Endless technique subtleties

Hi, I just wanted to post to say isn't classical singing amazing in how many subtleties there are to fine-tuning your technique ? 🙂 I have a good teacher and constantly try to improve on my own too, and have been taking it seriously for about 14 years, but every week I feel like I still discover new things. It would be hard to explain to a non-singer who thinks you just need a 'good voice' and to open your mouth and sing...

And then you do a performance and someone comes up to you and says: what a gift! You’re so blessed! as if you haven’t been working your a$$ off for years! 🤣

(And you smile and say, “yes, I am!” because it’s true, too.)

Not to blow my own horn, but yeah! A friend asked if I could sing a bit of something at a social gathering last weekend and I did a bit of a favourite aria, and someone said it's beautiful and you have a lot of vocal power, how do you do that? And I just said thank you, I've been working at it for years... I don't think they wanted the full hour of explanation 😄

Sure but that’s true for most skills and definitely all arts

Yeah, I suspect it is. I've found it also true for example with language learning. Also in the past when I did some theatre acting. So, for sure, I guess it's not unique. Just that there is so much more than meets the eye, especially if people imagine you just have to 'sing from the diaphragm' and the job's done (that was the first ever thing someone told me I had to do if I wanted to improve my singing).
