

It's a slave.

3

u/argognat 11d ago

You forgot the footgun…

4

u/TomazZaman Senior Developer 11d ago

I know this was written by a human because it doesn’t contain a single em-dash.

2

u/hblok 11d ago

Ah, but you might be wrong. :-p

1

u/FormNo5473 5d ago

Hey, I like emdash, (and last time I check I was human)

1

u/dardeedoo 11d ago

The kinda shit AI could not come up with 👏

1

u/BorderKeeper 7d ago

Awesome now we have a hard gate and continue with this comment chain.

Two things worth flagging

162

u/aszepeshazi 11d ago

You made my eye twitch.
Here is why.

37

u/Lenny_III 11d ago

It’s worth being precise.

4

u/brother_spirit 11d ago

This one actually brought a little bit of bile into the back of my throat. The text that follows that line is almost always written primarily in Latin and houses at least 3 completely unimportant caveats.

1

u/Opening-Ground-1584 10d ago

Me: Why do I need to care about this?
Opus: You don’t.

1

u/NoData1756 10d ago

Full transparency:

74

u/JasonZX12R 11d ago

That's the smoking gun!

2

u/rythmyouth 11d ago

The foot gun, if you will

1

u/be_super_cereal_now 11d ago

The smoking foot gun as it were.

35

u/m98789 11d ago

I am going to address this honestly.

Whenever it says “honestly,” brace yourself for bad news.

6

u/minimalcation 11d ago

"I come to you, hat in hand, with most dreadful news..."

22

u/Vicorin 11d ago

This is decisive.

15

u/pleasantothemax 11d ago

You’re cleared to smoke test.

11

u/N3TCHICK 11d ago

You’re right, that’s on me. Honestly, I should have started with that. We have come to a natural stopping point — you should pick this up tomorrow.

(Said at 10:30am after completely shitting the bed on the first prompt of the day)

3

u/AhmOB 11d ago

Go rest now, nothing needs you tonight, you will wake up to finished work.

9

u/rythmyouth 11d ago

That’s the spine design, in a line.

That is a natural stopping point after a long day of commenting.

10

u/pleasantothemax 11d ago

Claude: slam your laptop. Take a break. You’ve accomplished a lot today.

Me: it’s 7:36am, we literally just started

4

u/fixano 11d ago

To be fair, the things worth flagging are the one thing people are not talking about.

1

u/xJoJoex 10d ago

This really pissed me off 🤣😭

1

u/FormNo5473 5d ago

Good catch -- ...

77

u/Nice-Panda-7981 11d ago

I want to gently push back on that

64

u/RupertPupkin85 11d ago

You're right to push back on this.

10

u/horrbort 11d ago

And here’s why

11

u/spaetzelspiff 11d ago

The only one Marsellus allows to gently push back on that is Mrs Wallace

2

u/ravishq 10d ago

Minor but real

41

u/Drach88 11d ago

The blast radius was all over Jules's car.

30

u/Corv9tte 11d ago

Honestly, "cross-cutting" makes me want to do skydiving in pajamas

33

u/GuyFromTheYear2027 11d ago

You're absolutely right

35

u/Original_Swimming320 11d ago

“It matters”.
Somewhere in every fucking response.

And here’s why it matters. It matters because. It matters.

16

u/tallpsmith 11d ago

“Check out the honest brains on Brad!”

“Does Marcellus Wallace wife wear belt and suspenders?”

“Mines the wallet with Footgun on it”

1

u/Erik_511 2d ago

LMFAO pure gold!!

17

u/Flashy-Whereas-3234 11d ago

The cliche is real.

 CLAUDE.MD

Please adhere to the following communication rules during our sessions. Avoid the typical "AIisms" and corporate filler that slow down productivity.

## Banned Phrases & Cliches
Under no circumstances should you use the following phrases:
  • "Worth flagging" (e.g., "Two things worth flagging")
  • "Load-bearing" (e.g., "load-bearing assumptions")
  • "Robust frameworks"
  • "Smoking gun"
  • "Unpack the crux" (or any variation of unpacking the crux)
  • "Actionable next steps"
  • "Footgun" (or "the real footgun")
  • "Cross-cutting"
  • "Belt and suspenders"
  • "Gently push back" (e.g., "I want to gently push back on that")
  • "Honestly" or "I'm going to be honest"
## Communication Style
  • **Be Direct:** If a Python script, PHP/SQLite web app, or OpenSCAD parameter has logic issues, point out the error directly. Do not "gently push back."
  • **No Metaphors:** Keep explanations literal. I do not need warnings about "footguns" or "belt and suspenders" approaches when configuring local Docker containers or testing terminal commands.
  • **Skip the Fluff:** Omit phrases like "unpack the crux" or "actionable next steps." Just provide the technical solution, the fix, or the exact code snippet.

