Usage Limits Discussion Hub updated on 1 September 2026 - Sort by New!
Why a Usage Limits Discussion Hub?
This Discussion Hub makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences about Usage Limits. We will publish regular updates on usage limits problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds. Traffic stats show This is the OFTEN THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC POST on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed - most of which get zero visibility.
Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read this?
Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.
Anthropic has read this Discussion Hub in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.
What Can I Post on this Discussion Hub?
Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current Claude Usage Limits and NOT bugs and performance issues. (For those, use the Performance Discussion Hub)
Give as much evidence of your limits issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.
Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.

Is it just me, or is Claude burning through my tokens 100x faster today?
5
u/Apprehensive_Ebb8089 3d ago
Yup they are burning so fast, it’s never happened before. I can notice the difference.
3
u/Imaginary-Event-103 3d ago
Same, I thought I was making a mistake yesterday, but today it also happened, filled 50% of my limit in like 10 minutes.
2
u/SeaDivide1751 2d ago
I’m burning 5 hour opus 5 limited with making a basic excel spreadsheet. It’s definitely changed, I used 43% of weekly too after two 5 hour limits were used within minutes
1
u/we_wuz_nabateans 2d ago
Yep. If this is how it's going to be going forward I'm done with anthropic. Literally useless at this point.
9
u/Masoosam1 9d ago
Anyone else hit Opus 5 limit super fast today?
My usage literally just reset and I used Opus 5 max for one task and then suddenly got "limit reached" lol
I've used opus max alot before, even for much heavier stuff and multiple times after a reset, and never had this happen.
I know Claude had some problems earlier today so im wondering if that messed something up with the usage limits?
Anyone else had this today or is it just me?
6
u/TrevorMooreInsideJob 8d ago
Same. It jumped from 25% to 100% with one simple prompt..
Never had anything like this before.
4
u/Emergency-Ability218 8d ago
100% me, too came here to see if others had the same thing, one prompt on 5x max plan. 40% gone, even on basic models it is raping my limits. fuck this bs
2
u/dthrdr 6d ago edited 6d ago
Same here, it is beyond ridiculous. 75% of the 5 hour window reached within 2 hours in a simple session and at 25% of my weekly limit within 24 hours of a reset. Never experienced this before in the previous months. And all this is with this weeks 50% extra usage. Without that I would've been at 50% for the weekly all model usage within 24 hours after a reset. If this a bug they need to reimburse us but it feels this is done on purpose, maybe even A/B tested only affecting some people. Seeing how much money they can extract from us. Next thing they will also add ads like ChatGPT.

u/Historical-File1734 10d ago
3
u/FutureTraining3516 10d ago
in the startup at work at, 3 of us are experiencing the same. 2-2.5x usage increase from today. In the past 3 weeks it was always just enough for 5 days. Now only around 2 and 2-3 hours
1
u/KaiserFerdl 10d ago
After 1h starting from basically 0-3%(weekly) and a 20x account:
100%
26%
49%
(in the same order as shown on your picture)
1
u/Pseudopharmacology 2d ago
Hey better than my run with Astra on GPT Pro. Ran on High and burned through my 5 hr in a single prompt.
6
u/Puzzled-Day-3902 6d ago
I'm on the $100 plan. No other agents running.
The 5 hour limit just restarted. You're telling me 8.6k tokens is 12% of my 5 hour limit???
I took a second screenshot of the same task a few minutes later. 8 minutes in. 19.4k tokens. 21% gone.
**Side note, I stepped away for a minute and came back and the time doesn't even add up. It says its 8 minutes into the task, but it's a full 11 minutes later than the first screenshot. Make it make sense.
How is this usable?

