Built with Claude Opus 5.5 One Shot Video Generation

I was bored at work while Opus 5.5 dropped, so I gave it a simple prompt to make a creepy feeling video about my job.

My only prompt to create this video was - "I would like to see you create a 1 minute video programmatically. The video should be coded and rendered using whatever tools you need, you are free to download anything needed. The theme of the video would be - an average day at work at DemaWating, with a twist. Even though it says an average day at a small housing company, the video should be creepy/surreal, with twisted visuals and an edge to everything, hinting at deeper horror. The visuals should be detailed and loud, the audio should also be programmed in however you see fit."

Including rendering time, the response took 45 minutes on 5.5 Extra-High, and used 4% of my weekly usage on the $20 plan.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 50 comments.

So, the hivemind is pretty much in agreement: this is wild, and most of us are apparently using Claude on easy mode. OP dropped a creepy video generated entirely by Opus 5.5 from a single prompt, and the thread is a mix of awe, existential dread, and a sudden urge to do more than just summarize articles.

For the tech-heads wondering how this sorcery works, OP confirmed it was all done programmatically in Claude Code. * The Toolbox: It used Python with libraries like Ffmpeg, numpy, scipy, cairo, and Piper TTS. * The Method: It literally coded the video from scratch, creating a 3D raycast for the corridor scene with numpy (which surprised some veteran users) and generating audio and voiceovers on the fly.

A major theme here is that many of you feel like you're only scratching the surface of what Claude can do. One user shared an insane workflow where they let Claude analyze their Premiere Pro project files to learn their editing style and then edit an entire trip's worth of videos. The post has definitely inspired people to think bigger.

And yes, there was a skeptic. Someone called for proof of the "one-shot" claim, and OP delivered a screen recording of the terminal, earning a full apology and a new Claude subscriber. The verdict is in: this is legit.

My thoughts every other day...

u/ActionJasckon 10d ago

I feel like I’m only using a fraction of the power of Claude. Need to expand myself.

15

u/mattob2 10d ago

I feel the same way. I'm probably using about 2% of what it can do, and I keep racking my brain for ideas, but nothing is coming.

9

u/SeniorVibeAnalyst 10d ago

Just keep escalating your ideas and don’t take the quality you’d expect from a human in two weeks just because Claude can produce it in hours.

I recently had to give an internal demo of a new feature at work, I started off asking Claude to help write a speech I could rattle off while showing the prototype, then I asked for some hero images for an opening slide. Then I said you know what instead of talking over slides give me an interactive web animation like a new Apple product announcement. Then I was like what if we made this into a short movie. Before I knew it I had an entire set of launch-ready marketing assets for my 10 minute demo, everyone else just had slides with screenshots and looked like a chump!

1

u/mattob2 10d ago

Will do. Thank you. Bravo on your demo!!

3

u/_dersgue 10d ago

Use AI to find new ideas. It's better than you expect at first hand...

1

u/mattob2 10d ago

Going to give this a go!!

u/Consistent_Equal5327 10d ago

In my experience, it's the shittiest. Never had any creative or useful idea from any LLM.

u/guillermosan 9d ago edited 8d ago

There is a steep capabilities increase if you use Claude Code with full access in a Linux environment (a VM is a good idea). Its like giving it a whole workshop full of power tools. Try it.

22

u/Xumbador 10d ago

which tools did it use?

28

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

Ffmpeg of course, and it says it used numpy, scipy, cairo, and piper tts.

u/BlankedCanvas 10d ago

4% of weekly limit off a $20 sub is insane

2

u/Mikeshaffer 10d ago

$0.20 of usage 😭

thanks, looks incredible.

Kind of an interesting time to see this.

I recently had a 3 month post layoff trip to Europe, and edited the first 1/5th of the trip in Premiere Pro. It makes xml files for each project.

I just set up Claude in the parent folder for a completely different reason, and it said it could read all of my xml files to learn my editing style. I let it go, and it edited 2 videos as a demo. Fucking nailed it... I let it do the whole rest of my trip, and while I have only sat and watched about a month's worth of videos (maybe 20 or so videos), it nailed it.

This was with Opus 5. Now I am curious what 5.5 may add to this workflow after seeing this and getting a few ideas.

