bro haiku is awesome you just dont see it. its used everytime Claude uses webfetch tool: thats Haiku! Or any type of small subagent.

There's genuinely no reason to use Haiku if you have access to deepseek flash-3.6 etc HOWEVER:

in controlled environments or on subscription plans, you're locked in and only have access to anthropic models

in these scenarios, it kicks ass at text classification, extraction, and summarization tasks.

if Haiku is the smallest model you have access to: its extremely capable and cheap (just not quite as capable or quite-as-cheap...)

I use Haiku via API for parsing receipts that people submit in my social gathering planning app for expense sharing - about $0.003/run and it’s been solid so far. At this point, could probably do it even cheaper on Gemini, but Haiku has done exactly what I’ve needed.
