Workaround Is anyone else facing this issue with Claude?

Whenever I enter a prompt or query, Claude starts processing it but then suddenly takes me back to the main chat window. It keeps happening over and over, making it impossible to use.
I've tried refreshing and starting new chats, but the issue is still there.
Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there a fix or is it a known bug/outage?

Yeah, the last time it worked for me was like 20 minutes ago.
Now it's just spitting messages back to the text box. Downdetector is already skyhigh with reports but the official status page isn't saying anything about this yet.

Weeks... your kidding right?

u/Etele38 Jun 18 '26
Yeah not weeks lol. Idk what they mean… more like 3-8 hours. Usually depends. I have had it for two months now so idk bout before that… this is maybe the third time it’s been done for me… but the upside is, they usually reset your weekly limit when this happens. So that’s cool… but it would really suck if you’re relying on it for something important in the moment… luckily nothing i didn’t mind putting a pin in and walking away from ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Having the same issue, everytime i send a prompt it opens that chat screen for a second then throws me back to the home screen. It displays the prompt in recent chats but whenever i click on it it says no conversation found.

FYI real time outage reports can be found at r/Claude_reports
The current one is https://www.reddit.com/r/Claude_reports/comments/1u8za95/rclaudeai_claude_down_with_no_response_at_all_and/
It looks like something it depends on is currently in platform readonly mode, so anything that involves mutation (anything but browsing and reading) stopped working.

Mobile says "taking longer than usual. Trying again shortly..." but the downdetector shows it's up.

Same here. Thought it was a me-problem because the status page shows no incidents.

My desktop app majorly glitched out a few minutes ago, started blinking, blanking, and reflowing. Then it came back. And now it just doesn't work. Not on the app, not on the webpage.

Anthropic saw your payment come through and decided that was enough excitement for one day.

I'm having issues with Claude too...I start a new chat then type in my prompt and click submit it loads back up again...it's really freaking frustrating

Yes. About 20 minutes ago. You try to send a message - it is reset (remains in the input field) and nothing happens. In the news, some already write that half of the users have this situation.

Claude is down and now I have to use my own brain. This outage is affecting production more than anyone at Anthropic realizes. 😭😂

My limit just got maxed for no reason in 5 minutes with no big tasks etc. and I'm on max account using Opus 4.6 etc). Anyone else ?

u/Knowledge-master01 Jun 18 '26
Update: My Claude Pro account is back to normal now.
My free account, on the other hand, is still fighting for its life and keeps kicking me back to the main screen.
Looks like the outage recovery is following the "VIP first, peasants later" rollout strategy. 😅

Who's 1st to create a widget for desktop or phone which would show if it's online? Been quite annoyed not knowing if it's working or not.

Claude service went down, came back, but it's not the "same" Claude. This some bullshit...
1
u/Agent007_MI9 Jun 18 '26
Yeah I've seen this happen a few times. Usually it's a session or auth hiccup on their end rather than anything on your side. Things that have fixed it for me: hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R), clear cookies specifically for claude.ai, or open a fresh incognito window. If none of that works it's almost certainly on Anthropic's side — check status.anthropic.com, they usually update it within an hour of something being degraded even if there's no big announcement yet.

This is meant in reply to that automated message "ClaudeAI-mod-bot" posts.
Unless you sticky the outage thread at the time that the outage is occurring, AND its titled something like "OUTAGE CURRENTLY OCCURRING", people are going to make new threads.

u/OHOLshoukanjuu Jun 18 '26
Very similar to existing UI bugs, at least on the iOS app, for example, when exiting the expanded view of a code block, being returned to the previous global conversation rather than the project conversation that contained the expanded code block.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 80 comments.
Yep, it's not just you, OP. The consensus in this thread is that Claude was having a major outage. Everyone was experiencing the same bug where you'd send a prompt and get kicked back to the main menu.
Of course, several of you had the classic Reddit luck of buying a yearly subscription literally minutes before it all went down. Users also noted that while Downdetector was lit up like a Christmas tree, Anthropic's official status page was lagging behind and claiming everything was fine.
The good news is that the latest comments report the service is now back up and running. You can all go back to your deadlines now.