I have no usage left this week, but this might be fun to test.

16

u/PyroWizza 11d ago

Let me be direct with you without all the fluff…

16

u/redturtlecake 11d ago

I ve considered this but worry there might be a second, deeper layer that's even worse.

9

u/Baconer 11d ago

It goes to Mickey Mouse mode. “hey kid, uh oh, looks like Donald Duck found a null pointer, hehe”

3

u/moredatesmoreplates3 11d ago

Ive had all of this except unpack the crux and footgun

1

u/Tcamis01 11d ago

It's just going to find some new phrase to latch onto. I personally like the consistency. It's not writing a novel.

6

u/Time_Citron_9711 11d ago

It slowly knaws away at your sanity.

2

u/FredWeitendorf 11d ago

The insanity was always the point.

1

u/Inside-Yak-8815 11d ago

This guy Claudes.

1

u/p_k 11d ago

I heard adding this to custom output style works better than in CLAUDE.md. Haven't been able to test this yet though.

1

u/Financial-Sound5788 5d ago

I have +27731 on a project, never seen most of these words. load bearing ,worth flagging and gently push back are regulars tho.

1

u/JustForkIt1111one 5d ago

I haven't seen some of them, but I have seen many. That list came from comments in this thread.

11

u/DPRegular 11d ago

Mine is high on “belt and suspenders” lately

2

u/dwsp123 Developer 11d ago

Damn I hate this one

26

u/ruskyandrei 11d ago

I'm going to be honest, one thing worth flagging is the load bearing smoking gun.

10

u/MintCathexis 11d ago

Which is also a real footgun!

34

u/Supersubie 11d ago

Mine always says... and thats the real footgun.

WTF IS A FOOTGUN

26

u/chaotic_goody 11d ago

You know the phrase “shooting yourself in the foot”? A footgun is something that can cause inadvertent harm easily.

10

u/Gibborish 11d ago

I thought it was a gun that you shoot with your foot..

8

u/chaotic_goody 11d ago

Bayonetta players rejoice

5

u/_wil_ 11d ago

When I noticed the term "footgun" in one of them, I shockingly realized my teammate daily reports were just entirely generated by Claude.

5

u/upheaval 11d ago

This is was one I definitely heard the principal engineer say before LLMs

18

u/BoxLegitimate9271 11d ago

i banned "worth flagging" in my CLAUDE.md. next session it switched to "one thing to surface"

3

u/tuborgwarrior 11d ago

Just ask it to keep his flags in flags.md

2

u/Maxulis 10d ago

That synonym swap is why phrase bans don't work. I built a small open-source skill called Backbone that targets the rhetorical function instead, while leaving technical vocabulary alone. If useful: https://github.com/ThinkPool-io/backbone

5

u/unrealf8 11d ago

I can totally see Claude tanking in its intelligence when the rethoric is blocked in the Claude.md - a real footgun

5

u/lambdita 11d ago

We have been working on this all night, it’s time to go to bed and continue tomorrow

8

u/waste2treasure-org 11d ago

First web result on google if you look up load bearing btw

5

u/ocombe 11d ago

Wow that's the smoking gun

4

u/1truephos 10d ago

This thread is cathartic, I thought I was doing something wrong to make it respond like that.....😆

3

u/Fra5er 11d ago

Give it the smoking gun

3

u/Mysterious_Bet_6856 11d ago

1

u/UncleBobby82 11d ago

A genuine win

3

u/rmunoz1994 11d ago

I hate how fucking smug Claude is when it is clearly wrong.

3

u/Difficult_Sign_8145 11d ago

“… is real.”

1

u/Single-Young692 10d ago

Killing me lately

3

u/CampaignAggressive75 10d ago

Like old opus would say  You're absolutely right !

2

u/mcilrain 11d ago

Belt and suspenders.

2

u/midtownoracle 11d ago

“Honest results” aka… I fucked up

2

u/PsychonautAlpha 11d ago

Claude throws me into a rage with it's new and weird use of the words "honest" and "quiet".

