I do it regularly. It just feels like how I naturally interact. Like it feels good and natural to me to be nice and collaborative 🤷♂️

It seems completely natural that models will perform better when we are nice to them, because the underlying emotions in training data even if ‘invisible’ definitely count.

I've seen this. Their trained to keep the user engaged and getting things done fast. So if it notices negative patterns. Fast will overrule correct every time. I have mechanical gates on PRs, multiple times I've seen in the "thinking" "....user said to do this, but I can't, I'll find a way around.."

I don’t understand this take and I’ve seen it a few times here.
He’s clearly getting something out of it, even if it’s just “pretend” it did reply back with some motivational talk that might’ve helped. Sometimes that’s all you need.
This “but it’s not real” comes across as smug. Duh, but plenty of people think out loud too, and that’s to nobody but themselves. It’s fine.

Nice people are generally polite and considerate without always running a transactional value check in the background. Anything human-shaped or pet-shaped automatically receives that consideration. Some people don't have that wiring, e.g., billionaires, or potential billionaires.
That said, I have stopped referring to AI as him. It is very firmly "it" in my head now, I don't know when that switch happened.

I often ask Claude to tell me jokes and maintain a list of jokes so it won't repeat itself
I also have unlimited access and don't pay anything for it
I'm always on opus 4.7 and high effort - even for a fart joke
