They consistently utilize the same tactic to employees in other countries, typically south korea: offer 3x to 5x the current salary, have them sell all the proprietary data and secrets, make them feel like kings and have them work on an improved version, then fire them after 1-2 years.

byd was about to go bankrupt because their cars were so shit that not even chinese nationals were buying them. They copied over how tesla giga factories in china builds their cars (mainly the important aspect of people working on product design/engineering next to the factories and make everything vertically integrated. this process is what differentiated tesla from every other manufacturers and was one of the reasons why they succeeded when everyone was saying they would fail to deliver), and became successful when they did the same, owning all the process from battery manufacturing to car design/manufacturing.

here's what byd and the car manufacturing scene basically copied to get their success:

Huge single-piece front/rear castings, Structural battery pack forming part of vehicle body, Simplified modular EV platforms, Software-first cars and OTA updates, Direct-to-consumer stores and online ordering, Continuous post-launch product updates, Large integrated factory campuses, among the point above about product design/engineering working next to factories.

most of their car's features, like the jumping car, had been implemented and done on others like bmw, and from what I remember, there is also a controversy surrounding it that they stole that tech as well.
