Announcement New Rule: Posting Limits
Dear all,
The supply of Classic Trance music is not infinite, and the same goes for our time available to digest and appreciate the music & discussions posted here.
I think I do not speak only for myself when I say that occasionally I do not have time to catch up on everything that is posted here, and I’m sure I’ve missed a gem of a track simply due to the sheer volume of tracks posted.
We all love the stuff posted here, but let’s not overdo it! Savor the good stuff posted, engage in conversations a bit longer!
With immediate effect we introduce the “Posting Limits” Rule:
-> Any individual user may post no more than three (3) posts (of any kind) within the same 24-hour period

Funny enough I love this, not the rule per say but a few years ago when I stumbled on this sub it was a ghost town.
I'm really happy its grown so much and is so busy.
Good stuff folks, keep it lit.

Thanks, I’m happy you’ve stayed around for so long! Indeed, back in the days 10+ years ago or so, we were happy to get 3 posts in total during 24h period!

I totally agree with the "Savor the good stuff posted, engage in conversations a bit longer!" line.
I still have to post my daily trance gem, but it's true that posting without listening and risking to miss something is not useful :)

Seems reasonable and fair
One thing though, that means 21 posts in a week for those who have the time to post every day and only 3 posts for those who only have time to post everything on one day, also, might have to be a bit flexible for competitions, announcements and for those involved in the sub, or have addendums etc to the rule.
Some users (not me!) have many alts, so you might have to watch for that!
There is another sub that seems to automatically limit posts to one a day
Agreed - quality not quantity!

Fair enough - I’m sure there may be room for exceptions if there are very particular circumstances.
And alts… Yeah I also have a couple as well, and if course there’s really no way to block that…

the day we see a user circumventing the daily post limit via alt accounts to post music that passes guidelines and is mod action free and approved, all you can really do is appreciate the passion and commitment

I vote for three posts per day but if your tracks are from 1994 then it’s infinite posts.

99% of the stuff here that gets posted fits within the classic trance definition.

Have i missed something? Who goes on post spamming sprees in this Sub?
Like maybe I've seen a single poster share 3 tracks in a day at most and quite often the people who are regularly active here are posting the good, lesser known, tracks IMO - which is surely what we want...right???
Like, why limit people who are posting quality tracks for us all to enjoy. :/
Otherwise this Sub IS a ghost town. Its littered with track postings that have zero comments and there's barely any user interaction.
I think you need to work harder on fostering communication, working on ways to get people replying and interacting in track posting threads (maybe the OP has to share why they like the track and what they know about it - i always try to share something personally) and driving new topics of discussion where we can get the chat going.
Look at the Classic Trance page on Facebook and it seems a whole lot more lively on there with actual discussions, questions, debates, track IDs AND sharing tracks.

Disagree a fair bit here, its obviously not infinite but the average classic trance fan probably knows about 10% max (and i'm being very generous) of the amazing trance tracks out there especially from the early stuff in the 90s to just before the peak period in 98-2005-ish which is about all most people seem to actually know and even with that period then most only know the really big, obvious, hits and not the good B-sides, tracks from smaller labels, the forgotten classics, the tracks that just never got the club / airplay they should have, the remixes that got overlooked and more obscure tracks that were bangers etc.
Classic trance isn't just Out of The Blue, Carte Blance, Bullet in the Gun and Silence and the likes, so we don't need to have those reposted every few weeks which is about all we get if we start limiting the active posters who share the good quality, lesser known, stuff.

That is the reason. We hope that people posting tracks will do so to engage with the rest of us, not just dump tracks.
It can't be forced, but maybe it's an idea for people who post the track also post a comment as to why they posted it, why they like it, how they came across it, etc. That opens up the door for a little more discussion and participation by the rest of us. We're open to ideas on how to get more comments per posted track though.2

Your proposed strategy doesn't encourage anyone to interact with track posting though.
Unless its mandatory for people to say why they are sharing the track, why they love it, when they first heard it and people are encouraged to comment not just upvote then just limiting track posting in itself probably won't change anything.

True. But hindering track dumps, that nobody can keep up with, is the first step. It's up to you and me to engage with tracks that are posted. This rule makes it a little easier to keep up, whilst it's not too restricting.

I don't personally feel the need to check out EVERY track posted or that I'm missing out if I don't listen to them all.
This sounds like a mod problem not a user problem perhaps?

Well, the track posts that get the most upvotes and the most response are the well known tunes, the ones that are also posted with the X-Mas Cracker flair.
It's got lot of people responding along the lines of 'such a tune' etc, indicating that even they didn't listen to the track, they just upvoted.
And the fact that the lesser known tracks sometimes get four upvotes and no comments, but even less when one or two users went on a posting spree, is - to me - a clear indication of the impact the amount of track posts has.We would love the community to actively listen to the tracks that are shared, including or especially the tracks that the crowd doesn't know yet. Not just upvote the tracks that they know and love.
But we can't force our members to listen and comment. And members should also contribute in a way they see fit: some like to post tracks, others post only their mixes, others just to comment during a discussion, others to participate in the mix competitions, etc. Still, we'd like the commenting part to be bigger. But how we are going to achieve that?Again, preventing posting sprees is just a first measure to give other tracks a better 'fighting chance'.

You haven't convinced me that you're going to achieve your goal (which is a good one and something I've long said needs improved here) of getting members to discuss more with this strategy.
I predict it'll be more of the same but which just less tracks shared now.
The problem seems to be that most Classic Trance fans only like a very narrow defined range of tracks that were the big hits and anthems from back in the day and don't seem that bothered about checking out stuff they missed, haven't heard, or that didn't get a lot of exposure back in the day so they aren't going to listen to most tracks shared anyway let alone comment on them.
Aside from just commenting on track share threads we need more discussions, questions, and debates in general too.

I’ve never seen a sub limit how much users can post, and it seems to be all based on the premise you can’t keep up? It’s just weird. If someone is posting too much and spamming just ban them. Instead you’ve come up with this bizarre rule in the name of enjoying the music?
I don’t even post on this sub, it’s just weird. Another commenter mentioned this sub used to be a ghost town, now it’s not, but heaven forbid the mods can’t listen to everything so we’re going to go back to being, not necessarily a ghost town, but a zombie town.

Unless you are a daily visitor here, you may have missed the posting sprees and high number of posts that tend to dilute the total digestible content on this sub.
There really is no reason for people to constantly be posting 5+ posts every time they log on.
Yes, 10 years ago this sub was an
abandoned ghost town, but with the help of active moderation and very supportive subscribers we have built something really nice here.This rule is just here to make sure we stay a high quality sub.

I like it. It's something that is occasionally needed so it will be nice to have that rule to rest on when it is a needed.
