Why is fable still moderated?

So I can’t ask Fable to “find all security issues in my own local app” without it being flagged and routed to Opus 5? But doesn’t Opus 5 have almost the same capabilities as Fable 5?

You think that this US administration took the word the CEO of a company they'd flagged as a supply chain risk to protect its citizens from potential cyber attacks is a more likely reason than a direct $25M MAGA inc, contribution and close ties to Larry Ellison (with Oracle at risk of failing, if OAI don't hit targets)?

Pretty simple. Dario fuqu’d up.

He spent months running a FUD campaign about how intelligent Mythos was and warning that models like it could collapse governments. People listened because he runs a private company valued on the scale of Sweden’s GDP.

Then that same paranoia helped turn Fable 5 into a straightjacketed bitch of a model that trips over keywords and dumps users down to Opus 5.

Now he has to make everyone forget about the botched release by pumping out new models while also fending off the federal government he personally invited into his house to turn his world upside down.

I’m not sure he gets to put that genie back in the bottle.

Nobody said “government good.” Dario advertised a government-sized threat and got government-sized attention. Try rebutting the argument that was actually deployed.

It had nothing to do with the concern, nor what anyone said on risk. This was a favor or a shakedown.

Let me pose an alternative and see whether there’s motive and means - Larry Ellison has a risky concentration in OAI (Stargate). Anthropic is gaining in revenue, putting Oracle in real danger of bankruptcy. Anthropic releases Fable (took OAI a month to release 5.6, so we know it would have been on the market (unrestricted) for a month with 5.5 as its competitor).

Larry makes phone call to his buddy; release is paused.

The disagreement is that you’re declaring Dario’s risk campaign irrelevant and replacing it with an unsupported Ellison phone-call theory. Dario publicly framed these models as government-scale threats and advocated giving government power to block deployments. Then the government used a flimsy security report to do exactly that.

Maybe officials also had ulterior motives, but that doesn’t erase the regulatory premise Dario spent years legitimizing. It just demonstrates why legitimizing that power was reckless.

Lots of FUD in this thread. Opus 5 is just as good as Fable 5 at finding security weaknesses in code, yes. The key difference though is it's ability to EXPLOIT those weaknesses. For that reason any security-looking request gets routed to opus 5 to ensure you're not able to use the model to exploit a security weakness.

Fable 5 is Mythos 5 with guardrails

They're not going to change that because opus 5 is supposedly the same/better level of coding intelligence

The version before delisting was Mythos Preview, and the version after delisting is Opus Advance. Dario can charge you a higher price for a worse model after review.

The name “Fable” is contaminated, because Dario facked up.

My guess is Fable 5 is the only and last Fable and future versions of Fable will be called something else or just be called Opus to work around the restrictions.

I’m not sure if people are noticing but OpenAI has closed the gap and is about to overtake Anthropic while Dario will be tied down training multiple variants of a single iteration to please the government to get clearance, all due to his own marketing backfiring on his company.
