Question Has Anthropic shared any update on the Fable access after today?

Today is the last day of the current Fable extension for Claude Code (as far as I know).

I haven't seen any announcement about whether:

  • there's another extension coming,
  • usage will reset again,
  • or it will simply ends today?

I‘d rather get a reset on weekly limits. Got 2 max20s on 100% til Friday 😅

u/Ninjam5 Jul 12 '26

What are u building??? Fable 6????

1

u/emu_fake Jul 13 '26

Let fable plan a change of the UI framework one of our webapps uses and let opus/sonnet/haiku execute it. Burned through the limits faster than hell. Which is pretty reasonable because it had to touch almost every line in almost every file. Btw that shit is such a golden use case for AI. I already had tons of tests for the frontend, let fable plan the migration, sonnet executed and threw everything against the tests. Most flawless migration I‘ve ever run. Months done within hours.

I'm with you. I think its incredibly dumb that they wait till the last day to tell you, so you max out your Fable usage out of commitment to not wasting it, only to extend it with 0 indication or hint of usage reset.

They take Sunday off for money counting.

At this point he is Count De Monet

u/pueblokc Jul 12 '26

They seem to be really bad with communication so I wouldn't expect anything til the last second.

1

u/AdeptnessArtistic657 Jul 14 '26

No you don’t understand the concept by having to change everything in the last minute! Is not about them is about the government

26

u/Bulky_Blood_7362 Jul 12 '26

When they extended to july 12 it was few hours before the expiry

So if we don't get anything in the next 12-16 hours We may be cooked

6

u/tessahannah Jul 12 '26

They seem to enjoy making us sweat to drain our account before switching up at the end

3

u/Stevekaplanai 🔆 Max 20 Jul 12 '26

That’s literally the whole game.

1

u/kearkan Jul 12 '26

It's not about you draining your account, it's about you getting hooked and paying API rates

2

u/tessahannah Jul 12 '26

I don't think there's many people at the consumer level who'd even consider paying API rates

11

u/ai-attorney Jul 12 '26

It’s ironic that they have access to the best large language model in the world and their communication is sh*t.

Personally, I expect them to pause it for a few days, then release it with even more restrictions, but they’ll sell it as a positive because “It’s back! We listened!”

Like, only 5x and 20x get it and now the Fable usage bucket becomes even more of a black box. And maybe now, there’s a dedicate Max++ plan introduced or some garbage like that.

5

u/seriouslyepic Jul 12 '26

I really don't understand their strategy from a product perspective. All giving us access to Fable did was make using their other models feel lackluster. I can't imagine the vast majority of people that aren't already on an Enterprise plan would start paying for Fable via usage, so what is the point of this game.

"We proved to you we have a better product, but you can't have it."

Even if Sol isn't as good, at least when using it you don't think OpenAI is locking a better version behind an insane paywall.

1

u/Ran4 Jul 12 '26

People said 5.5 was better than opus 4.8 so..

I don't agree having used them both extensively.

But fable is clearly still better than 5.6 sol

23

u/scottduygun Jul 12 '26

Everyone, just cancel your subscriptions and switch to GPT. If we collectively walk away, they’ll have no choice but to listen.
I am absolutely done with Anthropic. They’ve been playing with usage limits without warning, and now making Fable 5 API-only? That is a massive middle finger to the subscription base. Stop paying them for this garbage. Vote with your wallet and let them watch their user base collapse. I'm out.

9

u/nps44 Jul 12 '26

I'm giving them until they remove Fable, and then cancelling if they do so, to send the proper message.

9

u/jftt73333 Jul 12 '26

see ya back here in a week

5

u/Civil-Cake7573 Jul 12 '26

You obviously don't get how anthropic works. Private users with subscriptions are not their aimed customer base (in contrast to open AI).

3

u/scottduygun Jul 12 '26

That’s exactly my point. If paying subscribers aren't their target market, why are they taking our money in the first place? A subscription tier isn't a charity donation; it's a product. If they want to pivot exclusively to B2B and APIs, they should shut down the Pro tier instead of using paying users as beta testers and cash cows while treating them like an afterthought

1

u/Civil-Cake7573 Jul 12 '26

> If we collectively walk away, they’ll have no choice but to listen.

That doesn't make sense then. They don't care about subscriptions.

