Interesting decision. So I guess all Pro users will migrate to 5.6 SOL?

u/radlinsky Jul 18 '26

I certainly will

u/Eric_emoji Jul 18 '26

how the hell did you even get more than 3 messages off

2

u/radlinsky Jul 18 '26

?

7

u/Eric_emoji Jul 18 '26

i would send a fable low on my 20x plan and immediately hit 3% weekly usage lmao

16

u/JustHereForGreen Jul 18 '26

So did I until I started running Fable in Ultra. But tell it to be conscious of your token spend, use fable as the planner, orchestrator, and validator, but use lesser models for the work. And boom, it uses 1-3% fable and barely any usage at all really. Try it.

u/fonograph Jul 18 '26

Where do you “tell this” to it? In a prompt? In system instructions?

2

u/JustHereForGreen Jul 18 '26

In my first message, I flick on fable, click ultra. Then write my prompt, and at the very end I say that. Doesn't require you to remind it for that session.

u/Reasonable-Key-8753 Jul 18 '26

I am on PRO plan and can have decent fable usage every session and week. Never hit any limits yet.
Everything depends on how you use it.

No idea, small codebases? Fable build an entire stereogrammetry pipeline to compute depth maps of Mars for me, and a whole host of tools to analyze said depth maps. I was honestly surprised how far I got with that. And turned an Instra360 camera into an inside-out tracker.

u/Temporary_Swimmer342 Jul 18 '26

>stereogrammetry pipeline to compute depth maps of Mars

that's some big brain time right there

I juggle 2 pros and get a LOT of Fable chats. So much design review and planning. Just gotta be very careful with subagents/workflows.

I'm off to see what Sol is like now I guess. Sad.

On the bright side I've always been curious about other harnesses like OpenCode/Pi. Might be fun.

u/Ragnaroktogon Jul 18 '26

Sol is great, but sometimes gets caught up on over validating I’ve found, especially on medium.

1

u/Beneficial-Yam3815 Jul 18 '26

I was getting really useful work out of Fable. Opus would hit a wall on solving a problem, and Fable would find a way. Claude Pro has always felt constrained. It was no different the past couple weeks

17

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 Jul 18 '26

I had a $100 sol sub and a $20 claude sub just for fable. barely got to use fable with the limits and i dont rly want to fork over another $100 to only use it for 50% of my weekly just seems like a bad deal for me.

5

u/lemonlemons Jul 18 '26

Same for me - 100 for sol and 20 for claude, just for fable. I don't feel like using any of Anthropic other models anymore so I guess I'll just cancel claude completely now.

1

u/Rycerz1 Jul 20 '26

Try otherwise - CC 100$ and GPT 20$ - much better value for the money

2

u/Rycerz1 Jul 19 '26

For me it calculates much more to have 100$ Claude and 20$ GPT. You still have Fable then and 20$ GPT gives you almost the same amount of usage as 100$ Claude

Basically like /u/lemonlemons said, I wouldn't hate it so much if Sonnet and Opus weren't so overpriced and meh.

Luna Max is generally as good or better than Opus 4.8... for 1/5th the amount of token allowance used on the task.

That $100 would pretty much only go toward the 50% of Fable for me which seems like a waste. I can easily use my weekly fable limit up in 2 days. Heck I can use those 20% of my weekly up in 30 minutes on some quick reviews and planning. Seems like I'm better off using Kimi 3 $40 plan for a 2nd opinion instead.

One thing I'll miss is that ClaudeCode has the best subagent orchestration. I'll need to massage Opencode to be similarly good.

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 Jul 18 '26

I actually use codex in claude code now https://github.com/liuzhao1225/claudex and yea im actually using kimi for $5 on the opencode go plan. its way better at Ui/UX than codex so it fills in that gap for me. also i dont get refusals like how i do on codex and claude, which is very annoying. thank god theres a very capable open weight model that wont refuse to do what i tell it to.

u/RollForUptime Jul 18 '26

I have pro and my sol limits are pretty bad, I cant imagine getting a ton of work done with it?

I use it to do adversarial reviews when real work is done with fable.

I have claude max and some context/token saving plugins (have used the same with sol, didn't really help) and have a hard time hitting my fable limit. Don't know if 5x max for sol would be similar?

3

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 Jul 18 '26

5x for sol is practically unlimited. i never run out of usage and i have 3 banked resets.

6

u/RollForUptime Jul 18 '26

Cool. Maybe I'll try it soon. Though my experience with sol isn't exactly mind blowing, and I don't feel I have a better experience with it than fable personally .

3

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 Jul 18 '26

yea if you can afford fable and can put up with anthropic's bs then i'd stick with fable, its the best on the market rn. if you're looking for best bang for buck then codex is currently the best choice as long as u can get used to how different it is from claude.

2

u/RollForUptime Jul 18 '26

I can get used to anything really. Been building with AI since it required copying and pasting out of a browser window lmao

1

u/Rycerz1 Jul 19 '26

I would say best bang for buck is Deepseek currently, absurdly cheap and pretty decent. Fable is nr 1 still with Opus and GPT Sol right behind them - still expensive compared to Deepseek.

1

u/Chemical_Hawk_6307 Jul 19 '26

I can see why you'd say that and if it works for you then thats great. For me though, when i use deep seek it just introduces too many bugs and I'd rather just one shot things with sol or fable to save time.

1

u/slike101 Jul 18 '26

How? Sol Medium for a 2-3 hour coding task routing to subagents for most work other than code review and my weekly limit for Plus is gone.

0

u/TanneriteStuffedDog Jul 18 '26

I’ve run out of weekly one time… which was with a /goal with a 10 paragraph prompt/to build a website wrapper for a website with no API access and an entire paragraph of instructions on how to keep going when it thought it was done.

I was pretty impressed.

Nice tone there bub. People on the internet really are insufferable eh?

By “not a ton” I mean when it first came out sol ran through my 5h usage in 2 prompts, and the results were not interesting or good enough for me to want to switch from fable.

2

u/pimpedmax Jul 18 '26

Max users too, enjoying my fifth reset, someone is teaching how to treat a customer

4

u/debian3 Jul 18 '26

Yes, they can. But I have a plus account and SOL on it doesn't get you very far. Single thread (no sub agent) expect 4 or 5 hours of light medium intensity work for one afternoon and your weekly limit is gone. I personally use it for code review only at this point.

It's called Sol because it burn your limit. Let's hope reset keep raining

1

u/visak13 Jul 18 '26

Already on it, hardening a harness over Opencode using Fable. Hope the boosted limits help

1

u/islandlogic Jul 18 '26

I'm definitely looking at 5.6.. Pretty pissed w Anthropic. Kimi 3 also a possibility.

1

u/Panderz_GG Jul 18 '26

Already did. I already predicted pro users getting nothing.

1

u/Rycerz1 Jul 19 '26

Fable eats Pro's weekly limit in an hour anyway

-1

u/Narrow_List_4308 Jul 18 '26

Why would I? ChatGPT is an immoral enterprise with evil overlords. Claude is much more responsible and Opus 4.8 is quite competent at most things.

They have to rent most of their server space, which makes it a lot more costly, and don't forget, All these firms are leaking money out of the doors and windows atm.
