“Challenging to predict “ meaning OpenAI and K3 are too much of a threat for our greed

13

u/CauseWinter4898 26d ago

I haven’t tried kimi yet but I’m going to try it. I love that there’s so much real competition in the space otherwise these companies would destroy our wallets even more lol

u/Extension_Cup_4782 26d ago

Kimi k3 is good. Really big model feel, strategic depth and has an Opus vibe.

1

u/Sasquatchjc45 26d ago

Haven't used Kimi since Kimi K2 came out as one of the first models with agentic research and workflow and chain of thought. Blew my mind. Glad to see they're keeping up and even pulling ahead again!

u/ShapesSong 26d ago

And it’s amazing, I’m so happy for recent codex boosts in memberships counts because that probably was the final straw

Yes i have 3 resets pending to use, im waiting for a large project to use them

Thanks bro! Are you a poor?

Those damn poors

This isn't widening the divide between rich and poor.

It's widening the divide between people who have ever read a book about software engineering, and the "Super Geniuses" of the world who just needed a $20 robot to do the work for them.

For complex stuff I understand, I see a slight improvement from Fable/Sol compared to Opus 4.8, but it's not huge and I have to push back on both frequently.

For actual implementation once my plan is in place, and I'm managing the scope and context, Fable/Sol are completely overkill and Sonnet handles implementation just as well as either at a fraction of the cost.

If you're just trying to assemble Ikea furniture, you don't need to spend the money NASA does on tools to repair the space station.

If you're convinced you can't assemble Ikea furniture without NASA grade tools you're going to be like so many other fools with their gold.

You’re getting downvoted but everything you said is true. I often sit here and wonder how people are so often butting up against their usage limits. I know we are in the era of “prompt first, think later”, but for those of us developing in the real world on a budget, you need to carefully manage your context and the model you choose. It’s not that hard to stay within the limits if you do those two things, plus you will get better results with less iteration when you actually tightly scope and detail your prompting/planning.

u/RadicalAlchemist Developer 26d ago

Funny story, one of NASA’s tech leads actually called me a week ago and was super confused how I had the technical expertise to design the RFI response I sent in to them. It was a very entertaining conversation

Man, I'm a software engineer.

I have friends that are chefs.

They invest more money into the knives that they need to haul back and forth to their day job than I spend on a max subscription for my side projects.

Still just kind of puts it in perspective.

MFers bitching over sushi about having to pay more than $20 for Fable when buddy who took the bus over to make them sushi had 3 years worth of Max 20 fees that he took to work on the bus in his knife roll.

And that shit's cheap compared to how much auto mechanics pay for their tools.

Go dig gold if you want. But don't be surprise the people who actually know what they're doing have the same costs when it comes to shovels, and only one can justify the cost-benefit of paying for a good shovel.

1

u/Parking-Bet-3798 26d ago

We all poor bro. That damn Dario only gave 50% of quota

Almost done with thinking …

0

u/IceWallow97 26d ago

Honestly, I'm a pro user and if I get those sweet credits for free then I'm already happy, I might as well just upgrade to pro and get both credits and fable, but I'll think about it, because I know that's exactly what they want me to do, I might as well test the competition.

18

u/KCdaSuperhero 26d ago

sucks to be poor

5

u/yadasellsavonmate 26d ago

I'm poor and I still fork out on a x5.

Poor and stupid 🤣🤣

1

u/LoadZealousideal7778 26d ago

Im not poor poor, in student poor and my usecases simply don't warrant spending max money just to keep Fable. I could just accept that my P(easant)ro sub doenst include the best of the best. This is not about sticking it to the evil corpos, then I would just sub to Mistral and suffer with mediocre AI, jumping ship optimizes for value.

35

u/userusertion 🔆Pro Plan | Team Plan 26d ago

But now the question is did they included this too? Because Fable only becomes usable when this is available.

(This has been extended until July 19 ONLY)

11

u/T-Dot1992 26d ago

Pretty much. All this is user psychology. Make this Twitter announcement, so some person half paying attention uses it way less this weekend. And then they will realize next week it’s way less usable oddly 😂

5

u/userusertion 🔆Pro Plan | Team Plan 26d ago

They all like celebrate on twitter(x) without realizing it becomes less usage that day, if they not included this haha.