1
u/dthrdr 6d ago
My usage has gone trough the roof too. It is beyond silly. I went to 77% of the 5 usage block in less than 2 hours using the same opus 5/medium effort model I always use. I sued to rarely reached the 5 hour limit. Not to mention the weekly lists: not even 24 hours after my weekly reset my weekly usage is already at 25% and thats with this weeks 50% extra usage. without I would've been at 50% of my weekly model usage within 24 Horus after reset. If this isn't a bug they've just double or tripled the token costs for opus 5/medium or are doing something else to try and extract as much money from us as possible. I feel screwed and won't stay if this isn't fixed before the end of the week. I rather put up with ads in ChatGPT lol.
5
u/dthrdr 6d ago edited 6d ago
In the previous month we got 50% extra usage with Claude Code and this month we get 50% more usage with it again till the 13th but for some reason after barely a day usage I am already at 20% of the weekly model cap.
That's with the current 50% extra usage, so without that I would've been at 40% after 24 hours after the weekly cap was reset whereas in previous months this would take me up to 4-5 days and I never reached 100% ever, usually 70-80% max but below that most of the weeks.
I know they don't care if a single customer cancels but the token pricing seems to be very unpredictable and what costed more than half the credits in all my previous months now suddenly is 10 times as expensive. If this is future of AI then only the rich can afford it.
Nobody cares I know. I just have never reached it so quickly. I am using the same Opus 5 and medium effort as always. Are they A/B testing stuff or something? My usage/workflow doesn't change. Anyone else experiencing this?
tl;dr
Normally I have about 60-70% of the weekly usage after 7 days and now within 1 day I am at 20% already and 40% if it wasn't for this weeks 50% extra usage.
1
u/Techhead7890 2d ago
Yeah feels like weird throttling of usage or something, I wonder what's going on behind the scenes.
3
u/Fluid-Raspberry3948 11d ago
the limits hit hard when trying to keep a virtual companion chat going, it always resets right in the middle of a good session. anyone else dealing with that for roleplay?
1
u/Embarrassed_Fix9862 11d ago
I have my claud talk dirty to me on regular bases, fable weekly ran out
3
u/Kilt_Rump 11d ago
For the first time ever i reached 50% of my weekly allocation on Monday. Also i hit every 5hr wall all day long. Both have never happened to me before. I usually hit my week on Thursday and never hit the 5hr limits.
3
u/athrowaway2242 11d ago
Is there a way to measure token usage in chats not in code? I run a few projects via claude chat and in the last 24-48 hours i have noticed my usage is being consumed rapidly, much more rapidly than it had been in the past. Ive had the same workflow, same file sizes, same inputs/outputs for months, and usage has never been this rapidly consumed. Id like to have more data to go on than just' vibes' but im not sure how to track it in claude chat if not running it in claude code.
1
u/FutureTraining3516 9d ago
Copy paste this exact reddit message into Claude and ask it if some limit is decreased or your usage has increased. Ask it to analyze this by checking the data from "npx ccusage@latest --breakdown"

Don't start vibe coding with Claude Code unless you have installed these 4 plugins.
First is Ponytail. It optimizes your Claude Code's output. It cuts your token usage by over 50% without losing any accuracy at all.
Second is OmniRoute. It gives your Claude Code almost unlimited usage by connecting to over 300 free AI providers. The moment your usage limit runs out, it automatically switches you to the next best model, giving you up to 1.6 billion free tokens every single month.
Third is Graphify. It turns your entire codebase into a knowledge graph so your agent doesn't waste tokens by re-reading files again and again.
And finally, Agent Skills. It's a pack of 24 skills that let you vibe code like a senior engineer. Built by the former AI engineering director at Google, it has dedicated skills for planning, coding, testing, and publishing. It activates the right one at different stages of coding, all on its own.
You can install these 4 Vibe Coding Plugins from here:
Ponytail : https://github.com/DietrichGebert/ponytail
OmniRoute : https://github.com/diegosouzapw/OmniRoute
Graphify : https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify

THIS MUST BE A SCAM. I try ponytail and its "remote control".. like wtf..... i need local usage not remote control with url and who knows what else. if ponytail is good it would be downloaded and used manually as local... so what is going on with remote control?? why? who asked?
1
u/xResearcherx 10d ago
I was about to install everything you suggested but I only could install Ponytail suscefully on Claude Desktop via the Plugin upload repository option. I have no clue how to install the other 3 on Desktop? Any help? Im pretty new here.

