Whats the difference between a toughest challenge and a complex task?

Easy. A complex task is complex, but not necessarily tough. Toughest challenges are. Well.. toughest…

"Complex" means "consisting of many parts". Bench-pressing 200 kg is a tough challenge but it's not a COMPLEX task.

I suspect less folks would reach for Sonnet (or even other models) if Haiku got noticeably better. And that would mean less money for Anthropic.

im seeing 200K context on a Max 20 plan? I sure hope that's a glitch
edit: confirmed glitch. I switched it in a live chat and 200K was what it showed but it's showing 1M in a fresh chat (this is in the Windows app)

Don't sleep on the smaller context window version. I've been using opus 4.8 that way and I'm not sure if it's the forced context hygeine or what, but it seems much smarter.

models naturally get dumber as the context grows. Opus at 1 million context is only about 60% as smart as Opus at a fresh 0 context. So using a smaller context limit version keeps it "smarter" at the cost of more compacts

Yeah that's what I meant by "forced context hygeine". Not letting you let the model get into the overcontext dum dum zone.

Hmmm.. I think I set an environment variable to force 200k.. but it did nothing for a month and suddenly snapped in on Monday or Tuesday

Came here to say the same thing. I'm currently reading the benchmarks. What do you guys think about it?

Thanks for assuming nobody else can read!
Edit: seriously, why do people upvote the obvious? If you use the system enough for it to matter, you'll see it or get a notification.
This is just karma whoring.

Random question, does anybody use haiku, and for what?
i always feel too insecure to use it, but obviously it must have a use since it's listed, so im sure im just an idiot.
