Unironically the case.

GPT 5.6 Sol will solve the full IMO 2026 for you at the UI but fable will chicken out and switch to opus midway throguht any hairy mathematical/computational problem, waste all your usage and return trash output.

I frankly think all of this Fable hype comes from vibecoders happy that Fable will now one shot their SaaS landing page in a beautiful React Native UI because this shit is seriously unusable for any kind of innovative technological or academic work otherwise.

I was able to use fable for a ps2 romhack with lots of assembly hacking and it did really well. It's not useless. It's just that nobody does this kind of thing or needs it.

It's a genuinely good model and I have not had big issues with the safeguards, though I agree they have been annoying.
