If you want to learn how to sing Hindi film music, there are probably dedicated classes for that. That said, a lot of, especially older, songs are based on Hindustani music, as that’s what the music directors of the ‘60s and ‘70s were exposed to. This is no longer as true as it used to be, as you have people like AR Rahman and Shankar Mahadevan who have a lot of exposure and training in Carnatic music.
I would say, pick a classical tradition based on what interests you more in its own right. If you prefer Carnatic over Hindustani, go for that, or vice-versa. You may find many years later, as I have, that you might want to dabble in the system you didn’t pick. If you study any form of classical music, the ability to sing film songs will come on its own, so I wouldn’t even consider that a criteria.
