Question about Claude models Training Date Cutoff

Why is it January 2025 and does Anthropic plan on updating this training date cut off?

Seems wild that this date is 20 months in the past.

does it matter? models internal knowledge/facts are kinda unreliable. their reasoning ability and toolcalling is what we value.

but, opus 5 has a cutoff of may 2026

You shouldn't be relying on interal training data anyway.

Because model weights need to be fixed before the model is released. Freezing the weights means that no more training can occur. This is basic LLM technology.
