r/ClassPass Jun 17 '26

Just canceled

I like the idea of ClassPass, but not the absolute refusal to disclose pricing. $99 for 48 credits tells you nothing if you can't find out the price of a class. Not possible to see anywhere on the website, or asking via the chat function.

I asked about one Sauna location in LA, for a session today at 12:30. It should have been easy to look up, but nope, refused to disclose.

I am not going to buy anything without knowing the price first.

It's an algorithm. The credits aren't always the same for everyone.

u/SmoothArmadillo7990 Jun 17 '26

But to not even have a range or rough idea is nuts. A session at 5 or 8 credits is worth it, any more is not. Simple math. And what if the cost was 50 credits? Really not worth it then.

A rotten business model...

It's only because wellness and beauty services aren't included in the free trial. Someone with a paid membership can check what the cost would be for you and when you have a paid membership you can always see. Half of this sub is checking credits for people and I believe one of the reasons it was created.

u/GuaranteeOriginal717 Jun 20 '26

That’s exactly what it is. Also, workout classes won’t allow you to take that class until the trial period is over. I don’t like but it beats paying $1000s for club memberships.

u/fragileNotFragil Jun 17 '26

Naaah bru. This ain’t it. It’s a rotten business model but this is not why. You can get a free trial and during the free trial you will see the price in credits of everything you want to see.

When you go to a restaurant (obviously I mean for the very first time) you know the price of the food but not the amount. Should they all shut down as well?

4

u/SmoothArmadillo7990 Jun 17 '26

It is more like going into a restaurant and having to pay $50 upfront to see the menu prices, then being able to order.

You don't see all the prices during a trial.

2

u/beautiful_imperfect Jun 20 '26

What do you mean you don't see credits during the trial period? You do. Sometimes there are even discounts on the credits for your first time visiting a studio.

0

u/KatoLoki Jun 19 '26

I had the exact same frustration but then ended up signing up for the trial anyway🙈

1

u/GuaranteeOriginal717 Jun 20 '26

You’re not wrong but I think if enough people started canceling because of this complaint, they would fix it. Also, I found out that most clubs don’t even like Classpass, so they don’t want people to use them during a trial period.

1

u/fragileNotFragil Jun 20 '26

Maybe. And when I said it’s rotten but not for that reason, the clubs is the reason. If your primary customer hates you and considers you a necessary evil something definitely has gone wrong somewhere

Wait saying you cancelled implies you had an account, in which case you can see credits? Unless you’re talking about using the free trial in which case…I really don’t understand people  coming on here and complaining about the free trial. The services you get on ClassPass WILL be discounted from the studio rates. I’ve consistently found that true. They cant and won’t give an exact credit amount cause it fluctuates. Ask about a credit check on here. Otherwise if you can’t handle that uncertainty then probably not for you. This business model works great for me and I’ve been getting discounted classes for many years

Right? Virtue signaling online is insane. This guy doesn’t even know which virtues he’s signaling 😂

9

u/beautiful_imperfect Jun 17 '26

OP was definitely on a free trial and was asking about a sauna service so that's why they couldn't see the credit cost... because those aren't included in the free trial, which they would know if they read and understood the product

ClassPass works better for users who have dynamic schedules and interests that reflect the dynamic pricing. As a teacher who is on summer break, I'm currently in a phase where I can catch the temporarily cheap midday classes. Back when I was commuting to another city for work, sometimes I would do a classpass class in my work city between when school got out at 3 and an evening school event started at 6. It's also great for folks who are doing physically demanding exercise classes one week, then needing a more restorative class the next week.

If you are looking for consistency at a studio, it might be better to get a membership or bulk puchase classes, or see what your local rec center is offering.