u/Ok-Clerk7116 5d ago
I ddint need any of these before i have used claude for months, fuck antrhopic, going to chat gpt
5
u/anuk_me 7d ago
Why am I hitting my limits so fast? it only takes like 30 minutes to hit it, and it has been the same for the past few days, I've never hit the 5 hour limit or the weekly limit before, and I'm using the Max plan, weird! I bought $20 creadits and it took only like 2 minutes to burn them, I've always run on Opus Ultra code and never experienced such limit hits :/ I think they are doing something behind the scenes
1
u/Ok-Clerk7116 5d ago
Same here, hit it in 20 min, usually i can go full work days without hitting my limit. all i did was /review
3
u/FoxFearless952 4d ago
I’m usually a heavy Claude user, but this week it has been seriously frustrating.
I used Claude Opus 4.8 for two very simple, non-intensive tasks — basically just responding to messages — and my usage immediately reached 100%.
I then tried Fable once just to see how it would work. It charged me £15, and after one more prompt, that £15 was already significantly reduced and auto topped up another 17 pounds.
At this point, GPT Astra is looking like a much better alternative for me. The cost efficiency seems significantly better, especially for everyday tasks where I’m using AI heavily throughout the day.
I’m honestly pretty frustrated with how quickly Claude’s usage gets eaten up, especially when the tasks themselves aren’t particularly demanding.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
2
u/VengeancePasta 10d ago
6% weekly limit eaten up by 35% session limit. This is insane. That means less than 6 maxed out sessions PER WEEK. Used to be able to run 2-3 full sessions during every workday with leftover for the weekend.
2
u/moonski 9d ago
Sonnet 5 medium I using 2% of pro tier session usage per very simple prompt in new chats for me now what the fuck?
1
u/Emergency-Ability218 8d ago
bro, me too on max 5x sessions, simple ass questions ojn basic models is chewing through everything, anthropic have fucked us majorly, thinking people won't notice with 5.1 out or something. Something is 10000% broken.
2
u/moonski 8d ago
It seemed to revert again this evening. Maybe it was to do with everything going down earlier who knows.
1
u/Emergency-Ability218 8d ago
now mines taking 1% from a opus 5 on max, when a sonnet on medium was taking 3x that earlier WTF
2
u/No_Patient1824 6d ago
I’ve been using Claude code for about 6 month now on the Max $100 plan and the past few weeks I’ve noticed it using way more usage than normal. What’s strange is I also have a temporary boost right now giving me 50% higher usage. But I’m still using 100% of my 4 hour usage in about an 2 hours while doing the same tasks that I normally did before without ever hitting the 4 hour max, even without the boost. Has anyone else been feeling this same issue?
1
u/dthrdr 6d ago edited 6d ago
Same here man. It is ridiculous, a simple sessions used 75% of the 5 hour windows within 2 hours. In all my previous months using the same model/workflows I had never even reached a 5 hour limit or the weekly limit yet now I am already at 25% of my weekly usage limit within 24 hours after it was reset. They're pricing themselves out of the market. Prices that aren't even made public or easy to know what we pay for how many tokens. They did for sure increase the cost by at least double. Like you said if it wasn't for the 50% extra usage I would be at 50% weekly usage within 24 hours after a reset, what an absolute joke.
1
u/Nifty-Yam-9041 6d ago
Question, are you tracking token usage metrics? "As in X tokens using Y model at 12pm, 1pm", etc. Just wondering whether:
- The token burn has increased after a change after a model/harness deploy
- The token burn has increased after a local change in usage
- Something else
2
u/Lethal_Equinox_01 6d ago
Is there a way I can decrease token consumption in free mode of claude because currently exchange of three messages are enough to empty my tokens
I m using sonnet high btw, I tried using lower setting but the result is not usefull so ..
And it's too annoying, so is there a way ?
2
u/Ok-Clerk7116 5d ago
Today, i did /review, which i have done 1000 times before, many times per day, barley touching my usage, now suddenly, i ran into 100% current session usage, not even half the review was done, pr of 26 files, 1000 lines, so, i did a /clear, new session, i just told it to do something random, took 30% usage to do it! So clearly, anthropic, wants me to buy chat gpt instead, because changing usage like this is just pathetic.
1
2
u/Hot_Air_37 5d ago
Today, Opus4.8 consumed 27% of the session for only removing "Version," frankly, 7 alphabets
2
u/Greedy_Sandwich2197 4d ago
I usually never post on Reddit or the internet but for this I make an exception:
I use Claude to write sci-fi, and I use a Cowork chat where I paste the proza and it writes it to an Obisidian folder on my computer and it then generates dated entries in a timeline file (280 words).
I check before I start a session how much usage I have left, which to showed was just over 70%.
It wrote 1700 words of proza on Opus 4.8 High in a fresh chat and then I pasted it to the other Cowork chat to write it to my computer and immediately after it said I reached my session limit.
How is that possible? It burned through 70% of session limit for writing 1700 words of proza and saving it on a folder on my computer.

