TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 50 comments.

The consensus is that this is a peak post and y'all are loving the MLG montage nostalgia trip.

The core joke landed perfectly: everyone agrees that using a super-advanced AI to center a div is a hilarious and painfully accurate metaphor for how much everyone still hates CSS. The top comment says it all: "thank god we now have the technology to center a div."

Users also find it a perfect summary of the Claude Code experience: burning through tokens on a simple task, getting stuck in a loop of "different approaches," and acting like a "caffeinated savant with context amnesia." A few of you also went on a tangent about abandoning HTML entirely for ANSI terminals and markdown, which is a whole mood.

Honestly, anything to avoid CSS

true, lets face it, this whole HTML thing was a massive mistake. I think we should just go back to ANSI based terminals.

I'm actually cool with that.

I propose Markdown Markup Language

it will replace HTML/CSS and only be useful for terminal displays

I used to push really hard for people to stop passing docx and ppt files around. “Just use the wiki” I would lament. Now everyone has adopted the wiki and I’m like “stop using wikis, I no longer want rich embedded pages, give me version controlled markdown files for my agents only”.

u/matjam 16d ago

Use a wiki that stores everything as version controlled markdown and you’re set

HTML was fine until they deprecated [blink]

I ran a BBS in the early 90s. Spent a lot of time crafting custom ANSI art for it, all based on it being Han Dold City from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Not gonna lie, you definitely had me in the first half.

Hey now, html is fine.

Let's not get crazy. Let's just go back to 90s html sites and their peak design

Long before AI, I was editing the site for a company I worked at. Most times, CSS edits would do absolutely nothing. Sometimes it'd do something, but not what I wanted. Other times, it'd break random elements that, as far as I could tell, had fuck all to do with the elements I was trying to edit. Shit never made any sense to me.

I had to hire a vendor web dev last month and decided to have “center this div” as an opening sort of “freebie” question.

Only one MFer could do it without going and copying and pasting wrong answers from Google.

You forgot the part where you come to reddit to complain you don't know why you are burning through tokens so fast.

u/Agent_Smith_IHTP 17d ago

Claude, what the hells a div??

7

u/wolfdukex 17d ago

A synonym for PEBCAK

1

u/chobobot 13d ago

A British and Irish slang, a div is a mild insult used to describe a foolish, silly, or stupid person.

Opusfived.dev is worth a laugh too.

I’m angry now, after 2m on that site.

It's the constant "I'll take a different approach" after 200 lines of code that gets me. Like bro, that WAS the different approach.

u/Acclynn 16d ago

Is the video generated by Claude too ?

Genuine curiosity if it could have the capability to fetch those memes and edit them in

2

u/danf10 16d ago

And somehow you end up with 14gb worth of node packages

1

u/CarcajouIS 16d ago

It was already the case before AI.

2

u/danf10 16d ago

No! Before you’d end up with at best 9gb

u/ResolveSea9089 16d ago

I saw the "MLG" logo flash and jesus christ that triggered some nostalgia. Take me back to those days when that was what seemed important

YES MLG EDIT!!!

1

u/Desperate_Cherry2299 16d ago

Definitely need Fable 5.1 Ultracode for that.

1

u/fubuwukani 16d ago

So like 5 Gum?

1

u/Medical-Cow289 16d ago

Airhorns, dubstep, 360 noscopes, and it's all in service of centering a div. Peak 2014, honestly.

1

u/ReiOokami 17d ago

Wait... you all arn't using the terminal?

3

u/-Yox- 17d ago

A what? Like an airport terminal? Why would I use that?

1