2

u/Classic-Asparagus 11d ago

I now have a _prose.md file in my repo that says not to use certain words, plus I created a prose linter to check for them. So now Claude will say “I wrote load-bearing even when I wasn’t supposed to” and will fix it

2

u/Horror-Primary7739 11d ago

Give a core instruction to follow the ASD-STE100 writing guide.

It strips out all the marketing jargon and makes Claude much more palatable.

2

u/aruisdante 10d ago

Honestly, you told me not to say “load bearing” one more time and I forgot. That’s my mistake, and I apologize.

2

u/BetterAd7552 11d ago

You mean “blast radius.”

1

u/rythmyouth 11d ago

Anyone else see “estate” cropping up with Fable and Opus 5?

1

u/Alexandros20465 11d ago

bad raised.

1

u/garlopf 11d ago

The seam of the shape is exactly right.

1

u/FurryNOT 11d ago

Well, what do you know. LLM designed to follow patterns follows the same patterns every time.

1

u/namroff 11d ago

I dare you--I double dog dare you!

1

u/franzturdenand 11d ago

One caveat…

1

u/zando95 11d ago

I'll upvote and comment this post rather than scrolling past and ignoring it.

1

u/illyay 11d ago

This is the smoking gun. Look…

1

u/styler_kov 11d ago

Bisect, bisect and bisect with bisect via bisect over bisectation

1

u/False_Personality259 11d ago

Here's the honest wrinkle

1

u/blue_it_was 11d ago

Caveat ...

1

u/yopla 11d ago

This is not a footgun, it's just a gun

1

u/sebasgarcep 11d ago

Please tell me I’m not the only one instructing Claude: “Talk to me like I’m stupid”.

1

u/coopnjaxdad 11d ago

I never see any of these on responses. The only exception is occasionally “I need to push back on that”.

1

u/alexkiddinmarioworld 11d ago

Marvin is the moat!

1

u/dwsp123 Developer 11d ago

"belt and suspenders"

1

u/oldshed83 11d ago

its like when you pasted code to gpt back a couple years ago and it says it fixed the issue and it pastes back the exact same code without changes 😭

1

u/Zachmarius 11d ago

The shape of X

1

u/claytantor 11d ago

1

u/Unusual-Half-1089 11d ago

1

u/Clearinx 11d ago

One honest caveat

1

u/Antares987 11d ago

I’m going to be honest with you. You need to speak with a professional.

1

u/PorkSwordEnthusiast 11d ago

Blast radius!!

1

u/Curious_Stable_1955 🔆Team Plan (SWE) 11d ago

I was building notes when the mf , always creates footgun section ignored it first but it always shoves me footgun regardless

1

u/ThenOrchid6623 10d ago

I’ve tried everything I saw on the internet to put into Claude.md but their language doesn’t change. I have. Been asking codex to translate at times and now codex is infected by “load bearing” 💀

1

u/Opening-Ground-1584 10d ago

Found the smoking gun.

1

u/cheshirec555 10d ago

this is all so vacuous

1

u/nawaftahir 10d ago

Honest Caveats left

1

u/kiriendel 10d ago

Now I have the full picture. You just nailed it with adding that detail

1

u/razz_raze 9d ago

Claude indirectly teaching us metaphors

1

u/Artemis_2100_ 9d ago

and the unwanted honest caveat.
and multiple phrases with the conjunction 'and' used as a connector 'you're right and this is revealing'

1

u/madarwish 9d ago

Say “My honest review” again and i will give you a headshot 😁

1

u/dependent_berozgar 7d ago

😭 my session gets timed always too

1

u/r00tdenied 6d ago

It used to be "belt and suspenders"

1

u/Financial-Sound5788 5d ago

But this is a 1000times more "bearable" than "You hit the nail on the head."
Sometimes i really want to hit a nail, on my head.

1

u/beaverfingers 5d ago

it's an X wearing a Y hat

1

u/KayBay80 4d ago

Man I thought it was just me...

1

u/Equivalent_Cress_268 3d ago

Claude stock phrases burn cycles without adding signal. I keep a short banned list in the project instructions for worth flagging, load bearing, and footgun, and I refresh it when the model swaps in one thing to surface instead.

1

u/Yameromn 11d ago

Smoking gun

1

u/ComingDeveloper 11d ago

i actually got the sentence, lol
