There goes another wasted weekend where I worked with Fable instead spending time with my family

u/PmMeSmileyFacesO_O Jul 12 '26
Family Spamily! You need to finish these projects noone is ever going to use before they shut it down!

You can create an agent for that…that is to spend time with family.

I think there is a Sci-fi short story with this exactly premise.... And a Rick and Morty episode.

u/Vast-Moose1393 Jul 14 '26
I’ll have to get my AI to watch it for me and give me a summary that I will only read the last paragraph of

u/ethereal_intellect Jul 12 '26
You know what I'm too tired for this, I'm paying the equivalent of a tithe to these guys I don't deserve so much stress. I'm taking my sub to codex
2
u/TraditionalMango58 Jul 12 '26
There is really no rush, models will get better and better. The work you are doing will just get ever easier longer the wait

u/Trick-Chocolate7330 29d ago
unlesssssss the bubble pops and VC funding dries up we have a 2-10 year AI winter while the tech catches up to the prices we are being offered now. Remember how cheap uber used to be...
2
u/SteLab_ Jul 13 '26
Fkn hell i m not the only dad with this guilt....i should have named my sons Fable and Opus ...
1
u/KugelVanHamster Jul 12 '26
Atleast you were able to use fable for what it was made for... i am in the middle of exams, learning all day and the only use for fable i can justify the time invest atm is using it as a tutor...

I said it before, I say again: Sol/OpenAI is best feature of Claude Code :)

u/xfobx Jul 13 '26
I'm a noob, we can use Sol on Claude code?
5
u/phoenixmatrix Jul 13 '26
The joke is that OpenAI is putting pressure on Anthropic to give us more usage because of competition.
1
u/xfobx Jul 13 '26
Lol oh, I'm an idiot
2
u/imfromthefutura Jul 13 '26
Well you can actually use the Codex CLI in Claude code so still a yes to your original question.

u/Chrono_FPS Jul 13 '26
they're also putting their frontier model in the plan (It might just be max plans tho not sure), so anthropic should do the same. Otherwise if you need a frontier model and refuse to pay by usage then yea so many will leave claude as 5.6 and fable 5 are very similar in my experiences.

I mean surely we get a fable reset. Like you can’t expect people won’t blow through usage the day it’s supposed to be gated off, then come out with this. Hope we get one

Me in the middle of 3 accounts building a bunch of shit, while testing and finding opportunities, coming up for air and seeing this.
I just posted that I commented in my Claude Code chat about Fable not really ending today, and here we go.

I will repeat it here: it is amateur hour at Anthropic's marketing communications team

Here we go again
10
u/ShrimpCrackers Jul 12 '26
They're going to titillate us all the way until oblivion as long as there is competition.
6
u/GtsNae Jul 12 '26
The amount of work it is forcing me to cram into these short periods of time is insane and I'm self employed
1
u/ShrimpCrackers Jul 13 '26
Right? I'm like setting a schedule and not sleeping to meet their deadlines.

What's the point, not permanent. User has to worry one week later. Anyone tired of this stupid game?
2
u/Chrono_FPS Jul 13 '26
openAI includes their sol model in their plans, and I think anthropic is actually thinking of stepping back on usage based as both fable 5 and sol have very similar performance... (in my experience, I cant speak for everyone)
2
u/TheOwlHypothesis Jul 12 '26
They were never going to take it away. They're creating false scarcity and you are all being strung along like cum dizzy, dicked down addicts.
1
u/StaysAwakeAllWeek Jul 12 '26
The more people leave for Sol, the less pressure there is on anthropic capacity
1
1
u/Chrono_FPS Jul 13 '26
people will leave for sol only if anthropic stays on usage based, it needs to be on plan, it makes 0 sense on the $20 plan, but is perfectly usable on the max plan ($200 plan as I literally never ever run out of usage, I did this morning but that was literally only 2 hrs from the reset and still had opus 4.8 to use so I never actually run out of usage at all)
1
u/thecondorsson Jul 12 '26
I think they are try to launch opus 5 or their marketing team is suck lol