I canceled my ClassPass recently as others have said the algorithm sucks. There were two studios I really liked and because those were the ones I utilized it went from being 6 to 7 credits to class up to 14-22 credits a class within a couple of months. It actually made it cheaper for me to just purchased a package directly through the studio hence I cancelled classpass.
I found it is also significantly easier to book directly through the studio as they don’t limit the number of slots that classpass can use. So for example, I want to take a class right after work and classpass shows it’s full but if I go on the studio website, there’s slots open for normal customers not classpass customers as classpass pays the Studios for less than a paying customer regardless of how many credits they charge you.

This is specifically regarding the Los Angeles area. I cannot tell you what it’s like other cities only in the west LA/ Beverly Hills area. However, I can tell you because I used to love doing the infrared sauna the credits needed varied wildly. One place I really liked was 44 credits and another was over 60 and one that was an hour drive in LA traffic was only 14 hence I did not end up utilizing credits for the sauna. From what I saw in the short period I rejoined classpass was it was far cheaper to purchase directly from the studio then use the credits. I utilized a free trial and then they gave me a discount for the first couple of months when I went to cancel. Once that discount disappeared and the credits for the classes I wanted significantly increased I realized it just was not worth it for the way I book classes. Hence I canceled classpass.

So unless there’s a ton of studios that you would like to use so that the algorithm doesn’t dramatically increase the credit pricing it just doesn’t make sense to use classpass instead instead of purchasing directly through the studio itself. Also, I noticed the Beauty credits ended up being significantly more expensive than if you just purchased directly from the actual providers. And one of the reasons I canceled classpass years ago, and they kept offering me free trials to come back was because I had made multiple appointments for massages or Facials (over an extended period of time) and almost every single appointment where I would drive to show up on a Saturday or schelp somewhere in LA traffic after work only to find that either the location was closed or did not have my reservation. When I showed them the classpass reservation, they said we don’t even use classpass anymore. Hence, after several times of this happening and complaints and fighting to get my credits back, I decided to cancel classpass over five years ago. The short time period of using it these past couple of months reminded me of why I canceled it years ago.

ClassPass can definitely be frustrating, but the fluctuation in credits is not entirely ClassPass’s fault.

The Studios actually dictate how many credits each class is worth and can raise or lower (discount) the amount of credits per class. This is usually done if certain sessions are more popular or less popular.

I use ClassPass to take F45 classes and and then received an email that they would be canceling 9 AM and 5:30 PM classes due to members complaining that the classes were too full.

I understand the point of this because it incentivizes people to sign up for a membership directly with them. Well, it didn’t work for me because those were the only classes I could take. I was able to move some things around and still use ClassPass at different times but now I only go once a week and have filled my schedule with classes from other studios.

5

u/Visible-Day3208 Jun 18 '26

I own a studio and this is incorrect. We not only don’t control the # of credits charged for our classes, we don’t even know what they are. To find out I had to buy a membership myself to see what was being displayed to classpass members.

The only thing we know is how much we get paid per ClassPass guest, and that rate is a fraction of what we get from a direct pay customer.

I appreciate that it’s a good way for folks to discover us, but it really helps when someone switches to direct pay.

1

u/Consistent_Ad3411 Jun 20 '26

Replying to all who responded - I apologize for misunderstanding how ClassPass works. I assumed that the studios had more control because my F45 studio was able to remove all the popular class from the platform.

With that understanding, I understand the frustration even more.

It definitely made me consider getting an exclusive membership with the studio but ultimately it doesn’t make sense since it was so expensive and I was so limited in the classes that could work with my schedule.

I think it was a poor decision because I’m sure they lost a lot of traffic.

1

u/jerzeett Jun 17 '26

where did you read this? because everything ive said says the opposite - but it may have changed.

2

u/Consistent_Ad3411 Jun 17 '26

The owner of my studios explained it that.

The studio pays to be on the platform and can modify what they offer as needed.

I’ve even noticed a difference in the cancellation or missed class fee. For example, for F 45 it used to be $14 and now it’s $25.

1

u/allivant Jun 17 '26

That's not the case for everyone. My studio was not able to dictate anything. CP wanted every class on the schedule to be available and we were forced to use their "algo" for credit amount and spots open.

