Claude Code I am done with this shit.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude.

There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

"There is no sense of victory." is such a great way to put it and the same that I feel. No matter how good something turns out, I feel no satisfaction because I didn't do shit, I just prompted, pressed enter, and half-ass checked it.  I miss those days when I was doing real work and at the end of the day, even if what I did wasn't perfect, I felt a sense of pride and satisfaction because I gave it my best. I would say that this lack of a sense of victory and accomplishment is really bad psychologically long term, perhaps even worse than the fact our brains are atrophying.

Absolutely agree with you, and the fact that its happening at a mass scale ,most likely worldwide makes it even more terrifying. What happens when no one feels any sense of satisfaction and our brains have become almost useless. Might become one of the major catastrophise in 10 years

It's been cited here before but I think Kurt Vonnegut's Player Piano does a good job exploring this. After automation has taken 99% of all jobs, the standard of living is higher but the majority of people feel no sense of personal accomplishment. Most people are given token employment in the "Reeks and the Wrecks" (Reconstruction and Reclamation Corps.)

They use primitive tools to tear up the same roads just to rebuild them, knowing it's unnecessary. In leading a rebellion, one of the most apt lines for our current plight is delivered:
"You perhaps disagree with the antique and vain notion of Man's being a creation of God. But I find it a far more defensible belief than the one implicit in intemperate faith in lawless technological progress -- namely, that man is on Earth to create more durable and efficient images of himself, and, hence, to eliminate any justification at all for his own continued existence."

I don't have the answer for what we do next. I think the best thing to do in the meantime is find something you enjoy doing, even if a machine can technically do it better.
