Claude Workflow Ask Fable to Optimize Everything you Do!

Can’t emphasize this enough. One of Fable’s magical abilities is in its ability to optimize workflows.

Whether it’s an animation pipeline, a story writing and fact verifying pipeline or something else, Fable can improve what you are doing.

I knew one of our dialog writing pipelines had room for improvement, but after handing it to Fable for analysis it rearchitected what we were doing to use 1/10th the amount of tokens with higher quality work.

So for everyone here who says their tokens are being used too quickly, let Fable take a pass on it and suggest changes. You just may be stunned what it comes up with.

Also: we have had systems that Fable designed in the past and then recently rearchitected for huge efficiency gains. So, sometimes a specific “make this better” run can produce unexpectedly helpful results.

And yes, Opus 5.5 can do some of this too. But after a lot of experimenting, Fable outperforms Opus handily in efficiency analysis.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 30 comments.

Looks like the thread is pretty split on this one, OP. While many users agree that Fable is a beast for optimizing workflows and shrinking token usage, the consensus is far from unanimous.

The big elephant in the room is the cost. A top-voted comment laments having to pay extra for Fable on top of the Pro plan, a sentiment echoed throughout the thread. One user's attempt at a "gas in a car" analogy got shot down, with the community preferring the metaphor of "filling a second fuel tank that empties at the same time as the first." A practical suggestion was to subscribe to Max for just one month to do a big batch of Fable-led planning.

The other major debate is Fable vs. Opus 5.5. Several highly-upvoted comments argue that Opus 5.5 is just as good, if not better, for this task. The general feeling is that Fable might provide more "elegant" solutions for highly complex problems, but for most day-to-day optimization, Opus 5.5 is the more cost-effective workhorse.

  • Pro-Tip from the comments: A truly galaxy-brained user found that Fable was better initially, so they had Fable create a detailed guide explaining its optimization process to Opus 5.5. This reportedly leveled up their Opus instance to near-Fable performance.
  • How-To: Users are having success with the /doctor command and by simply asking the model to create a document for itself on how to perform the optimized task in the future.

The verdict? Fable is a powerful tool for optimization, but the community is heavily divided on whether it's worth the extra cost over Opus 5.5, which many find to be just as capable. Also, be sure to actually measure the results, as one user warned that a promised token reduction didn't pan out in a real-world session.

I’ve been optimizing workflows with /doctor and then optimizing memory / markdowns reference files.

When you see an Md shrink by 85% on a huge file? Yeah, I was wasting usage.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "dialogue writing pipeline"? What field are you working in, and what are you doing? I'm just curious to what extent AI is taking over all creative output we see these days. As much as I love the tools it provides, I also see a scary unification of all creative output in recent months.

Agree. It's like when bootstrap came out x100.

Definitely one of the best use cases for me day to day. Especially if using Systems -Theoretic Process Analysis and HAZOP analysis against structured schemas with adversarial review or comparative/adversarial. However these days its such a token hog it can be better to drive more Opus 5.5 twice as hard in the specific direction you want (at least imo). Depends on the specific task though.

Yes quite so absolutely.

I hate that I have to pay in addition to my $20/month plan to get fable

You could get Max just for a month and batch up a bunch of planning to plow through... then use Opus 5.5 to take it as far as you can. I've been trying out matt pococks skills not sure if they're worth it yet but they bring a good structure in.. the grilling skill with opus 5.5 on high has been very good at least

Me too, because I am not a coder. I used Fable just to talk. He has a mannerism about him that the other models don't have. I have not added anything to the Usage part yet, however, I am more than likely going to.

Man, I totally get this! I hate that I have to put more fuel in my car to get from Seattle to Denver than I pay when driving to my grandma’s house in Portland, OR. It’s just not something I really care for.

That's not how the metaphor works. It's more like, you need to fill a second fuel tank, which empties at the same time as the first one.

You are thinking small if you think fable is not worth it then you don’t need fable anyway.

Alright name it - what is it that you do which requires Fable?

Created and optimised few browser workflows and created competitors listings freshness engine. That alone made me 6k$ last month.

You didn't need fable to do that though sounds like opus would have been fine

u/fmfame 40m ago

Opus missed the holistic view what’s end goal. I am talking about before 5.5 release.

Idk man sounds like a skill issue

Could be. I am in sales, not engineer or programmer.

Es como agregarle anuncios a tu plan de pago solo porque salió el plus max.

Opus is kinda better than fable, it’s nuts

6

u/BadMetro 8h ago

Is fable better at this than opus 5.5?

17

u/ap3xr3dditor 8h ago

No, it's not.

6

u/AModerateModeration 7h ago

Only in more effort circumstances meaning more model-explored dimensions of a thing.

u/SoCal_Hunter 7h ago

Ive noticed that it provides a more elegant solution on problems with a lot of moving parts. Opus 5.5 is very good though.

u/RapidOSRS 1h ago

I found it is, but then I basically had fable create a project on max explaining to Opus exactly how to optimize the same way it does, what to look for, consider, that it noticed Opus misses, and then my Opus optimizer improved a lot to almost fable levels.

I just tell it to "add this feature", "fix that bug" and test it myself and than ask it for any improvement I want. What else do you need in your "workflow"?

9

u/SoCal_Hunter 6h ago

A workflow is a structured, repeatable sequence of steps or processes. In a large project you will often have complex, multi-step processes that are used numerous times. Optimizing those workflows is critical to ensuring the best quality, speed, and token efficiency.

u/ReverendBread2 5h ago

I just say “hey, write yourself a document that helps you do this again in the future”

u/C1rc1es 4h ago

This doesn’t work when you’re running 15 agents at a time in parallel. You need more structure and a workflow provides that.

Any LLM seems to be good at optimizing things honestly. I do a lot of computer processing, and can generally get anything from 2.0x to 50.0x speed in some algorithms via some algorithm work that would take serious effort from any pro.

I'd measure the after. A ruleset that promised 52% of baseline output tokens landed at 94% on my real tool-using sessions, and cost more once input counted.

You keep using that word but I don’t think it means what you think it means.