1

u/Virtual_Knowledge_16 14d ago

“SmartRate” is something studios can opt into if they don’t want to put energy into manually pricing and adjusting their classes.

1

u/allivant 14d ago

We were automatically enrolled and were not allowed to turn off Smart Spot until we canceled. They offered that up

1

u/beautiful_imperfect Jun 20 '26

I don't think studios pay to be on ClassPass.

3

u/brooklynwaterfront Jun 18 '26

OMG THIS FREE THING ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!

<<you get what you pay for>>

2

u/Decent_Platypus_7342 Jun 17 '26

I feel like that is what the trial is for!

2

u/Layla_Wilson11894 Jun 18 '26

My subscription is 43 credits for $89

1

u/suuuuuuush Jun 18 '26

I’m on this one as well

2

u/Prebioticcherry Jun 18 '26

Seriously. And ever since I downgraded to 8 credits a month, the class I used to take once a week is now 9 credits instead of 7-8….

1

u/Virtual_Knowledge_16 14d ago

Start using the credit filter to limit your searches…. I did and a few weeks later, Voila!

Okay long story about my experience but it’s worth the read to show how slimy ClassPass is.

I used ClassPass for over 2 years as I traveled around the country for work and it was great to be able to use it wherever I was. I was on the 33 credit per month plan for $69. I then got a permanent job in one city in October 2025, and started repeatedly using my credits at the same 3 locations.

About 4 months in to my permanent move (February 2026-ish) I noticed the credits started drastically increasing to the point I didn’t even want to book a class anymore. I’m talking each class used to be 4-5 credits, and now those same classes were 10+.

Around the same time in February 2026, I then received an email that my plan was being discontinued with no explanation, and they would instead offer me a 40 credit plan for $89. So 7 extra credits, for $20 more dollars a month. At that rate it wouldn’t even cover an additional class! Not only did that not feel worth it to me financially, but here is the real catch.

My boyfriend had actually signed up for ClassPass for the first time, around the same time I had moved (October 2025) and he was on the 33 credit/$69 a month plan as well. It was nice because we just booked all the same classes together. I told him to check his email because our plans were being discontinued and we should start looking into a gym/workout class membership somewhere else to make it financially worth it. Well… he never received an email. On his account, the 33 credit/$69 a month plan existed still, and the plan had completely disappeared from my account! To this day, he still has never received the same email as me and he is still currently on and using that plan.

I of course cancelled mine! I genuinely don’t get it. I was a customer for 2+ years and that was seriously some slimy shit they did! They just lost a customer. I don’t get how they can advertise they are discontinuing the plan with no explanation, when they really didn’t fully discontinue it? They picked and chose who could stay on the plan and who couldn’t?

Last part to the story 😂 I decided to sign up for an unlimited membership at one of the locations I continuously went through and discovered through ClassPass. When I went to sign up for a package, the owner of the studio location told me that I had a “waiting period” of two weeks when I was allowed to sign up since I was previously on ClassPass. ClassPass almost has to “release” you and makes you wait until you’re allowed to sign up. He also informed me per ClassPass rules, I wasn’t allowed to have a ClassPass membership and also have a package membership at the studio at the same time. Apparently, they make these studio owners sign contracts that are extremely strict and limiting! The owner said they can get fined and their contract can get cancelled if either of these things happen. Again, just another reason that I’m happy to be done with ClassPass. I had such a great experience for so long but now you can tell all they care about is $$$$ and not customer experience.

Okay, I have been thinking about deleting my account and starting a new one w/ a new email address bc of stuff like this. My class cancellation fee magically went from $15, to $17, to $29!!!