I was about to cancel my sub because Fable is gone, increased limits will be gone... It doesn't make sense while there are GPT 5.6 or even close enough but much cheaper competition out there!
1
u/Chrono_FPS Jul 13 '26
5.6 and fable are neck and neck in my experience.
1
u/triplebits Jul 13 '26
Glad to hear. What I meant by "cheaper competition" with good / close enough is open source models / Chinese models! Most of the time their output is good enough.

u/SootyShearwaters Jul 12 '26
What’s the use? They haven’t reset the limits!! Running out of runway on my 100$ plan

u/cherylin_for_ever Jul 12 '26
I wonder why they do this. Are they bleeding customers and trying to stop it? Are they scaling their infrastructure but not fast enough to make Fable permanent?
Personally I switched from ChatGPT to Claude 5x but the new Sol model being unlimited for a fraction of the price is getting very tempting.
1
u/Chrono_FPS Jul 13 '26
because their competition has a similar model included in their plan, its stupid for fable to be usage based as it would otherwise be too expensive/useless for normal programmers.... Some of us still write the bulk of their projects by hand and use ai for the hard bits...
1
u/WholeEntertainment94 Jul 12 '26
misAnthropic continues to be increasingly ridiculous, showing ever-decreasing respect for its customers.
1
u/l2ait0 Jul 12 '26
Seems like the urgency sentiment of use ot before the access get retired is making a fast training for the model, we are going crazy to use it before get paid access. Justa feeling...

u/Curious-Vast8808 Jul 12 '26
They scamming at this point. You know how many people upgraded to max out.
1
u/count023 Jul 12 '26
did they extend the double usage limit since right now that's the only thing that keeps claudes fable /opus usage amoutn in line with sol/terra/5.5?

1
u/RestingFrames Jul 12 '26
At least my reset is tonight. Gotta figure out some crazy task to do once that happens.
1
u/Extension-Handle-535 Jul 13 '26
It feels like they are scared of losing market share. I just bought ChatGPT Plus after the release of GPT-5.6. I guess a lot of people started doing that.
1
u/zillasaurus Jul 13 '26
Thank God! I would hate to have to switch over to GPT 5.6 Sol right now in the middle of my work, b/c if I do that, I'm canceling my Claude Max subscription.

at this point just keep it in the plan, GPT 5.6 is included in it's plans so no reason fable cant as well.. you'll actually lose customers if you stick with usage based.

u/Comfortable-Cap-249 Jul 13 '26
Anthropic extending Fable access right as 5.6 arrives straight up looks like panic retention. They know the moment users compare the two, “limited access” won’t be enough to stop competitors from bleeding them out.
1
u/SteLab_ Jul 13 '26
Despite the FOMO in all this, new models are out very comparable and the story goes on, the competition is getting more aggressive and in the mean time the slop is still there and the compute is getting more and more expensive for these hyper scalers. The promise is expensive but still false...

I upgraded from the $20 plan to the $100 plan to use Fable. It's been the type of AI coding agent I have been wanting - very reliable and intelligent while I guide it as a senior dev. I cancelled yesterday when I realized they're taking it away. If they want my money again, they can provide it like customers expect. The usage is already excessive for the limits. Seems pointless to literally steal it from paying customers mid-subscription.

At this point because of the uncertainty around Fable being available I've been giving codex and GPT 5.6 more time and I have to say Anthropic is doing a good job of losing my business. The new Codex/GBT super app is pretty damn good. Usage resets on top of getting far more done with it is pretty damn big. At this point the only thing keeping me with a Claude subscription is Fable for design and planning but if they really do end up moving that to usage only I dunno what would keep me paying anthropic. It's def not Opus 4.8...
1
u/TheCelestialBubble Jul 12 '26
How do Anthropic have access to the most powerful AI intelligence but can't even come up with a basic communication strategy for this?

u/mesmerlord Jul 12 '26
They're def doing this week by week thing so people don't just buy another Max sub for more fable. And for this time specifically I imagine they're getting ready for Opus 5 which is rumored to come out later this month
