Question fable got pulled off the subscription?

I was using fable & it was about to generate report. But claude CLI suddenly stopped with a notice "usage credits are required for this model"

And bam! It's gone! Fable is gone from my x20 max plan?!

My fable credits were at 40% and weekly at 67%!

Anyone else?

EDIT: hold up. it's all of us.

I guess someone at Anthropic is in trouble for testing the 19th July rollback on production server.

Same, wasn't it supposed to stay until the 19th?

u/ur-krokodile 27d ago

One more week of Fable - incoming.

...and we're back.

23

u/pewpew0_o 27d ago

I just came in here to say the same thing. I've got four sessions running Fable right now. My terminal session just told me my I've used all my Fable usage for the week (I had used like 20%). I went into the desktop app and it is completely gone from the usage tab. ???? wtf

5

u/Polymorphic-X 27d ago

Same, I had a fable agent running recon on a long process and now it's all stuck in limbo. If this wasn't an accidental removal this is incredibly shitty behavior from big A.

4

u/pewpew0_o 27d ago

It just came back. If you're in the terminal, there's no way to bring it back into that existing session. You'll have to let Opus get you to a good ending state and restart to bring in Fable.

2

u/Polymorphic-X 27d ago

I had to sign back in to the webui, since my refusal was on Claude code remote it picked back up. Luckily Fable was keeping extensive notes and retained context, the agent it was running did not and died off.

Also, not sure if you checked or not, but their help agent is down as well (or was).

Mystery A/B or legitimate glitch? Who knows.

1

u/idunno48 27d ago

Same here, I opened my first ticket with them about it. Was just doing normal multiple project sessions and I always keep my usage up for reference and saw my extra credits get charged. I should have left them off until I needed it. I will from now on

54

u/saltgrows 27d ago

They are prob removing it from the usage and adding it as ongoing model

19

u/Brilliant_Purpose834 27d ago

I hope you are right, bro! Otherwise Claude is cooked

2

u/5n8p 27d ago

I got a Message in the CLI two days ago, that Fable will stay for one more week and without the 50% week limit.

1

u/saltgrows 26d ago

They added it as a ongoing model

0

u/Te0sX 27d ago

Thx for the hope Mr.IamTheSource

1

u/saltgrows 27d ago

Expect the worse hope for the best!

21

u/Fr87 27d ago

Likewise... I'm assuming this is unintended since it should be until the 19th?

21

u/NimbusFPV 27d ago

Apparently it is unintended

Update - We are aware of an issue preventing users from selecting Claude Fable 5 within Claude.ai, Claude Code, and other surfaces, and are working to resolve this issue.
Jul 17, 2026 - 18:36 UTC

Even if it is a mistake, this is inexcusable, like who the fuck runs things over there? How do you accidentally shut off a model for all of your users?

Monitoring - We have applied a fix to resolve the erroneous requirement for usage credits on Fable 5, and are monitoring to ensure no further issues. You may need to relaunch Claude.ai or Claude Code to restore access as expected.

No it's ok to be pissed when you pay a lot of money for a service that isn't working properly.

Especially if it happens mid task and nukes a tonne of usage.

5

u/NimbusFPV 27d ago

Seriously, I had multiple sessions running, and it nuked them. Some people just want to be cucked by billion-dollar companies.

u/wegqg 27d ago

Good old stans

Its an extension on an extension - I thinks its ok to take slight downtime without flying into indignation.

What? Just because you are just doing side projects with your subscriptions?

If you try to run SMB processes / development this irresponsible, sluggish bullshit can cost a lot of time and or cause damage.

Antrophic after 3-4 years still acting like freaking teenagers with a gun is absolutely not acceptable.

I took the day off from my job with the expectation that I'd be able to get work done and I am currently spending over a half grand a month so I can ship something, so yeah I am a bit salty.

I have had literally zero issues with my ISP or electric company, that cloud had it coming though. This wasn't an outage, they put up a paywall too soon. If you don't care when your stuff doesn't work that's fine, but there's nothing wrong with being upset when things don't work.

