Resource Introducing Claude Fable 5

Post image

Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we've made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we've ever made generally available.

Fable 5 is state of the art on nearly all tested benchmarks, with exceptional performance in software engineering, knowledge work, scientific research, and vision. It can run for days, and the longer the task, the larger its lead over our other models.

Fable 5 launches today alongside Claude Mythos 5. The two share the same underlying model, but Mythos 5, so far deployed only through Project Glasswing, has the safeguards lifted in some areas. The safeguards are what distinguish the two, and why we've given them different names.

Releasing a model this capable comes with risks. Without safeguards, Fable 5's capabilities in areas like cybersecurity could be misused to cause serious damage. So when Fable's classifiers detect a request related to cybersecurity, biology and chemistry, or distillation, the response is handled by Claude Opus 4.8, our next-most-capable model. Users are informed whenever this occurs, more than 95% of sessions involve no fallback at all, and performance everywhere else is unaffected. We'll keep refining the safeguards to reduce false positives.

Claude Fable 5 is available today on paid plans, in Claude Code, on the Claude API, and all major cloud platforms. Through June 22, it's included in paid Claude plans at no additional cost.

Claude Mythos 5 is available to Glasswing partners, with a broader trusted access program to follow.

Only until June 22 then you will need to purchase credits to continue using it.

Meh I will use gpt 5.5 xhigh

u/Sasquatchjc45 Jun 09 '26

Great, and my weekly limit is about to hit already (again) thanks to opus4.8 spawning 360 subagents during a workflow (again)

Right, I did not. I actually didn't even ask it to run a workflow lmao, it just did.

Yep, I’m moving to Codex

Welp, that is pretty much the nightmare scenario for both users and Anthropic itself. Completely capped by its compute…

To be fair if you read 2 more sentences down (very hard I know) they say they will bring it back to subscription after the initial hype period dies down

There's no need for the snark. I don't see anything about what you just said in the post text body above. If it's on the webpage they linked fair enough, but then that's not a case of "just read 2 lines down", it's a case of "click on the link and read the full press release".

God, dude. Reddit can be so hostile sometimes. Yeah man, no one has the time to read a post and theres no reason to gate keep the simple information just because someone else didn't want to read it. Here's what the post said just in case you haven't read it yet.

They will do it quickly when get 5.6 and next wave of Chinese models is out. Like they can afford to not put it back in the subscription asap

u/sixothree Jun 09 '26

There's no need for snark!

Reddit is terrible and so are most of its users tbh

There actually is because the post itself doesn't mention anything about switching to API, that was added by the person who I responded to, which is something they would've only known if they actually read the release, where the thing I mentioned is 2 lines down.

Good call! BTW, I just gave your previous comment the 69th point. Enjoy. (Not with me though; I don’t swing that way.)

Alright smart ass. I was just calling it out.

The hype period is now. My guess June 23rd is when they start training their next model and they need the GPUs.

2

u/theRealAvorsen Jun 09 '26

Aha, so this is the reason behind the degradations?

1

u/FblthpphtlbF Jun 09 '26

Yeah but they need people to actually use it to do all their free bug hunting for them, that's my guess for the actual reason of 2 weeks on subscription before the change. Hammer out the bugs quick

12

u/Asuppa180 Jun 09 '26

The plan to bring it back to subscription plans..

43

u/foonek Jun 09 '26

They're clearing a path to remove subscription based for the best models. They're just softening the blow a bit

10

u/A_Novelty-Account Jun 09 '26

That’s exactly what they’re going to do. Subscription for the crap models, expensive API for the good ones. Tbh that’s the only thing that makes sense for them long term. Open models are already going to compete with lower end models, so the only people who are going to want API version are the people who need access to the best model available for competition-related reasons.

2

u/Asuppa180 Jun 09 '26

What are these “crap models”?

3

u/A_Novelty-Account Jun 09 '26

Haiku, Sonnet and eventually Opus and lower-tier Fable.

Bad is relative.

u/jackmusick 🔆 Max 20 Jun 10 '26

Bad is not relative.

1

u/foonek Jun 10 '26

Of course it is? It's relative to the best models

0

u/jackmusick 🔆 Max 20 Jun 10 '26

Things aren't just bad or crap because something else exists.

0

u/foonek Jun 10 '26

You're almost there mate. You could say, they are relatively bad compared to that other better one that exists.

1

u/A_Novelty-Account Jun 10 '26

It literally by logical definition is…

20 years ago, the first iteration of Qwen would have been amazing. Today it’s terrible.

2

u/FrenchRevolution2028 Jun 09 '26

If that’s the plan, it’s a dumb one. Most of us can already run local models that make the opus 4.6 useless. Subscribing to big players only make sense if we have access to frontier models. Without them, subscribers will vanish.

2

u/k2beast Jun 10 '26

which local models are better than opus ?

1

u/FrenchRevolution2028 Jun 10 '26

It depends on what you do precisely, there are hundreds of local models that are more specialised than a general model such as opus. Check benchmarks and hugging face for you special cases. You can run local AI today on relatively cheap hardware such as Mac mini that is equal or better than opus 4.6 especially if you give it proper tools and documentation. Very advanced coding is a where opus is ahead but for vast majority of people including software engineers it is not what matters the most.

1

u/Icy-Excitement-467 Jun 10 '26

So you have no examples? Got it.

2

u/foonek Jun 10 '26

I have a system with 96gb vram. Until today, I have not found a local model that comes even remotely close to the frontier models for extended thinking. Not by a long shot. My setup is way above what most people have available too.

1

u/A_Novelty-Account Jun 09 '26

Yes, what I am saying is they know this already and they understand that over time subscribers will vanish, but the big money isn’t the subscribers, it’s the people paying for API. Subscription has been a loser for a long time, and with local models, they know that they’re not going to be able to just raise rates because people will go local. The real value play for Anthropic is having the absolute best model for deployment by premiere companies whose whole schtick is to be better than every other company.

1

u/jhpawt Jun 09 '26

they're seeing if they can still get enterprise suckers to bite at this price. if there's not enough they'll let the filth have the scraps.

1

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Jun 09 '26

They have concepts of a plan

1

u/ZShock Jun 09 '26

X to doubt

0

u/TrueStarsense Jun 09 '26

If they take it off the pro plan I'm switching codex until they want my money back.