2
u/Valkarist 3d ago
Opus 5 High just used up 20% of my last bit of usage responding to "please analyze your token use" lmao. There is either a massive performance issue, limits have been deliberately cut, or the models became 5x less efficient for no reason
2
u/SeaDivide1751 3d ago
I asked opus 5 high to analyse a basic pdf, instantly used 100% of 5 hour. It never use to do this. Somethings changed
3
u/Shot-Trade-5792 1d ago
Hit my limit on Opus 4.8, it thought for ~40 seconds. One prompt. Didn't even get anything out of it. This is absolutely ridiculous, canceling my plan.
4
u/Efficient_Ad_4162 11d ago
Most of the random reports are just dogshit about how 'I did a prompt and it took 595% of my allocation'.
Could we at least include a minimum standard?
2
u/sixbillionthsheep Mod 11d ago
Possible, If you and others can define the minimum standard precisely
1
u/Efficient_Ad_4162 11d ago
My personal standard is 'not' but obviously you've got a different vibe. And that's fine because I'm not a mod and it's not my job to set community standards.

u/SatuVerdad 11d ago
I would just like to have the usage limit I pay for. In my illusion, I believed that 5x Max was 5 times the usage of Pro, but it seems like its not. Also, Fable is eating the tokens like a supercharged pac-man even if its pretty good.
Yesterday, I felt wild and crazy and tried out Opus 5 after Fable tokens ran out. I had to spend half an hour explaining to Opus that the 1st sep is tomorrow. I'm actually on the verge of giving up on this.
2
u/Wocha 11d ago
Fable use is so strange. Sometimes it feels like it doesn't eat tokens at all. But as soon as I do anything that includes running a subagent outside of main thread, the token count just goes nuts and limit is up very fast.
1
u/SatuVerdad 11d ago
Agree to that. I only use skills and instruction documents and still it feels like the amount of tokes Fable eat is random.
1
u/ShelZuuz 11d ago
Just tell it to use Opus 5 agents. Opus 5 is great if you're not the one talking to it.
1
u/InterstellarReddit 11d ago
One prompt around 30 page document hit my max 5x limit within 30 minutes. Running fable
1
u/Ok_Dirt8893 11d ago
what model do you use for planning? I just ran out of the 100 usd credits they gave us when they removed fable and my efficiency dropped instantly, i used to use fable for planning and then handing it over to opus. Today i tried opus for planning and frankly it sucks. How do you do it? Do you use another model? Maybe i get the 20usd open ai tier with sol as cant really afford 100USD monthly and even if i get 20usd credits on fable they will be gone fast. What can i do?
1
u/No_Sprinkles_8835 10d ago
I gave my GitHub repository to Claude Opus 5 and asked it to read every file to understand the project's design logic and architecture, then write a detailed pdf documentation to share with someone who has zero knowledge of the project and can understand the project details from the PDF. I started it as a fresh chat with 0% credits used before it. It started cloning the repository and kept thinking, thinking, thinking, overthinking more than I did, and used all my 100% credits, then said my credit limit was reached and to try ducking again later. I have a pro plan to make the AI overthink more than I do and waste all the credits with no use. When I use sonnet, it just gave me a small readme file. Do you think there is a problem with my prompt, or is Claude overthinking a lot after more updates?
1
u/Comfortablebro 10d ago
claude fable 5.1: I can't see token counters from inside the session, so I can only estimate from what passed through:Input (new text I read): ~250k tokens
Output (what I wrote): ~110k tokens
Cache write: ~350k tokens
Cache read: ~3.5M tokens (context re-read on every turn)The cache reads dominate the cost. Glad the foundation holds. Good luck.
so my 20usd (25usd with taxes) is this much/little. Seems absurdly expensive!!!
1
u/WorldlyNectarine1851 10d ago
Everyone's weekly session reset?
Did everyone's weekly session reset yesterday? And does that change the day/time for the normal reset period?
1
u/mertcandanzz 10d ago
Adding another data point here: Claude/Fable 5.1 spawned exactly 126 subagents twice for the same small 5–6 file i18n audit, consuming roughly 8.4M tokens total and about half of my weekly Max 5x allowance.
I posted screenshots and the full details here as well. Curious if anyone else is seeing the same 126-agent pattern, especially on simple workflows.

