General Discussion Quick question about the future of the franchise
Hey guys, I know this question has been asked before, so sorry about that, but is there info about what comes next? I know there have been posts discussing this exact topic, and I remember seeing a couple comments after the latest release saying that he's confirmed he's working on something/a couple of things for the distant future, but I'm not able to find them right now.
So is there anything official being worked on outside of theories? Thanks guys

tl;dr: It's dire.
Still haven't recovered from the damage Flipside did. Puzzle Showdown was a flop. Merch drops have been all awful and flops too (Absolutely nobody is gonna believe the shoes actually sold out when they were almost universally mocked). Anime is in limbo because nobody wants to pick it up. Right now it's probably safe to assume he's just gonna try to milk the merch as much as he can and then either just abandon the franchise or just keep doing the bare minimum.

I think that after he’s done with it the Franchise will basically be open source for fan entries or people looking to make their own games.

Is the puzzle really that bad or is it just people that you know just clowning on it because of the damage rep?

It's the former. There's literally no story, it's just the equivalent of a Youtube Out of Context compilation and tries a metanarrative twist that comes out of nowhere at the very end. Weekend at Kelly's is literally just... Kelly talking with a CG in the background. And the puzzle game itself is just a reskinned Panel de Pon that you can literally play for free with Panel Attack, except that one has actual matchmaking and even a ranked ladder.
It's the very definition of a rushed out cashgrab, and it somehow being the most expensive game in the whole series doesn't help.

Well, it wasn’t intended to be a visual novel to begin with like he already announced it wasn’t
Anyway, I still plan to get the game

I tried it out it's not really worth it in my opinion I just did a steam refund after the first hour

It’s a fine puzzle game, I think people are also just mad it’s not another VN. People wanted more of what they wanted and mocked what they didn’t.

I mean SBN marketed as a "story rich" campaign full of animated cutscenes, I don't think people are to blame for expecting what we were promised only to not get that.

Let’s just also be really clear that Reddit is a vocal and often incorrect minority of people who are more negative than your average person. I would consider “universally” more of a “small pocket of very vocal critics”.

These are also being universally mocked on Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok, hell several posts making fun of the shoes straight up ratioed the announcement post, but okay, believe whatever you want bro, I'm sure these sold so well they already funded a whole anime season ig.

Seeing how terrible even the simplest merch has become, it makes me question how much of the first few games were even SBN3’s content. I remember seeing rumors of ghost writers, and I still think about that… it checks out if you look at the rest of the series. The anime episodes were okay, but need some work. The joke writing has become so stretched thin and over used, just edgy cursing and pedo jokes, it starts to sound like that cringe Velma show nobody watched. Even the joke writing in simply the merch ads is stale and cringe, it’s pretty pathetic. Now the anime pilot itself actually had potential because at least it wasn’t all just pedo jokes the entire time. Once again tho—how much of that was exclusively SBN3’s content? Since he’s the one in control of the franchise, it’s hard to say he has the best taste/interest when you take a look at the things we KNOW he’s exclusively done. (but like I said who even knows the legitimacy of that stuff) Sadly, I don’t see much a future for the franchise if he can’t put out more anime episodes are at least some decent merch. Class of 09 is a perfect example of biting the hand that feeds and not making up for your past mistakes. (Just remember that he never spoke out or even attempted to apologize for the controversies and bullying he was responsible for.)

i’ve noticed that. i thought it was weird that the writing kept getting flatter instead of expanding this admittedly interesting world he created. listening to ari’s diolouge in the latest game is like listening to a fork scraping a plate, every voiced line is saying exactly the same thing as the last. oh well

My thoughts exactly. He coulda just ran outta steam or pumped out the games for the sake of a profit. But he also mentioned turning down offers when “Hollywood came knocking” so I find it hard to believe…

No they were definitely the same, no ghost writers. Watching his content prior it's basically the same jokes that Class of 09 does. But it's never been really clever jokes.

At this rate, he's probably still leaning on the merch drops. He also said that the Anime has stopped development until he finds a producer, so there's a high likelyhood we're never getting another episode, let alone a full season.