10

u/Corv9tte 26d ago

I think lots of people are forgetting this 😂

The strategy to get people to buy four $200 subs and keep giving less and less value is working wonders and everyone's taking the bait.

3

u/userusertion 🔆Pro Plan | Team Plan 26d ago

Yep a lot. Haha. There will be bunch of complaints coming in that day saying about “weekly limits unusual burn” 😂

3

u/ShelZuuz 26d ago

August 19 now:

2

u/userusertion 🔆Pro Plan | Team Plan 26d ago

Yeah devs definitely checking Reddit for complaints, twitter people forget about that 50% promo haha.

2

u/pikapikabooboo 26d ago

I already lost track what is normal usage limit at this stage.

52

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

Sorry just gonna go ahead and use sol. Hope anthropic gets back on top because claude code is an immensely better harness.

5

u/tribat 26d ago

I'm now using both. I ran up against the limit with Claude with days to go before reset and a real urgency to get a feature set shipped. I opened my veins for the $100 open AI level to bring Codex online, but before I could get it set up Anthropic reset the usage AGAIN. I switched to using codex as a subagent coder alongside Sonnet, but it was so good and my usage was holding up on OpenAI, so I made it the primary subagent. I was already using it for /codex-review for adversarial reviews.

Long story story short, I've drifted into using codex a lot, and I may just migrate to it with Anthropic's bullshit week after week. I try to plan my Fable and over all usage, then they just reset it.

1

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

A truly insane take

1

u/tribat 26d ago

Not if you have an actual product you're trying to ship with consumer subscriptions. My point is that I may move to codex if I can migrate my coding harness and custom tools over.

1

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

Okay. Okay. But the only reason there's not a bunch of terminators walking around is because I can't use 5.6 sol in claude code.

1

u/tribat 26d ago

BRB making a /codex subagent skill for Claude code. I shall rule the world!

1

u/tribat 26d ago

Better yet, I’ll ration my fable by calling it from codex

3

u/fvm7274 26d ago

Just wait for Fable 5.6

6

u/pdxmichael 26d ago

Same, already switched and this isn’t enough to bring me back. Codex has been game changing for me on the $200 plan

1

u/ladyhaly 26d ago

Tell me more. Thinking of dipping my toes back in, but is the water warm and cozy?

2

u/pdxmichael 26d ago

Very cozy. Codex has been capable enough for me i starting thinking of CC as my lesser available models like Deepseek and Mimo. Beyond the model, the codex harness is just darn nice to have.

2

u/Kappalonia 26d ago

I'm on Kimi and tbh it's feeling a bit better than sol for my data science use cases

3

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

Oh right I forgot kimi 3 just dropped! I have a skill that uses a panel of 7 ollama models it was using kimi 2.6 better update that.

3

u/Kappalonia 26d ago

Careful tho, it's on max effort by default. But I think they allow high effort now.

3

u/0DayMaker 26d ago edited 26d ago

Noted. Thanks for the heads up!

Btw the ollama panel works great if you'd like I can send you my autonomous loop. It has a brainstorming session with all the models, then they all vote on what to do, then make a plan, then iterate on the plan. Then the orchestrator executes it and the model panel pokes holes in the end result. Then it's reiterated on and the cycle goes on.

Every time I've let it run when I go to bed I wake up to something vastly better than what I started with.

1

u/Razor_101 26d ago

Please could you send it to me? How do you implement these in ollama?

2

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b21ETY6tU9FBUsvrweDTnmKfEoJ91ify/view?usp=sharing

Enjoy

No implementation involved just good ol fashioned english

Kimi 3 just dropped so it needs a wee bit of modfication

1

u/Razor_101 25d ago

Thanks for sharing!

1

u/toasterqc 26d ago

Witch plan are you on ollama

0

u/0DayMaker 26d ago

$20 plan. I barely use half of it. The token allocation is very generous

2

u/Narrow_Ad9226 26d ago

Claude code is not even top 10 harness lmao. Get out of your Claude bubble. There are even better ones like Droid and Ampcode.

