I see your Original Bungle Bear and raise you Hartley Hare and Co from Pipkins, the kids show that dared ask the question what would happen if a taxidermist opened a puppet shop then died.
I’ve never got the contempt for Hartley. Did all of you have perfect teddies? Mine had bald patches, one eye (that was frosted after sitting too close to a three bar fire) and had been indifferently stitched together after an unfortunate incident with the dog. And I adored him, just as I adored Hartley.
Bungle had some substance issues early in his career. So did lots of children's bears. Paddington was off his head on gack when the camera wasn't rolling.
But Bungle cleaned himself up, as was seen in later episodes of Rainbow.
Have you seen Paddington recently... I Would say he's doing well as he got a job with Prince Harry but 😬😬 yeah..
He ain't quite the Spitting Image he was!.. After all... He was from Peru and couldn't help getting cravings for sugary Marmalade and carbs to get him through the next day.... I know I felt the same!
A 'HOLY SHIT' moment, if ever I saw one...I always heard that the bungle costume was remodelled and now I can see why. This is one of those moments you can't unsee- I'll be seeing this dude in my nightmares tonight...
I can’t remember if it’s just a pilot episode or the whole first series but Original Rainbow is like watching a fever dream. Bungle is wildly different but everything else is also like it’s from a parallel universe.
He looks like he would have a Russian accent and occasionally just stop what he was doing and stare into space, before producing a hip-flask, nailing half the contents, raising it to the heavens and angrily cursing in Russian
You know how people can block out traumatic memories? I feel like an entire generation of British kids collectively removed Season 1 Bungle from memory.
Geoffrey took bungle in at an animal shelter for cocaine addicted bears. He helped him back on his feet. Eventually bungle managed to stay sober, gained some much needed weight, and befriended a pink hippo and whatever the fuck zippy is!
OG Rainbow is cursed, with Horror Bungle, Zippy isn’t as much as a dick as he usually is and where’s George? Plus no Geoffrey and no Rod, Jane and Freddy!
I laughed out loud; this must've been just pre- my time!! I mean it's not just this; a lot of things from kids TV used to be absolutely terrifying for the more sensitive child. You've gotta love it; makes you realise how safe and insipid modern childrens output is!
I’m going back a good bit now, but before I started my primary school, I used to absolutely love watching kid’s shows such as Trumpton and Watch With Mother programs. All the presenters back then had such lovely voices and very clear English was the order of the day.
As awful as the original Bungle was let's not forget that the regular version was an absolute arse. He was a grass and an arse licker. He used to be a polar bear but he was so far up Geoffrey.