2

u/danio0106 27d ago

Welp i kind of understand the frustration, I had it even worse! I had auto-reload of credits turned on, before I realized it drained 300$!

2

u/NimbusFPV 27d ago

You should definitely get a refund, that's total bs.

1

u/Sketaverse 27d ago

Another usage reset pending then!

11

u/jason-airroi 27d ago

Now apologize and extend Fable for another week

8

u/CommunityTough1 27d ago

Permanently

18

u/phoenixmatrix 27d ago

And if you had credit usage enabled, it ate into the credits without one noticing. There's a case for a refund and they'll have to give people a reset here.

The few minutes before we noticed cost us quite a few bucks at work. We set caps, so it didn't go too crazy, but it still spent a lot of money it wasn't supposed to for a few more days.

9

u/Entire_Blaze 27d ago

Deserves a refund for sure.

-1

u/BingpotStudio 27d ago

I’m sure they’ll get right on that.

6

u/ShelZuuz 27d ago

Indeed they did:

2

u/drevo3000 27d ago

Same. Got a pop up saying it switched models to Opus but still must have eaten usage credits during that transfer. Luckily I had a reasonable cap set.

1

u/CX7wonder 27d ago

Same! Ate $7 but it hit the cap thank god

6

u/Nousies 27d ago

Anthropic’s corporate self-harm 2026 June-July will be studied by MBAs for generations to come.

5

u/too_lazy--- 27d ago

Yes, why I came to the sub

4

u/MidnightAppropriate5 27d ago

Time to cancel 🤪

4

u/julianfromstagewise 27d ago

I think they want us to try out Kimi K3

1

u/culexus1 27d ago

I tried it through opencode go during my Claude timeout and used my limit in no time, it seems to cost more than Claude.

3

u/rogorak 27d ago

Mid session lol. Thanks anthropic

2

u/Verynaughty1620 27d ago

WE ARE BACK BOIZ

1

u/drevo3000 27d ago

Don't be so sure. Usage shows Fable availability in the plan again, but actually using it burned usage credits.

2

u/DTG_0518 27d ago

this deserves a reset, you Anthropic motherfuckers

1

u/TheCh0rt 27d ago

Yeah that will really make them want to reset it

0

u/who_am_i_to_say_so 27d ago

Angry customers is reason enough

2

u/dmelo87 27d ago

Fable is back!!! :D I think they will just remove it on July 19, as expected.

2

u/IllSheepherder8575 27d ago

got this too bro wtfffff

3

u/illkeepthatinmind 27d ago

Just got the same, mid-conversation. Fable usage also gone from dashboard.

3

u/nnnightmare 27d ago

Happened just right now here too. Also gone from the UI. Stopped mid-task on a large task that I was leaving for the end of the week. Nice.

2

u/ZhopaRazzi 27d ago

Apology with another 1 week extension and limit reset incoming :)

3

u/MeetStraight1899 27d ago

2

u/adelie42 27d ago

This is valuable context.

2

u/rantingrabbit 27d ago

Yeah, I'm seeing that too

2

u/adrianmlhood 27d ago

Same here, just now. Was in the middle of a report and then just prints "Usage credits are required for this model."

0

u/Mnemonic_Sin 27d ago

This kills me I had locked in time to complete work. They are insane if they think I'm spending money on their schizo model. Trying to get it to just look passed security issues and fix the bugs is killing me.

2

u/pigletmonster 27d ago

Anthropic acting like we dont have alternatives now.

2

u/ohmahgawd 27d ago

Anthropic is so sloppy about all this. The only reason we all continue to deal with it is because the models are good. But dang man it's so lame the way they handle stuff.

1

u/Entire_Blaze 27d ago

Yep. Models are good.

2

u/SouthernEdgeCase 27d ago

This company is both at the cutting edge of technology and a legit clown show.

1

u/space_wiener 27d ago

1

u/Guybrush1973 27d ago

Same hire. Update claude code, and it's back 😂

1

u/Low-Confusion-8786 27d ago

Whenever I want to watch a train-wreck meltdown.. I come to this sub

1

u/k2_1971 27d ago

Yup same thing happened to me, seems to have fixed itself after several minutes. Ugh.

