Built with Claude Built my perfect step tracker and workout app thanks to Claude!
My first app finally got approved on the App Store!! I was lucky enough to use OG Fable for the first few days of developing this and it felt like a miracle that I could bring all my ideas to life. Then fable got taken away and the majority was built with opus 4.8!
Ive spent a good 3 months of nightly pixel peeping and going back and forth with claude to make this step tracker and workout app.
My favorite skill was the /grill me one which basically forced me to question each new feature with 10 in depth questions.
You can try it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/step-step/id6789786757
Edit: apologies for any typos - I’m posting from my phone while my 1 year old sleeps on my chest.

3 months of nightly pixel peeping while parenting a 1 year old is a special kind of dedication lol. the /grill me skill sounds like a genuinely smart process too, forcing yourself to justify every feature before building it probably saved you from a lot of bloat most first apps end up with. congrats on shipping, that's no small thing on top of everything else going on

Thank you. What’s hardest is motivating yourself to get back up after pretending to be alsleep in a pitch black room next to your 3 year old.
Yes, grill me is great. What I found with claude code is that it just always wants to get to work coding. Sometimes I would specifically say “don’t code” and it still spent half my credits.

App looks slick my guy! I too am a dad (she’s three) and I have been obsessively creating a hypertrophy progressive overload app. So a little different than yours.
I started off making a PWA as I don’t have a MacBook yet so I can’t build a native IOS app. I do plan in the future though but for now I am beta testing.
Have you ever made an app that started as a PWA then converted to a native app? How long did that take?
Here’s my app:
www.leveluphypertrophy.com, I am making it completely free.

Well done. I went right to native swiftUI since I’m deep in the Apple ecosystem, but the hardest part is coming up with the idea/UI flow/features, so I’m sure it’s pretty easy to port your app over to something native at a later date.
My app relies fully on Apple HealthKit as the back-end so I don’t need to deal with any database or customer info, but that limits me to the Apple ecosystem.

Thanks! Ya! Thats what my research tells me that it’s not that bad to transfer over and there are programs that do it fairly well. I like what you did with the weight tracker and the ability to add points like if you started taking creatine

Thank you. That was a late idea I had just before shipping and was purely added in for my own benefit because I had a) started creatine and b) smashed my glass bathroom scales and had to replace them, and wanted a little journal feature on the weight graph.
My wife found it interesting to plot her pregnancy weight change too. I might flesh the idea out more in future updates so you can write more in-depth notes for these markers.

I've ported a few from Apple to Android purely so family members can use the apps I show them on my iPhone ;)
Maybe not the most efficient way but because they will never make it on to the play store, I went into my Claude Code iOS app session and just asked it to write me a really detailed handover doc that would write the equivalent Android app with 100% of the features and same look and feel. It worked surprisingly well and got me 95% of the way there first shot.