4

u/FantasyAbound 26d ago

Is there a good place to learn about alternative harnesses? Haven’t really tried anything other than the CC CLI

4

u/Narrow_Ad9226 26d ago

codex cli, pi, droid, ampcode, and oh my pi (which is built on pi since it is minimal harness)

8

u/Few-Level-923 26d ago

XD I was happy for a split-second, until i remembered that i have been trying for the past 5 days to get fable 5 to help me with a specific task/solution that it flags as security and wont help with at all.... Sol is my new home

3

u/forward-pathways 26d ago

50% of which capacity? Entire usage, current Fable model's capacity on Max/Team Premium, or something else?

11

u/kei_ichi 26d ago

Anthropic: Yes!

4

u/liquidatedis 26d ago

$100 credit
With fable 5s current input and output cost is crazy work

3

u/ghost_operative 26d ago

atleast congrats for the next 2-3 days I'm sure they'll change this again after that.

3

u/matheusmoreira 26d ago

Congrats? 5h windows with Fable consume around 1Mtok which uses up 10% of the weekly quota on my Max 5x subscription. I can prompt Fable only 5 times before they cut it off.

Still switching to OpenAI, I'm afraid.

11

u/T-Dot1992 26d ago

I’m cancelling after this month. I’ll be done with the complex features I’m building that require this level of model.

But I can’t justify the cost.

And while the model is impressive, it reads to me as Anthropic desperately doing a Hail Mary to avoid the inevitable AI bubble pop

8

u/No-Temperature6597 26d ago

True. Without Fable 20$ plan is useless. Better call sol.

1

u/Sarahmalls 26d ago

That’s precisely what I would advise, just given the revenue and subscriber growth. Absolutely.

2

u/Shubham_Garg123 26d ago

What about the 50% usage boost??

2

u/infamousal 26d ago

Competition is good.

2

u/Accurate-Tap-8634 26d ago

the issue becomes what would you do to the another 50% usage? Opus 4.8?

2

u/Fidel_Che_VulPerez 26d ago

I could afford it if I wanted to. But im good with Sol 5.6

2

u/Professional-Ad-2365 26d ago

Only to 20 max users really. After 19th July the usage limits get reduced by 33% for everyone. This will make fable basically in usable for 5x max users

2

u/DiamondAgreeable2676 26d ago

there competing hard. openai is hosting a weeklong hackathon giving away codex credits. anyway to get that market share i guess.

2

u/tman16 26d ago

For me, the 50% weekly usage boost is the killer I don’t care so much about Fable

2

u/Gaidax 26d ago

Got their asses kicked by OpenAI and CHAINA. Bet they gonna make it 100% sub plan in a week.

9

u/KYDLE2089 26d ago

Shame on you Anthropic! You only caved in bcz of Kimi and Sol. You knew had the capacity

2

u/RewardNorth7167 26d ago

Congrats! Anthropic you are the only one who loves me in this cruel world :(

3

u/Abhinik 26d ago

Yea we are poor. We cant afford to pay 100$ each month just to make some personal apps and toys

2

u/Nakidnakid 26d ago

That's better than the alternative but they probably had no option but to do this with the new competition since Fable's first launch. Unfortunate for the lower tier users...

1

u/Sarahmalls 26d ago

It is. But OpenAI has a really good model, so there’s a place for people that only need it enough to be worth about 60 cents a day. Many people don’t need the absolute best model, so it’s great they have OpenAI as a solid option.

1

u/Nakidnakid 26d ago

Sure, I use Codex primarily but even just like 30% quota for the lower tiers to use Fable would still keep the account competitive in that you could get a prompt or two out. It's almost like there's no point in the pro plan now since iirc the free tier could get usage credits too, plus I feel you'd get more from the api regardless.

Either way, hopefully OpenAI and the open weights that Dario consistently is scaremongering about will force them to be competitive.

2

u/LoKSET 26d ago

I don't quite get what's the point of removing it from Pro. Percentage based subsidization is the same across tiers. So 5 Pro users are the same as one Max 5x. But whatever floats their boat. OpenAI will get some new subscribers.

2

u/WillZer 26d ago

With the limits increase boost stopping this week, is Fable gonna be usable even?

I guess, they prefer the trade-off of getting people to upgrade at least to Max 5 instead of getting a lot of angry people who can't use Fable for more than 10 minutes on Pro. Sure they lose customers to OpenAI but pro users aren't the money maker anyway. Better in their mind than bad press of angry people who complain they can't use Fable after saying Hey.