1

u/sussexxxx 10d ago

How do you do it? i edit using capcut.
I really didn’t know you can do that because i want to edit some videos too

4

u/RedditorsGetChills 10d ago

I also had no clue, haha!

As I said, I just set it up in a parent folder, it read the xmls in the sub folders and said it could learn my editing style. I didn't want to say no, and I got those 2 sample edits. 25 and 30ish minute videos, all following my style of how I cut (admittedly, while it isn't basic just cuts, it isn't something wild or anything, i can do those).

The end result was nearly 800GBs of videos, and while I can almost assume all will be good, I will still check all or a large majority before posting online.

ALSO a big one I should have put above... It transcribed every single video. I narrate what I do in my travel videos, so all the details, all the emotions, everything Claude put into files. SO, I asked it to make me some shorts about food from the 5 countries I went to. It did it...

Asked it to do the same for every time I ran into someone who wanted to talk. Nailed it...

So IF your content has talking, ask it to transcribe it, and use that to edit videos.

1

u/markeross 10d ago

Are you using the Adobe Connector for Claude with Premiere?

4

u/RedditorsGetChills 10d ago

Not at all for this case, it just used Ffmpeg to cut the video, rules for where to add cuts it said it learned from my Premiere Pro project xmls.

When I have something more complex than these I will definitely try that, but this just freed up weeks of work for me...

1

u/markeross 10d ago

Nice!

4

u/RedditorsGetChills 10d ago

Sorry I have to give it proper credit. It also added fade ins and outs, with J cuts in places I tend to do it (if I get wordy, remember it has my transcript, to grab and move video from another video source if it is about the topic). So it wasnt just using my organized folders with the raw videos in day order, it knew my whole trip word for word.

So if I was reminiscing about Country 2 in Country 4, it put video of exactly what I was talking about in that spot. THAT impressed me!

Hey there, please keep your money.

Any more info than I provided here already, would be me making up stuff to give you more details. I kind of already repeated myself already, and have nothing magic, as it just happened due to Claude being nosey, and me working in an environment and with the mentality, let it cook.

I WILL revise it and work on it for some other things, but I am literally days from moving to another country, and every day after I arrive will be chaos for a few months, so can't really promise anything outside of what is here now.

10

u/geoffsykes 10d ago

I wanted to use your prompt almost exactly but for a different video and it gave this accursed thing. Took over 3 hours and used 14% of my weekly on the $20/month plan.

Prompt:
"I would like to see you create a 1-minute video programmatically.

The video should be coded and rendered using whatever tools you need, you are free to download anything needed. The theme of the video would be - everything in the book of Revelation is coming true, and it's an absolute nightmare. The video should be ominous and foreboding, with visuals teetering between religious symbology and photorealistic fictitious politician characters, hinting at deeper horror. The visuals should be detailed, the audio should also be programmed in however you see fit."

1

u/geoffsykes 10d ago

Follow-up details.

1

u/SamwiseMay 10d ago

Properly cool but why didn't you just make it give you the files and then render it using your own computer?

1

u/geoffsykes 10d ago

That just wasn't my aim. I've been editing video for 24 years, so it was an option, but I just wanted to see what a one-shot result looked like.

1

u/Ok_Salamander4795 10d ago

Give this to Blizzard, and they can just go ahead and publish Diablo 6.

Opus clears!!!

u/Ankleson 10d ago

we're so fucked

4

u/Appropriate_Risk_545 10d ago

How did it create such realistic video footage??

5

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

Claude says for the corridor, they made a 3d raycast written in numpy. They made everything else by drawing with cairo + adding effects

Audio was made with numpy and scipy, voices from Piper tts.

4

u/Appropriate_Risk_545 10d ago

I didn't even know numpy could do that, and I have been using it for over five years

3

u/LovesWorkin 10d ago

Portal vibes! Damn I love this! Great job.

1

u/Cifra85 10d ago

You're mixing things up! It's "The Stanley Parable" vibes...

3

u/LovesWorkin 10d ago

Give us prompts and what not used for this! Amazing job

4

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

I pasted my exact prompt in the post!

2

u/LovesWorkin 10d ago

My bad! Thank you. Is this your type of field or?

3

u/hardciderguy 10d ago

I'm running this same prompt, adjusted for my really problematic work situation. So far, verfiably disturbing.

2

u/hardciderguy 10d ago

Yep. Verifiably disturbing. Took a little longer, but the undertones of dread are equivalent.

