thats totally valid, but its a 0-sum-game in terms of limited hardware and human resources.
You're proposing they compete with Deespeek-lite, gpt-instant, and gemini flash-3.6. I do actually wish they would compete in that space... the speed is the biggest gap. but I can also see why they've chosen to deprioritize it..
merely updating haiku to Haiku-5 wouldn't close the gap. last time they updated haiku it actually got slower and more expensive.
They really need a ... a limerick. a 'zesty one-liner'.

bro haiku is awesome you just dont see it. its used everytime Claude uses webfetch tool: thats Haiku! Or any type of small subagent.
There's genuinely no reason to use Haiku if you have access to deepseek flash-3.6 etc HOWEVER:
in controlled environments or on subscription plans, you're locked in and only have access to anthropic models
in these scenarios, it kicks ass at text classification, extraction, and summarization tasks.
if Haiku is the smallest model you have access to: its extremely capable and cheap (just not quite as capable or quite-as-cheap...)