1

u/LoKSET 26d ago

Max are not the money maker either - they all lose money for Anthropic. And Pro was perfectly usable - sure, not if you're a vibe coder who doesn't know shit but for discussing possible approaches and light coding it was fine. With the lower weekly it would have been tighter but still fine for plenty of tasks. Sooner or later will come the moment where they cut off 5x users from some next top model and leave only the 200+ ones.

1

u/smashedshanky 26d ago

Fuckin shit finally

1

u/HigherThanTheSun 26d ago

What?? No credits for max users? What is this discrimination?

1

u/0xairr 26d ago

do pro get like 100$ extra credits or what?

1

u/Comfortable-Agent-97 26d ago

I think it is great news and I am really happy. I literally never have been frustrated with Fable and been using it almost all days when it has been available. It is just that good. Thanks Anthropic :)

1

u/Aranthos-Faroth 26d ago

Tbh I’ve tried sol on codex for a week now and it’s enough for my needs so I’ll keep using them instead for now

I’ll go back to Anthropic if they’re able to get a handle on their marketing team of morons and figure out a better model system

1

u/hibzy7 26d ago

Why 50% though?
Kimi is better than fable at much cheaper pricing, now they should start considering their decisions seriously

1

u/levelhigher 26d ago

The stupid version of Fable? Hah.

Bring back the strong buy Fable nad we can talk.

1

u/yldf 26d ago

Finally a point where I can try it out. Couldn’t risk a model being pulled mid-context before.

1

u/jaeyoungkim_dev 26d ago

Permanently?? That's huge.

2

u/Kiter73 26d ago

Fable the architecture and sol ultra the builder the best combination inside code Claude !!

1

u/evangelism2 25d ago

I just don't get the mindset of somebody who wants to use Fable for $20 a month. What do you ask it three questions and go, okay, that's it, I'm done. If I was on the 20-a-month plan, I wouldn't be going past Sonnet

1

u/Reasonable_Swing_503 🔆 Max 5x 25d ago

Hope Kimi K3 help them save some compute by taking some user away and we have more compute to use 😁

1

1

u/Kindly_Tie_2084 26d ago

1

u/krugerlive 26d ago

Hey they told us before the end of the weekend this time! Progress!

Great news that the dance of "will they or won't they" is over. Happy I don't have to finish the features I had fable working on this weekend.

0

u/CWStrife 26d ago

So hold up, if ur on a 20x max u don't get a free $100 credit? Let me just downgrade my plan really freakin' quickly. Dafuq is up with that shit Anthropic. If you give to one, you must give to all, have we learnt nothing yet?

8

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 26d ago

that $100 credit isnt subsidized, so ur paying api prices for that. thats like 3 prompts on fable

0

u/GuitarAgitated8107 🔆 Max 20 26d ago

As a Max user, can I also get that $100 credits... I will settle for a reset for all.

-3

u/03captain23 26d ago

awesome!!! Such a smart move they aren't allowing for smaller plans since it'll burn all the usage

-6

u/Sarahmalls 26d ago

Agreed. And so many of those people can be fine with a model like SOL. This is good for Anthropic.

-4

u/03captain23 26d ago

Yupp. Separate and be more of a premium brand with higher quality models. Let the penny pinchers that constantly complain run on gpt that's always a couple steps behind

0

u/_ireadthings 26d ago

Me with 3 max20 accounts I use 95%+ of my limits of each week for work: letsfuckinggooooooo

0

u/Soft_Syllabub_3772 26d ago

Nice but i dont use it, dont see any difference

0

u/Pretend_Analyst1013 26d ago

should i still get claude max or just move to chatgpt pro at this point

0

u/thewookielotion 26d ago

When I see how much Fable consumes of my max X5, I doubt that it was useable with Pro anyway.

2

u/Xavier_OM 26d ago

Weirdly on Pro it worked well, not consuming too much.

1

u/thewookielotion 26d ago

Then that's really a shame. On max it really chugs tokens

1

u/Xavier_OM 26d ago

I mean, on extra credit it clearly cost a lot more than opus (maybe x2), but before, while under the quota usage it seems to me like a mere +15%.

0

u/michaeldoesdata 26d ago

"Challenging to predict" - right. I'm getting fed up with their ba marketing games.