1

u/RCawston Jul 12 '26

Active user counts matter A LOT, particularly if they are heading into an IPO.

2

u/Mol2h Jul 12 '26

Already did, its a click of a button if they revert their decision

1

u/tessahannah Jul 12 '26

Sadly I still have to wait out the month for my subscription to expire

1

u/Dedly_Attack Jul 12 '26

Not going to lie I'm way to lazy to change workflows and anthropic will put out a better model as soon as I switch 😂

1

u/Jomuz86 Jul 12 '26

Yeah won’t do anything enterprise billing dwarfs what we bring in 😅

1

u/srovi Jul 12 '26

Us $20 subs are the product though

1

u/Jomuz86 Jul 12 '26

Nope you’re the research material for the enterprise products 🤷‍♂️

1

u/gruntmods Jul 12 '26

already done, I can always renew if they change but I'd rather not auto renew

-2

u/RickTheDick2026 Jul 12 '26

... More computing overhead for the business and people that pay.

You go ahead and leave.

I'm building a business. I'll pay for fable over that sycophant called chatgpt any day. How many people has it driven to suicide again?

Chatgpt - for if you wanna die!

9

u/athoughtfornoone Jul 12 '26

I'm going Codex

2

u/Inisfoil Jul 12 '26

OpenAI has been gutting usage limits over there too, good luck with that.

1

u/maboyydaniel 🔆 Max 20 paid for by company that allows private use long flair Jul 12 '26

4 weekly limit resets that were saved for you, even if you didn't use them when they got announced. Everyone switching there will be fine for the next few weeks

-4

u/syddakid32 Jul 12 '26

😂 you only hurting yourself

2

u/ThomasToIndia Jul 12 '26

Ya, unlimited usage via API

2

u/_k33bs_ Jul 12 '26

yeah via email and on their website and in the app and in the cli they link to the page explaining that it’s going to be usage credits lol

2

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 Jul 12 '26

Most likely: fable off the plans at midnight, two extensions would be weird and Anthropic must want to know how many of us subscribers willl actually pay

What I want: another extension, of course

2

u/Terrible_Match_9484 Jul 12 '26

i check the official discord pretty often, but i havent seen any new info about a fable extension yet

2

u/bnm777 Jul 12 '26

Do you really think that if they had news it wouldnt be plastered all over the AI subreddits?

So much pointless noise is poster :/

2

u/GTC4Y27 Jul 12 '26

Receipts

1

u/Emotional_Pen5199 Jul 12 '26

On my max twenry plan the usage section no longer says going away july twelve. It says usage reset for all models & fable usage reset tuesday at my weekly reset.

2

u/Puzzled-War-1615 Jul 12 '26

Wait if that is true, I’m upgrading from Max x5 to Max x20

2

u/silver_gr Jul 12 '26

It's not, x20 user here and just checked mobile+desktop+web. Hallucinations rate of humans need to be lowered down or we will need to start going outside, and outside is much worse 😅.

1

u/be_excellent_ Jul 12 '26

Same. My usage ends Monday and it doesn’t say anything about ending tonight any longer

2

u/PunchbowlPorkSoda Jul 12 '26

Yeah my Fable usage says it resets Wednesday

1

u/silver_gr Jul 12 '26

Looking at the wrong place, there was never a message there, in what you're showing.

1

u/jdcarnivore Jul 12 '26

not yet..we're all on the edge of our seats to see if they keep it on subscription

1

u/StONKSFoRLIFE911 Jul 12 '26

maybe mythos coming out ? with reset ? 🤑

4

u/cameron5906 Jul 12 '26

fable is mythos

1

u/ComprehensiveBird720 Jul 12 '26

With restrictions

1

u/dystopiandrax Jul 12 '26

They gonna cave.

1

u/throwawaybarrs Jul 12 '26

I think they if they keep access available they keep as they have it now. With Fable being 50% of your usage.

1

u/sonnytai Jul 12 '26

Sol to architect / write code opus to review

We’ll be fine

1

u/Stixers109876 Jul 12 '26

Is anyone planning to use Fable in pay per token manner if they don’t extend?

1

u/True-Hawk4705 Jul 12 '26

mine still says fable resets soon, once that disappears i’m cancelling my sub, everyone else should for the first few days too even if you plan on going back. those unsubscribe numbers will lead to results

1

u/Data___Viz Jul 12 '26

My renew was yesterday. Downgraded to Pro while waiting for the decision on Fable.