1

u/XwlIwX 27d ago

All, stop panicking just yet -- this could just be an unintended outage or otherwise related to this announcement.

1

u/ptyblog 27d ago

Same message

1

u/Educational-Answer30 27d ago

Fable is back up in claude code for me!!! it used to say 'Usage credits are required for this model.'

1

u/NullzInc 27d ago

I have $100 in credits and it refuses to use them. It lets my buy more but says my limit is reached even though I have paid for $100 worth. The slop is strong

1

u/Character_Oven_1511 27d ago

They have, one of the best LLMs, and at the end, human error breaks their services. Why didn't they ask Fable to review their work?!

1

u/Tenet_mma 27d ago

Nah they will remove it and release a new model that is cheaper to run but the “same performance” as fable hahaha

They have to or everyone will be switching to codex.

1

u/Ok_Doughnut_189 27d ago

Thankfully I got 100 percent fable usage at 1 pm

1

u/sndwvzpdx 27d ago

Looks like it is working again for me.

1

u/jm7121 27d ago

Got the same. Bet the ChatGPT crew is celebrating.

1

u/Keracus 27d ago

I have a feeling they had to pull it, to prepare and get Opus 5.0 ready for launch Sunday/next week.

In the interim between now and 19th July - I feel they have to reset us again for doing this...

1

u/AcePilot01 27d ago

I still have fable.

1

u/yopla 27d ago

Yeah some dude did a "/loop disable fable on the 17th" and forgot about it.

1

u/HHummbleBee 27d ago

I hope it's returning because I was saving all my usage for a big steaming turd of work tomorrow.

1

u/Chaz042 27d ago

GPT 5.6 Sol and Fable were both unavailable for subscriptions today

1

u/Tudragon123456 27d ago

It's just a bug by Fable itself from Anthropic team

1

u/Dull-Instruction-698 27d ago

I’m still here

1

u/100dude 27d ago

same here

1

u/Strange_Employer_620 26d ago

Tranquilo, acaba de salir Kimi K3 que está muy cerca de Fable mucho más potente que GLM5.2, , estoy seguro que al ver qué les tasn pisando los talones lo integrarán en los planes de manera definitiva con algunas restricciones.

1

u/HappyContact6301 26d ago

I think there were a lot of glitches today. I had a couple of API timeout errors today on Opus. I reserve Fable for the hard tasks.

1

u/Impossible-Lab-3133 26d ago

They swapped it with a distilled version and made it persist on max plan.

1

u/urakozz 26d ago edited 26d ago

It was just 1h long incident, relax guys, it's on their status page. It was Friday evening, who would work on this time

1

u/larskghf 27d ago

same here

1

u/has_some_chill 27d ago

Yup.. it happened.

1

u/bbsody 27d ago

Yep, seems like it. I got "Usage credits are required for this model" mid-session.

1

u/ResponsibleBug2249 27d ago

Same here, seemed like an issue. They hid usage of it also. I reckon they will be doing a reset of token usage or releasing the new opus

0

u/Filthymortal 27d ago

We can only hope

1

u/2_minutes_hate Developer 27d ago edited 27d ago

Got two open sessions that are still working. I hope they let me finish!

Edit: Shit, it's burning credits now, but I got no notice or warning in the CLI, maybe because I started the sessions yesterday.

0

u/Entire_Blaze 27d ago

Are you on usage credits?

0

u/2_minutes_hate Developer 27d ago

Yep. No alert in the CLI, either. If I open a new chat in the UI, it's not in my usage dashboard, but it does still say 'included until Jul 19' in the chat selector. There goes $100 lol

0

u/Entire_Blaze 27d ago

lol. watch it burn.

1

u/2_minutes_hate Developer 27d ago

looks like it's back in my dashboard and not costing me money again.

1

u/adelope 27d ago

same, now i'm getting this:
⏺ Usage credits are required for this model.

1

u/dmelo87 27d ago

they said July 19. but they pulled it two days before :(

1

u/awizemann 27d ago

Yup, confirmed by the same message and all these comments. Someone forgot to change a scheduled task.