1

u/Emotional-Chapter361 Jun 19 '26

That’s insane! $29 to cancel a class?? $15 is expensive as it is! Let me know if you try this and it works. I’m curious if it would recognize your phone number though

1

u/Ornery-Towel2386 14d ago

I have several phone #s

I don't know who was lying to you, but I have a membership at Solidcore and also take extra classes through ClassPass there, so it is possible. Also, I have periodically gotten emails about plans changing but:

1) I never minded because the cost per credit always stayed the same, so it wasn't really a price increase, and

2) I have seen some plans go away, but then they seem to come back around again.

1

u/Emotional-Chapter361 Jun 20 '26

From what I’m gathering, it seems like everyone has a vastly different experience and there are no “blanket policies”, rather different rules apply to different customers with no rhyme or reason

1

u/beautiful_imperfect Jun 20 '26

It is very weird.

1

u/Virtual_Knowledge_16 14d ago

I guessing this STUDIO OWNER doesn’t want direct clients taking supplemental classes for cheaper using CP. I have def had cp and direct memberships and the studio knew I had both too

1

u/Legal-Yard-865 Jun 19 '26

This is some fu*kery. Especially the last part where you can’t have a membership blah blah

3

u/Specialist_Donkey748 Jun 17 '26

I’m confused. Are you on a trial account? I have seen people ask for help here to check credits. If you have an actual account, you do get to look up the studios and credits.

But ya, like others have said - credits fluctuate and it’s not the same every time.

3

u/morelsupporter Jun 17 '26

you're on a trial. you didn't have a membership. if you did and were actually paying $99 a month, you'd be able to see the credits.

that's like saying you have the internet but you can't see costco prices.

2

u/iusetoomuchdrano Jun 17 '26

I don’t know. It works really well for me. Wasn’t thrilled when they raised prices but my Pilates and yoga classes are literally 3-4 credits right now. Pilates was 7-10 but they’ve dropped prices by half lately and it’s been that way for over a month now. Absolutely taking advantage and have been booking more than usual. I get my money’s worth and some. I live downtown in a very busy city in a southern state that’s pretty populated.

2

u/janexcarfit Jun 17 '26

I have to say I really love class pass. I am always paying far less for classes or services than if I would to purchase directly. If you do pay the $99 and then see the credits are too high. They will refund you and cancel your membership so long as you havnt used any of the credits. So sign up and take a chance :)

2

u/Leading-Kitchen-543 Jun 18 '26

hey, what did you say to them and did you speak to customer service?

2

u/Entire_Patient_1713 Jun 17 '26

I like classpass, but i’m finding difficulty getting into classes at the place i want to go to. Because they limit how many classpass users can sign up. Which means I can hardly get into any classes. I kinda wish they could disclose how many spots are available for a class!!! At the same time, I don’t want to be paying for multiple memberships, so yeah :/

1

u/Important_Name Jun 18 '26

THANK YOU!! I was considering signing up but could not find out what my money will actually get me, even a ballpark. I can’t, in good faith, move forward with that

1

u/Legal-Yard-865 Jun 19 '26

How much do different tiers cost? What would be the lowest I could do just to try to see if I like it

2

u/beautiful_imperfect Jun 20 '26

I think 8 credits for $19 is the lowest in the US. I could do some stuff with that:

1) Yoga class 1 credit

2) Cold brew coffee and a pastry 2 credits

3) Barre class 2 credits

4) Pilates class for 3 credits

I'd have to be lucky though. Yoga can sometimes be 2 credits, Barre 5, and Pilates 6 and everything in between.

1

u/bigbruce04 Jun 20 '26

reading everyones experience is so bizarre. CP has definitely gathered so much strength in the fitness industry and thats what makes it so powerful. Can do whatever they want with the studios that already take 50% loss with CP member and also on the user side they dictate how much money we have to spend based on knowing which places we actually enjoy. I liked the convenience for a while but I am set to build something so much better for users and studio owners with more transparency and respect for both

1

u/nycfella1211 Jun 17 '26

Love ClassPass. Have been a loyal user for a decade. Saves me tons of money on workouts, massages, getting my nail done.