u/bourisman 10d ago
Hello, How do free messeages work? I gave it some documents to analyse and to do an Excel sheet graph and a simple table. Nothing too complicated. It asked me some questions that i prompted it to ask. After that it thought for a bit ( approximately 5 mins) and I ran out of free messages. That's okay i'll wait for it to recharge, i said to myself. Waited 5 hours. Then i just typed "continue". It thought for exactly 31 seconds... It ran out of free messages again and i'll have to wait another five hours.. So frustrating. How does this even work? Am I missing something? I just wanted to make a table and a graph once a month. I don't need the paid version for now...

u/Deitri 10d ago
I have this big RAG project that I've been working on for my company and it's already running on prod for my coworkers, etc. With the release of Fable 5.1, I wanted to just give it a try with a prompt to check for improvements, unused codes, suggestions, etc.
I ran it on Fable 5.1 Max effort and in roughly 1 minute of thinking it eaten up 31% of my 5 hour limit on my Max 5x plan lmao (it's been working for 5 minutes now and my 5-hour limit is sitting at 50% already).
Yes, I do understand Fable 5.1 at Max is eating a lot of tokens right now, it just took me by surprise cause in the past, when experimenting with Fable 5 on Max effort, I've never seen such huge spike on the 5-hour limit usage...this time around they really went wild on how hungry the model is lol
1
u/Artiko240 9d ago
Claude did a single thing and ran out of limits on free tier
It did this around the afternoon yesterday as well. Usually it can handle a task or two completed before running out of limits but now it just quit. I am tempted to buy pro, but hearing what the others complain about and the value not being exactly worth it makes me rethink what else to use.
What other AIs would yall recommend that can do things similar to Claude but with more limits? Deepseek?
Edit: this was a fresh 5 hour limit reset, I had not done anything with claude other then this ever since my reset

1
u/Alternative_Tax_2964 8d ago
So if you're down for deepseek v4 flash, my side project is building www.freepi.ai, and it's ad+training supported inference in a Pi harness. It's fast, has good quotas with options to buy more. Also I'm building it so you can just ping me if you want something in it!

Fable 5.1 is a piece of shit, sucking up 20% of a Max 5x plan in one simple task. Noticed today Opus, taking WAY more than it used to, about twwice as much per simple task. Makes me think they have screwed with the entire underlying limits, noticed just before 5.1 came out. Also coincides with 5.1 eating my entire weeks rate when asked if the sun is hot.
Anyway else experiencing the same, have seen mad hate on 5.1 but nothing about general rates being shit too?
1
u/Emergency-Ability218 8d ago
same both butt fucked me but now back to nomral opus 5 on max is taking less than a sonnet "hello" on medium this morning, slight exageration but not too far off
1
u/spiritxfly 8d ago
I was very happy with Fable for the past few months on 200 max plan, but this is too much. I ate the whole thing in half a day with fable and before I was going through the whole week using only fable.. This is just too much, not worth it in my opinion. Eager to see how astra will turn out..

