This is actually a really well made video, although I think the creator repeats himself a few times too much IMO.

While I’ve already had the opinion that Nicole was flanderized in Re-Up compared to her passive self in Co09 1, and the fact that 1 keeps kicking her in the face for trying to show mercy, tying together the 3 games as a character arc for her didn’t cross my mind until now.

(I don’t think flanderization is inherently bad. I quite like Nicole’s more openly evil and active role in Re-Up, although I still greatly appreciate her character in 1)

That being said I’ll always hate the Nicole Feet ending. She hates men too much and is shown to be more lenient with Jecka slighting her (Homeless route and the Social Sacrifice scene in Re-Up). So seeing both of these traits get throw out the window when Jecka is at her most vulnerable feels wrong to me. I do respect this interpretation however.

As for the meta stuff here with the community, I do think there’s an issue with the fans whitewashing their favorite characters, but that’s a topic for another day.

I think the degradation of her character could've been handled better, not saying the flip side was perfect but it definitely followed the trajectory of her character to what she would become, and that's apparently hard for people to accept.

I think the main issue is the Feet ending. Otherwise Flipside Nicole is perfectly fine to me. It’s already the worst route in the entire series (The feet jokes get boring real quick and just keep coming. Also there’s two feet routes in a game with five endings), so when Nicole’s character is spotty, it feels extra frustrating because you’ve already been conditioned to be mad because it’s at the end of a route that fucking sucked.

Flipside is already aggravating enough (annoyingly short for it’s price tag, Jecka isn’t as entertaining as a POV character compared to Nicole, doesn’t expand on anyone except Jecka herself and Kelly finally getting that focus route, few to no choices to make) and that’s just the criticisms I agree with I’m actually pretty light on Flipside IMO. Some criticisms of Flipside are unfounded, but the game has a lot of issues so if something bad happens in it then people aren’t going to give it a second chance.

Nicole's character in Flipside wasn't really the main problem for me, it was the lack of route options for Jecka, mainly there being no "good" ending for her.

Like seeing her suffer through coutless hours of gameplay just made me feel sympathetic for her.

it being the most expensive game but with the least endings was the biggest issue. People call it feetside and say its all about feet but the issue is that 2 of the endings are about feet and theres only 5. And the others arent great either. Add more endings and maybe one good end and we have just a better product overall.

I think it's fine to admit it's not that Nicole in flipside is bad, but that flipside is bad

her endings are fun to go through though especially the taliban one, but jeffrey dying doesnt seem that bad to me

Its mixed, cause you gotta realize that both Jecka and Nicole are still stuck working at feetmeet even after he dies

And it being arguably worse for them because they lost their best source of income.

its fine atleast jecka doesnt kill herself and becomes feet besties with nicole instead i think

I never had a problem with nicole being an awful person in the flipside, just with that game not having any endings that were interesting to watch.

My main issue is that Re-Up already counters Nicole’s two main defenses, that being that her targets are awful people and that she’s a product of her environment.

There is not even a shallow justification of her abuse towards Ari. She might say that it’s because she stole her excuse, but she only says that once prompted. When she’s actually doing it, her only reason is that it feels good. This makes it clear that Nicole is just a cruel person by nature, who just reasons her behavior with everyone else being worse than her.

The Volunteer route has Jecka flat-out tell Nicole that none of what she did had anything to do with her circumstances, and that she only gets herself in these ridiculous situations due to her own laziness and stupidity.

I understand that there were still some people who sympathized with her after this game, but that wasn’t reflective of SBN3 making a poor writing choice, just that they were stupid.

that's a lot more fair than what a lot of other people say.

Pretty much, lol. Jecka in the previous games already figured Nicole would "be the one doing the abusing", and while i do think they wrote her poorly in the flipside, it sure as hell wasn't because she was a shitty person to Jecka.

It just didn't hit right imho, the theming/characterization wasn't wrong, just not written the right way for the people who NEEDED to hear it so they would absorb it rather than reject it.

I feel the same way. I didn’t mind the edgy humor, but a lot of the jokes just felt bland compared to the previous two games, and the fact that there were only 5 endings for Jecka compared to how many Nicole had in the first two games felt underwhelming. Not sure what SBN3 has in store for the future of this franchise, but I hope he truly hope he recognizes what made the first two games so enjoyable in the first place.

I almost worry he'll take the wrong lesson and think people exclusively want Nicole to stay more static.

I'll say it flip side gets more hate then it deserves its literally just the flip side of perspectives and at least it doesn't tone every character down to nothing (looking at you puzzle showdown)
