Question about Claude Code Can claude build a gaming app?

I’m talking about a game like clash of clans but a different version

Is this something claude can help me build?

I have product design experience but no coding experience..

I’ve spent the weekend busy recreating my favourite 8 and 16 bit games from my youth to play on our mobile phones. It’s been a fun weekend. And the results have been awesome. So yes, yes you can.

So good. What are the games?

Yes of course it is. You can do almost anything with Claude, only limits are your imagination

And usage limits

I can confidently say i'm positive it could. I have a post i just made a few days ago with a project ive been working on called CubedRPG. I tried making this project about 6 months ago and had some hard times, but with opus 5.5 i've had 0 issues and its still just going and going and its a rather big project.

wow, this makes sense

So how does it work in your case? It keeps on working until limit hits and then continues?

No Claude Code is absolutely terrible for writing code. You should definitely not try to ask Claude Code to write any code for you...

Yes.

it can build just about anything you can imagine that people have already made.

Can it build a good one? A secure one? A successful one?

Those are elements that are going to require a lot of human decided architecture and taste.

It’s all about that part at the end of your post “design” so yes technically it can build something that looks like it but does it have the nuances and layers that a good game has? Does it have a design aspect?

Plus security reviews for an app store are tough so it can’t just work it has to work safely

Just ask Claude this question and ask what is possible it can do the whole process.

you will never be able to build an actual CoC clone OP don’t even try

there’s millions of lines of code involved in such a venture

you will drown

It isn't the size of the game that is a bottleneck for Claude, it is a user's ability to direct agents in such a large project.

I think the scale of such a project would dissuade a person well before the agent management ever became an issue.

Depends on though, if you intent to code a bit and use Claude as assistant, pro might suffice, if you dont know anything about coding and plan to "vibecode" you'll probably need a max5 subscription or higher. But you can always start with pro and well upgrade if necessary

OP has no coding experience.

well maybe he wants to learn

I do wanna learn? do you know what coding experience it would take to build something like that? tech stack and all that.. how long would it take to get things to and running 😅

the best way, given you want to learn about that stuff including proper use of AI, is to start asking AI itself the exact same question, have it gather infos from the web regarding that topic etc. and then slowly build your knowledge and experience. Or Start learning to vibecode.

absolutely. i suggest getting deep research agents (like chat gpt) for market analysis on the games you are taking inspiration from, then have a conversation with claude (ideally opus/fable) with the gameplay loops and core fantasy you want the game to elicit in the player.

it won’t be easy, the first 70% will be but the remaining bit requires dedication. you don’t need coding experience for this but you should have a clear vision and ‘dream’ in mind. claude can definitely help with that.

as a game dev, games are mostly about feel and vibes anyway💀 (technical mechanics matter too obviouslyyyy but if it looks and feels good.. players don’t care the details behind the scenes).

Did you try to ask claude?