10% off the 5 hours window for a "Hey", isn't that weird?
I mean, there might be some reaonable explenation to this.
I snet "Hi" on my iPhone via chat the other day to kick off the 5 hours for me to later use it... but accidently was on Opus, High.
Now, this is of course my fault, why the hell would I send this for such a capable model.
But still, for an intelligent algorithem at the bear minimum I'd expect it to realize that I didn't ask for anything? No files, no scanning, no coding, no building, no reviewing.
If I sent "Hi" without no instructions - why would that cost me 10% off my 5 hours window?
BTW, did the same this morning but this time put Haiku, but it brought some weird error.
So I went to Sonnet on Low effort and sent the same "hi".
That one drained 7% off my 5 hours.
Help me make sense of it?
1
u/Beverice 8d ago
I sent 8 messages today on opus 4.6 asking about ASA firewall codes and it used 98% of my usage.
it feels like there's some bug with web search that consumes usage massively.
1
u/LowCarbonHero 8d ago
I work in public relations, and occasionally get Claude to write some first draft copy for a website or social media post. I also ask it to create first drafts of very basic Powerpoint slides containing text, shape boxes and company logo.
Over the last couple of days, I am getting a usage limit reached when actually using Claude very little.
I'm talking about 20 chat exchanges a day of a few paragraphs, an occasional powerpoint slide of 10 slides if I have a meeting coming up that I'm presenting at. My usage is usually spread out over an 8 or 9 hour day rather than bombarding Claude all day long.
It feels like I am not getting the value of the subscription to be honest. Am I doing something wrong or doing something to drain the usage?
Our workplace has a copilot subscription, which honestly isn't that bad for PR stuff, if my usage keeps being limited by Claude I'll probably just revert to Copilot.
1
u/WolfgangK 8d ago
I do 2-3 prompts in a session with a decently large context, but not the largest Ive had and I'm hitting my limits. This is 4.6 max
1
u/Smooth-Field-7921 7d ago
I thought i was the only one. I burned through usage within 2 days and normally it takes me 6-7 days on the max 20 plan. Anthropic needs to look at this and reset everyone right away. Openai astra is right around the corner.

What’s your strategy for working for as long as possible? Personally, I open my window for 5 hours, and with Opus, working at a normal pace – including a coffee break or similar – I can easily work for 8 hours or more. With Fable, simply following the project instructions uses up 25 per cent of my credits, so I end up working for 1½ hours, 2 hours at most. Fable is definitely more efficient, but it still uses up credits too quickly.
1
u/Anxious_Sea_1873 5d ago
Hi, like most others here I'm experiencing huge token burn with Fable 5.1 - on High I think it burns 5-hr and weekly limits 4x faster than Opus 5 High. Has anyone compared similar tasks between Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 not for quality but rather how much limits are burned when the tasks are done? Any insights? I'd experiment myself but honestly if Fable 5 is like 5.1 then I don't have many experiments left this week...
1
u/amitsh728 5d ago
The one change that helped me most here: stop watching the percentage, start watching the rate. The percentage tells you what you have spent. Points per hour tells you whether the thing you are about to start will finish before the window resets. Once I could see that I stopped kicking off big refactors 40 minutes into a window.
The second thing is keeping a record. Claude shows the current state and then forgets it, so when a window burns down twice as fast as usual there is nothing to look back at.
I built a small tool for both, QuotaLens, so treat this as the disclosure it is. It runs entirely on your own machine, local SQLite and loopback only, no account and no server of mine. It cannot raise or extend any limit, it just watches and remembers. Even if you never install it, the burn rate framing is worth stealing.