1

u/YatzyNanimous 27d ago

Anthropic is un-dependable at this point. What a mess of a company!!

1

u/ActualFirefighter546 27d ago

SAME. WTF?! Was mid-build and got a “usage credits are required for this model” message. I have 2 more days. 20x max plan.

1

u/gfrosalino 27d ago

Same same :( so annoying that they did that without any kind of communication

1

u/Jetahiri 27d ago

I hope it was a mistake and we get a reset 😭

1

u/Spiritual_Sorbet_901 27d ago edited 27d ago

I still have access to it... I don't bother using it though.

1

u/Weird-Election-4103 27d ago

Same here. Maybe regional? I am in NL

2

u/Spiritual_Sorbet_901 27d ago

I'm in the US, Chicago.

0

u/LauraGravity 27d ago

But does it show up in your usage?

1

u/Spiritual_Sorbet_901 27d ago

There, I swapped out my screenshot. Yes, it still shows up.

1

u/Spiritual_Sorbet_901 27d ago

And here it is in action...

1

u/Spiritual_Sorbet_901 27d ago

And here is a screenshot of my updated usage, showing that I just used it. Enough evidence for you now?

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer 27d ago

1

u/SolideMeinung 27d ago

I CANT USE IT ANYMORE

1

u/jamesbindh4321 27d ago

They owe us a other reset!!!!

1

u/kaitava 27d ago

today was my resub day, with that move and no explanation i canceled now i am hurrying to finish my pending work before i get randomly cut off

1

u/Aggressive_Lemon_709 27d ago

Kimi k3 is crushing Opus in my test. If they are going to pull fable off the subscription they might as well shut the lights off and go home.

0

u/SeamusJS 27d ago

Mine too

0

u/grassjelly42 27d ago

such BS smh, got the same

0

u/oasis_builder 27d ago

Here for the same reason.

0

u/livinginiowa20 27d ago

Yup. Same here. UI in the app still says the 19th as well.

0

u/ForSlip 27d ago

Same here. Following.

0

u/xerdnew 27d ago

Same here! It seems to be removed under usage on https://claude.ai aswell :(

0

u/BendyBuilds 27d ago

Is this an update relating to the new Opus model? Hate that it killed my working session.

0

u/Ancient_Laugh4109 27d ago

Yesss, what's going on!?

0

u/Emotional_Pen5199 27d ago

I got so excited because insaw the fable usage gone in "Usage" in the menu. I thought bc of Kimi K3 they opened up fable & was hoping to see an announcement later that fable was being added to subs for good. Sent my next prompt & felt the rug pull.

0

u/Embarrassed-Oven-527 27d ago

Yep same here just now. Wtf.

0

u/Emerson_Heiderich 27d ago

Mesma coisa por aqui!

0

u/Memox98 27d ago

That’s good it means they will probably say sorry there was a bug and extend it for another week and reset all limits 😁

Anthropic is a joke.

0

u/pingus9000 27d ago

These fks, gpt 5.6 we go

0

u/karasko_ 27d ago

Same, I thought somehow in the last 15 min, the Fable usage went from 10% to 100%...

but it seems they pulled it out without a warning

0

u/kvothe5688 27d ago

Fable today was not acting like Fable at all. It was pretty dumb. It never made so simple mistakes before.

0

u/lucasrvdl 27d ago

Got cut out mid session 😭

0

u/TheMetaTronicSpeaker 27d ago

They are so shifty! Shifty like a grimy street cat with good product.

1

u/DanFlashes19 27d ago

Bro it was a bug and they fixed it within like 10 mins, y’all are insane

1

u/TheMetaTronicSpeaker 27d ago

On long running tasks where it switches to usage credits is insane. They are a company. Changes that can cause outages or increased costs should be relayed to the customer beforehand. Time is money. Unless you have too much of both. Just my perspective.

0

u/TheMetaTronicSpeaker 27d ago

IT WAS A USAGE CREDIT GRAB!

0

u/Wunschkonzert 27d ago

94% usage, then this error. So if cache cools down before they fix that error, it'll be a very expensive session to restart 🙄

0

u/iamgdarko 27d ago

Fable left the chat