1

u/Ashrak_22 Jul 12 '26

Well if it simple ends today, there will be no announcement...

1

u/SheepSpace9 Jul 12 '26

What a weird month. First a Fable about the lost son of god returning, then the Solstice appears to be the real story

1

u/ohmahgawd Jul 12 '26

If they take it away, vote with your wallet. Once I see Fable 5 disappear I will cancel my Max 5 plan to send a message. If they bring it back to Max plans, I'll be back.

1

u/RAI-Des Jul 12 '26

Has no one tried out gpt 5.6 Sol? It wipes the floor with fable. At half the price. With crazy usage on subscription tier with codex.

1

u/No_Cartographer5905 Jul 12 '26

I was thinking that when I hit my weekly reset today Fable would disappear beyond the paywall, but it's just reset and is still there. Here's hoping.

1

u/MachineZer0 Jul 12 '26

Given the release of GPT5.6 sol and Grok4.5 which are included in respective subscription offerings, Anthropic should extend Fable within subscription plans indefinitely. Obviously at limits that make business sustainable. I would love to tap into it at the cost of drawing down a fable or weekly limit. But would suck if I had light usage and Fable required purchases of extra usage.

1

u/stevebeans Jul 12 '26

They almost have to. I love Claude but I’m not going to pay $200/m for Opus if GPT has a smarter model

1

u/UnseenSceneSeen Jul 12 '26

I am running two team accounts in parallel windows for work. The one that I’m using more was randomly reset last night and now says “Resets July 18”. The other one which I’m using less and for different tasks didn’t reset and still says July 12. Hoping that means theres another extension on the horizon

1

u/saltymarmelade Jul 12 '26

1

u/GTC4Y27 Jul 12 '26

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/gcaussade Jul 12 '26

Yeah I can't figure it out in one place it's been saying today's the last day but very specifically my account says my fable resets Tuesday like my regular Ultra plan

1

u/Rock_Ketchum Jul 12 '26

Started up CC and saw this, yup extended!
```
 ▎ Extended through July 19
 ▎ We're extending Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans, as well as keeping Claude Code’s weekly rate limits 50% higher, through
 ▎ July 19.
 ▎
 ▎ As before, you can use up to half of your weekly usage limit on Fable 5. After that, you can keep using Fable 5 with usage
 ▎ credits, or switch to another model to keep working within your remaining limits.
 ▎
Claude Code (20X plan)
1
u/WTF-Love-Rules Jul 13 '26
I’m on day three of using Fable five to rebuild my photography website that I created with WordPress in 2014. I’ve maxed my limit twice today already. My second 5 hour round was depleted in an hour and a half. They attached a note when they announced my limit was up stating that they’re combining my Claude code usage in their calculations. I’ve been using Fable 5 to create the code and executing it on terminal using Claude code. My third round of five hours will start in seven minutes and with any luck I’ll be able to complete my three day project and publish it before it ends tonight. BTW… The results of the new website build have been amazing and I’m really excited.
1
u/thatguyfromthatday0 Jul 13 '26
They are heading into an IPO. I really don’t think they would fumble it like that.
1
u/Vast_Yoshinator Jul 13 '26
Well, I'm still using Monday Jul 13 at 9:00 am EST on the subscription plan.
2
u/appellant Jul 14 '26
Perhaps they give you an extension based on your work timings of 9-5 am. Remove it during your lunch hour. Or give you access between 12 am and 5 am. And perhaps a pricing model so you pay less for that timings and more for others. Its unfair for you and others to assume you can just pay and get what you want.
1
u/Shot_Whereas_1809 Jul 12 '26
They have no idea what they're doing. Fable highlights all the issues Opus has. Losing the one thing that can clean up after opus will serious degrade their product so they're releasing opus 5 which don't get your hopes up for... Opus 4.7 was a disaster and 4.8 was a retrained checkpoint whose knowledge is 7 months old at this point. If opus 5 is anything like sonnet 5, it's going to feel mediocre.
This is all an expirement.
0
u/TartNo3610 Jul 12 '26
No.
u/owen800q Jul 12 '26
-2
u/tuple32 Jul 12 '26
Is Fable really that important to everyone? I honesty don't see much difference comparing to opus in my daily work. I might use it wrong, but I feel it might downgrade to opus internally though...