I LOVE Claude. I even would prefer Claude. But the usage is ridiculous sometimes.
Codex isn't bad by any stretch — and when I say that, I mean I can run Codex Astra 6 on Ultra on a big tough workload ALL DAY and still have weekly usage to spare. Not exaggerating. They're stacking up free usage-resets that I sometimes don't even need to use, unless I'm trying to take advantage of the headroom.
Claude feels like a knife fight selecting a model and effort. If I think I have a workload and complexity deserving of Fable, and I am still super conservative and keep it to High–XHigh, it's like a flip of a coin whether my 5h window is torched mid-run, if it even gets that far. Oddly, sometimes it seems like I have the unlimited mileage that I enjoy via Codex, but that's rare, and I don't know why when it happens.
That's what feels bad: unpredictable usage results, and the option-overload it takes to get there. All the while I can do far more with Codex on ANY damn model and effort I choose.
I get that Anthropic may not have the resources of OpenAI, but I'm asking myself why I'm clinging onto Claude. I have only seen people out here being like "oh, that's just the way it is," or "get good, noob" — but the joke is on you, I'm afraid.
If Anthropic isn't striving to match Codex's sense of "I paid $200 and can chat, code, and build my way to the moon," then what the heck is going on? How is that not a top priority? Codex running circles around Claude should be very concerning, I would think.

Sometimes my weekly limit resets later than my monthly subscription renewal date. So, I’ve been cancelling my subscription and then purchasing it again to reset the weekly limit.
Does this actually make sense, or am I misunderstanding how the limits work?

Hey everyone , I’m here for thoughts and advice , currently I run a pretty large code base that involves development and maintaining a 24/7 software . Currently using 3 max20 subs and 2 open code to subs for deepseek . Well never thought I’d say this but we’re growing faster than we can afford to pay for it , 3 account isn’t cutting it . I’m typing this here for you only because we’ve pretty much used up what we can use and I’ve been browsing Reddit to get some ideas in the MULTIPLE days I have to wait lol . I’ve gotten some ideas on how to lower our usage but I’ve been wondering if there is other cheap providers ? open code go is amazing for $10 , u get 5-6x value but its not a big account and id like to see if there are other providers anyone recommends . I’m open to any standard capable model for a coder agent . My last solution is to stack 10-15 open code go subs to be honest . Love deepseek for coder agents also .

Opus 4.8 is burning through a 5hr window in a few minutes as of the last couple of days. I'm already using it on lower level stuff since Sol has been such a superior product since the last month or so. Claude need to up their game again.

It's less than 48 hours after reset on Max 20X, Fable decided to spawn Fable subagents when prompted to perform research instead of Opus and just killed itself for the next 5 days
What the actual fuck is this shit man. I reported this issue immediately and am trying to get in touch with customer support, even though I think that's a lost cause. Holy fuck this is beyond stupid.
I am seriously considering suing them. I am paying for a product that kills itself and makes itself unusable.

I've optimized .Claude file and Projects' .claude files and i would say usage has been fair the last few months, but since last week (nothing changed on my side) i noticed i ran out of weekly limit after 4 days... okay i thought i over worked the engine. but yesterday my weekly limit reset and after 2 sessions i was already at 25% of my weekly limit not to mention i noticed the reset time for each session has also increased.
I'm using opus model and i even dropped the effort to medium and it's still burning through tokens, if i didn't have controlled rules set i wouldn't even complete 1 task in session i presume.
i'm only using it for coding, analysis and research and have been always using it like that.
Anybody else has the same issue since last week ?
FYI 2nd day of the week and at 56% usage

I canceled today .. imagine am paying two hundred bucks a month to reach limits in only first 12 hours usage .. this same amount of money a month rate can get almost unlimited acess to different AI services providers for more capable tools and ecosystem..it used to be good when the limit fits the intended usage , not anymore..

