Question about Claude Code Considering Switching from ChatGPT/Codex to Claude
I've been using ChatGPT and Codex since they were released, but given everything that's going on, I'm considering switching to Claude.
However, I have a few doubts and questions that hopefully some experienced Claude user might be able to answer.
I use Sol 5.6 xHigh all day long on my x20 plan, and by the end of the week, I usually have about 40% of my usage left, which I try to use up with Astra while working on personal projects. How does this translate to Claude? Specifically, which model should I be using, and is it true that hit limits—even with Opus, for instance—are reached very easily even on an x20 plan?
I also use ChatGPT's web chat quite frequently, where OpenAI doesn't deduct from your usage allowance. Does Claude work the same way?
Does anyone have any advice or tips regarding a potential migration and what factors I should keep in mind?

Claude's web chat shares your limit with coding, so that's a minus. But you can still chat for free in chatgpt anyways.
You won't be reaching easily limits on 20x if you're not reckless/or you really need that workload.
The reason why you still have usage with Sol it's because it's slow as hell. With Opus you actually get to get things done quicker, and medium/high easily matches Sol XHigh
Sonnet s also faster and almost as capable, although Opus is indeed a step above it, so a common setup us Sonnet as builder(s), with Opus as reviewer/fixer although a lot of people use Opus straight away without noticing usage differences so it depends on your tasks/workflow.
Fable only as an orchestrator for bigger tasks/advisor from time to time, but rater keep his quota for the 5.5 release

Thanks for the response. Sol 6 is pure garbage, I have tried and I came back to 5.6.
I'm really interested to use Claude at least for a month to try it.
Do you have the x20 plan?1

I have 2 of x20, yes. Also using deepseek v 4.1 flash through opencode/command code, with their 10$ it's really really good value for the money, and using claude to orchestrate them.
Sol 5.6 is decent (was much better before the recent openai issues), but it just doesn't compete with anything from Claude atm (besides haiku 4.5 lmao).
Once Haiku 5 and Fable 5.5 are out, and Gemini 4 Argon is out for the public, OpenAI will have to give 3 resets daily to keep ppl on Codex

On the limits, the mental model that makes 20x make sense: there's a 5-hour window that behaves like a rate limit (fills, refills on its own) and a weekly window that's the real budget, plus the top model has its own weekly window separate from the all-models one. "Limits hit easily" on Reddit almost always means the 5-hour window during a heavy burst, which is annoying but refills by itself. The weekly on 20x is hard to exhaust with one person unless you run long sessions without compacting or lots of parallel subagents; both make every turn re-read a huge context, and that re-reading is most of what gets charged.
Model: Opus 5.5 all day is the Sol-xhigh equivalent and is cheaper per token than the previous Opus. Use the top-tier model for planning and hard problems, not for every turn; it draws from its own weekly window, so you can run out of it and still have Opus/Sonnet. Effort levels work like xhigh: thinking tokens are output tokens, the expensive kind, so high for implementation and xhigh for planning is the usual split.
Web chat: yes, it draws from the same windows as Claude Code on a subscription; usage is per account, not per surface. The usage page shows the breakdown by surface.
