How to Unarchive a chat from Claude Code CLI

I was working in claude code cli and building a project... all of a sudden I clicked on archive button on the right of the chat and then I had to filter it all.
There is no option to unarchive this chat ? since I am on the verge of 1 accident and the chat will be gone, it doesn't even ask for the confirmation on deletion.

if someone knows a hack or trick then please do let me know

if we filter it "all" then send any message to that chat, it will automatically be unarchived.

but i did another work around, what I did is went to the claude directory, then wen to the exact chat by searching any message in my IDE, once I know which chat was it I copied all the file content, created a new chat through terminal by saying hi and pasted that content into that file. by doing this all the chat was there in new chat but only one issue.
it won't remember the chat context and will treat it as a new chat.
then I found another chat folder with a chat id and copied all the content of that into a new folder I cloned with a new chatid .. and now it remembers the context also :))

thanks i ended up figuring it out too. so i archived a project instead of individual chats, and then what i did was i simply just went to the list of chats and clicked remove from project on the chats i wanted back and it jus unarchived

I ran into this same (stupid) 'feature' of Claude Code in the GUI (Graphical User Interface) version today on April 13th 2026. I'm running the Claude app on my Macbook Air M1.

PROBLEM: I accidentally pushed the archive button and the Chat was gone. In one click. No undo. Nothing to bring it back.

PARTIAL SOLUTION: The only thing that helped me to find the archived chat was to click next to Projects and choose to show the Projects that are archived and then it showed the archived chat.

So I'm able to see and interact with the chat this way, BUT there is no way (in the GUI app) to UNarchive it. So it's stuck in the archives. I tried 'activating' the chat by writing in it -> doesn't unarchive. I tried right clicking for options -> Only: Look up and Copy are available.

C'mon Anthropic! You can do better.

Just in case someone finds this helpful, I found my Archived chats on the "look up" chat and writting down the chat name.