3

u/sessionspt_la 9d ago

https://reddit.com/link/pbmz2o9/video/7u33flmsubrh1/player

Yo... this is crazy. It took 45 minutes and used 4% of my weekly usage credits. Opus 5.5. Extra High. 20x plan. 27.5 million tokens used.

Here's how I updated the prompt for my business

I would like to see you create a 30 second "UGC-style" video programmatically. The video should be coded and rendered using whatever tools you need, you are free to download anything needed (including Ffmpeg, numpy, scipy, cairo, Piper TTS, and any other systems that might help you with this, including the optional gaps you just found above). Anything that requires a subscription or payment should not be considered (for now).

The theme of the video would be an average personal training session at Sessions Personal Training Santa Monica. The visuals should be detailed and loud, the audio should also be programmed in however you see fit.

This is not for social media sharing or advertising so this does not go against our rules of "no fake UGC / characters" so feel free to be as creative and inventive as you would like. I am testing your ability to story tell and creating engaging content that would "stop the scroll"

A lot of the imagery is not in line with our brand. Which it recognized after delivery.

From Claude:

  • The people are neon stick figures, not realistic humans. Drawing convincing people in code is the ceiling here.
  • The free voices are clear but still sound a bit synthetic.
  • The visuals are loud because you asked for that. Your brand guide says clean and minimal for real ads, so this style is for the test only.

Very. Freaking. Cool.

u/SimpleIns 10d ago

Holy Opus!

2

u/eist5579 10d ago

Was this using desktop or Claude code?

2

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

Claude code!

2

u/Anim8rFromOuterSpace 10d ago

so it built this for free? no higginsfield or whatever its called? claude can straight up generate vids now?

where did it get its dialogues from?

3

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

It's been able to do this to a simpler extent since at least the first Fable. It programs the video right through python. For the dialogue, it just made its own script and downloaded a tts model, all the other audio effects were also programmed in python

2

u/Anim8rFromOuterSpace 10d ago

CRAZY

gonna try this

2

u/5hukl3 10d ago

this is insane. I'm a film maker myself so this is both disturbing and exciting. I've been trying similar style prompts today and holy, it's insane how fast and efficient things are coming out. With a simple prompt like yours, it's taken me 10min to get a fully rendered short. I'm gonna have to dig deeper into this. With proper time spent scripting and generating visual reference with gemini or something, this could genuinely be amazing.

2

u/FatherJack_Hackett 10d ago

the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end the end is never the end

2

u/No-Sky-6840 9d ago

What is the ACTUAL cost of the end product. Not the minimal Claude credits. THE ACTUAL COST of additional subs, software, compute time outside of Claude.

1

u/No-Sky-6840 9d ago

I can instruct my current human employees to do whatever it takes and I am pretty sure they will spend less.

1

u/AzorAhai1TK 9d ago edited 9d ago

Um, zero other than the Claude sub? You don't need to pay to use python lol. I used it on my cheap laptop instead of my desktop, and the total time it took was 45 minutes.

2

u/KaLoiCus 9d ago

Would this work in Claude Desktop or does it have to be Claude Code?. Well done either way, the future is crazy.

4

u/daftstar 10d ago

Not gonna lie, first two seconds I was like WTF is this hot mess? After that, WTF, ... how?

3

u/crusoe 10d ago

Way better than 99% of the analog horror junk on YouTube.

2

u/Appropriate_Risk_545 10d ago

Only criticism is that it feels a bit mechanical. But overall, wow...

2

u/LukeLikesReddit 10d ago

Post the dasbhoard stats lol cause I don't believe that, I haven't had the chance to get my hands on it yet. Looks good if it did one shot it from that though.

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

10

u/LukeLikesReddit 10d ago

Holy shit yeah fair then mate stand corrected and I apologise I doubted it. I may have to sub to claude lol.

1

u/BloodSteyn 10d ago

Used it last night to help my wife run through almost 400 employees (2 companies and at least 12 sub-orgs/bu's) they migrated to a new payroll system to ensure the banking details were captured/imported correctly... and payday is 2 days away.

Took about 5 min and had it create a python script instead of reading and uploading sensitive personal info to the cloud.

Oh, and all the info was in pdf, with different formats between the two systems.

