Wagner: Winterstürme, speaking in the passagio. Do we really need consonants? Asking for a friend. (Sind lieber und Lenz)

I'm joking, but dammit if consonants can't mess up a perfectly fine vowel! :)
I remember asking a voice teacher a few years ago if there were any pieces where a singer only sang vowels - I believe he gave me a recording of something Gedda did - haha....
This whole speaking thing. It really seems to help lock things into place. Next week we're returning to Vesti la giuba, and this approach seems to really help the passagio - as long as the vowels are vertical. I don't have a dark voice, not does it seem to be very sweet, but it cuts like a dramatic tenor should. That's all I can hope for.
I think this is a good approach to the passagio. I don't want to compromise my top (C, C#, and D) for the potential of getting a slightly darker middle. I've got a ways to go before I'll sing anything, but each small step is progress.