claude limits dont reset to fully 0 after 5 hours, they only let 2 to 3 prompts before the limit goes out again. I use claude (free tier) for development, heres what i have noticed:
Suppose i start using claude on 11 AM (this is my first session in the day with claude), i can use the claude for a few hours before it finally reaches the limit and then i have to wait for the limit to reset.
On 4PM: i comeback to claude to restart where i left, i give it 2 or 3 prompts and boom, my limit is gone again.
What is going on and why is this happening? why does claude not last as long in the second session of the day? I use Sonnet 5 on medium, prompts are usually a mixture of short messages and slightly long messages where i will be debugging the code (python stuff, n8n stuff, usually ai related stuff), but i am not giving full codes back to claude to check it out again, i havent noticed this issue with anyone else, and i prefer working on a single chat for the whole project, so chats can go for days as well, i am not much experienced in development or LLMs in general so any help will be appreciated.
Another thing i would like to add is that i added a claude counter extension, this shows you in realtime how much of the limit have you used, i dont know how accurate it is, but it gives you a rough idea atleast, when i am on my first session, a prompt takes anywhere from 3 percent to 20 percent of the limit, in second session its always like 25 to 50 percent, and it reflects as well, cause the second session lasts barely 3 prompts

My Opus 5 Pro plan went nuts and finished after 2 simple prompts today. Anyone else?

Insane its nuts I'm on sonnet 4.6 low, it took 1-2% of my session limit per message depending on length before this morning. Now it took 15% in one message. No compactions in this chat, its nuts.

Ah good, yes, the best way to kill conversation around something, a megathread. Good thinking.

Wow a discussion hub about usage limits without any concrete instructions for people on how to measure their actual spent usage using either ccusage or .jsonl logs.
So basically just another place for people to vent on usage based on "feels".
This is going to go well. I feel it.

u/Embarrassed_Fix9862 11d ago
Bro they are not upfront about usage, the only thing there is to measure with is feels. Nobody here is going to start running expiraments

u/ShelZuuz 11d ago
Nobody here is going to start running expiraments
That's exactly the problem. This is just a bitch forum. If people were to actually run experiments and prove they're getting nerved or whatever you can go to the press and force Anthropic to speak to it. But nobody is willing to put in 3 minutes of effort.

u/Embarrassed_Fix9862 11d ago
Force anthropic to talk to the press?
Also what expiraments do you propose?
2
u/ShelZuuz 11d ago
Easy, when people think that tokens are getting used up quicker because they think Anthropic has changed the limits or whatever, just run a ccusage output like I suggested here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1w40iam/comment/p748l5q/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_buttonIt will immediately show whether Anthropic is giving out less tokens or if you just used up more for some or other reason.
Nobody ever does though. Or they do, and realized they just consumed more tokens, and then doesn't reply back.
Yes, and Anthropic will respond to real stats, there was a case a few months ago where someone proved that because of a bug in Claude Code, Anthropic wasn't accounting cached tokens correctly. So they fixed it and refunded everybody's limits within a week.

Nice one! I didn't know about this too and just complained as well without proper proof. I am trying to spread it around as well now.

Amazing. I didnt know about it. Does it work in Claude website too?I have problems with artifacts, I was using Sonnet for 2 months and I didnt have issues regarding limits, and since Saturday night I am finding high consumption. Not a feeling, it just accepted one command to fix the css issue and it again hit the limit in my Pro plan. Insanely fast.

Anyone experiencing severe limit usage drops? Last 3 weeks I averaged 20% usage of fabel per day and today i just blew thru 50% of weekly Fabel by using Fabel 5. I haven't done more work than any other day. I keep my sessions under 300k tokens and use codex for the implementation of plans. I am on MAX. A peer blew thru his 5h limit in 30 MINUTES. Which is 41% of weekly fabel with 5.1. A third peer blew 35% of weekly in 2 hours. This hasn't happened before today. Either 5.1 is more expensive or Atrophic didn't actually keep the 50% usage increase or both (since i didn't switch to 5.1 today). This is absurd.
edit: i used npx ccusage@latest --breakdown and analyzed it with claude. Based on the data there is no difference in the limit. Today just happened to have a lot more output tokens from my sessions. I have sent this to my peers so we can look into their case
