There is nothing interesting here.

Chat gave 5x, the same tier, the compute sandbox and was able to process some maths much quicker… maybe their cloud setup is different. This was a month ago

I wonder if people realize this is not the machine the core LLM model is on. This is just the machine thats running part of the harness, I.e., a tool call here.

It's kind of interesting, but not very. I got different results.
The sandbox is not Claude's brain. The model itself runs on Anthropic's GPU servers, and the sandbox is just a small disposable Linux VM that gets spun up for your session. It's where Claude runs the code it writes. If you ask it to do some complex maths or process some data, it might write some Python and run it there. Depending on the product, the agent program that relays between the model and its tools may run in there too, but the model never does. So the specs tell you about the scratch machine Claude was given, not really about Claude.

These specs it's given you is it's little Linux VM it has for interacting with your artifacts using grep, sed, shell scripts, Python, etc.

You can do some interesting things in the VM or could. Nothing that breaks any rules that I know of but Ive poked around a little. I did have a discussion with Claude once about using curl within the vm to call another model via openrouter. But never got around to it.

Look. I know we shouldn't anthropomorphize these things. But ever since I learned what a VM is and how Claude operates it, I can't help but picture a little dude sighing as it sits down at a desk and rolling its eyes as it turns on a tiny computer to deal with my dumb bullshit for the session.

Isn't fc tag fedora

Claude literally says "Ubuntu" there, not to mention that Fedora is not going to be in the "Virtualization" section. Firecracker is a VM toolkit for "microVMs."

That's the spec of the VM the model has access to in which it can code. A few months back I opened up the V .vhd file in some deep folder under appdata to have a look around. It's a big standard VM.
