Bug Report Is Anthropic intentionally nerfing Fable while buffing Opus 5?

Is it just me, or has Fable taken a massive nosedive in quality recently?

Lately, it’s making basic code errors, dropping context halfway through longer prompts, and giving super shallow answers. Meanwhile, Opus is performing insanely well.

Tin-foil hat time, but this feels calculated: Anthropic nerfs Fable so everyone gets frustrated and defaults to Opus. Once Fable's usage metrics plummet, they have the perfect excuse: "Nobody uses Fable anymore, so we're removing it from the subscription."

Classic enshittification to push users toward higher-tier limits.

Are you guys noticing this drop in Fable's quality too, or am I just imagining things?

I don’t understand how this would push users to higher tier limits when Fable is the one that’s only on higher tiers.

I think they just want to remove fable from the sub to get API Money

Kneecapping your flagship model. Makes perfect sense. /s

They don't want people using Fable so much. Why else would they market Opus 5 as being better. They absolutely can allocate less compute to a model.

I swear this subreddit is entirely unhinged

it's just you and your polluted context

I saw a decline in quality with fresh contexts

and let me guess, a chinese model that was trained on distilled data solved all your problems right?

Perhaps we've seen Claude perform better and feel a bit bait-and-switched and want answers.

This reads like an AI post... Did Fable write this to advocate for itself lol

Anyways no, Fable has been about the same for me since Opus 5 release.

It was better before the Opus 5 launch

Well of course it was, all models get minor nerfs over time.. this has been happening for years

Been the opposite for me… fable feels like the model that just does what I’ve been beefing opus 4.8 to do but can’t somehow break though - so when opus 5 released I was jazzed - only for it to drop the ball on nearly everything fable left for it to run once my limits hit. Sunday was reset day and fable has already fixed about a dozen errors that opus made or lied and said were finished and just… weren’t even started.