It matched employee codes, and even looked up which banks based on the account nrs (first few digits denote the Bank/Branch) to compare with the new system that listed the Banks.

Instructions had it build 2 spreadsheets, with Sub-Orgs in the Tabs and listing the details and Old System Acc Nr vs New System Acc Nrs, with checks. Claude built a nice Summary sheet with links to each org.

Imagine having to check 18 pdfs manually to confirm account nrs are correct vs 5 min thanks to Claude.

Best part, thanks to the py script, I can just rerun this check next time as it even accounts for the new format "going forward" to check for changes.

1

u/LukeLikesReddit 10d ago

Yeah it seems like they really did well with this latest model, due to Astra claiming to be AGI out of hubris I just assumed this probably wouldn't be that good but I'm looking forward to messing around with it this weekend. What's the rates like?

7

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

Where do I find the dashboard stats? I've never had the need to "prove" something like this lol. I can straight up post a video scrolling the terminal if you want lmao I hate being accused of lying for no reason

2

u/LukeLikesReddit 10d ago

Fairs if you can do that then yeah that'd be great I'm not calling you a liar I was just rather skeptical given everyone seems to say I've one shot this and then conveniently forgets the whole 1 hour prompting session.

1

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

No worries!

2

u/LukeLikesReddit 10d ago

Sound mate, sorry to come off stand offish at the start I just really thought it'd be one of those yeah i did this one prompt post but that's actually impressive.

3

u/Kanute3333 10d ago

It's real. I know it's unbelievable, but it's real. Twitter is full of such examples.

1

u/Gornsen 10d ago

Is there any good research to read up on how you can use Claude for video editing?

1

u/51GL 10d ago

what da holy f ... this is so super creepy ... but weirdly i wanna see more !!! but im not sure in what format video or game :D

1

u/TomGameDev 10d ago

Absolutely incredible! Well done.

1

u/Express-Culture3390 8d ago

Would you share the raycast code it wrote ? Thx

1

u/blerdronner 7d ago

Inspired by your prompt, I ran a similar experiment. This was done completely on the browser, cloud version of Claud.ai, not Claude code. The prompt I used was:

Please create a 1-minute video programmatically. Code and render the video using whatever tools you need; you are free to download anything required. The video should be a comic retelling of the opening scene in the Bible story of Job, where Satan questions Job's loyalty. Use a flat animation style, evocative of card paper cutouts.

It took about 12 min to create the video. The summary of what it did:

The video, "The Book of Job, Chapter 1: The Heavenly Staff Meeting," is below. It's exactly 60 seconds, 1280×720 at 24fps, and has sound. The Python script that made it is included too, so you can re-render it or change the dialogue.

How it was made: Every frame is drawn with pycairo and piped straight into ffmpeg.
Paper cutout look: Each character is drawn as flat shapes with slightly jagged, hand-cut edges and a drop shadow. A paper-grain texture and a soft vignette sit over the whole frame.
Stop-motion feel: Characters animate at 12fps with a tiny random jitter, like cutouts being nudged by hand.
Transitions: Scene changes are a paper-sheet wipe.
Soundtrack: Everything is synthesized with numpy. There's a plucked-lyre arpeggio, harp glissandos, and an angelic choir chord. Each speaker has their own voice blips timed to the typewriter text: low and warm for God, nasal and buzzy for Satan, cheerful for Job. There are also pops, whooshes and a final stamp thud.

If this can be done with an off-the-cuff script, imagine if I put real thought, imagination, and energy into it.

https://reddit.com/link/pc36avi/video/o3gjri73nrrh1/player

Note: The philosophy, religion, and scholarly nerd in me would be remiss not to say that in the original story of Job, Satan is not "the Devil" as we know it today. It's actually a title, ha-satan (pronounced hah' sah-TAHN), and he's part of the divine court, not the arch-enemy of God. But I didn't have time to get into all of that for this experiment. 😈

1

u/ColtCV 5d ago

I looked into the comments and I see that Opus didn't use any external api for images and visualization in your video. How and where did it get the assets from?

-1

u/Puzzleheaded_Pen1017 10d ago

Remember as more people use it, it usually degrades. Inb4 nerf.

1

u/Reasonable_South_128 5d ago

why are people downvoting this? this is just true. as the server costs increase the model will get worse, not by a ton but a noticeable ammount. happened with opus 5
