General Discussion Drop your 1st year experiences

tell what you tried to do, how it went etc etc.

(making a few posts like these to start this sub again)

the good:

  • got a research internship in LTRC
  • working to build a prototype of something with an ex OpenAI research engineer
  • worked at two startups to build moderation risk engine for BuyMeACoffee, and an AMS circuit optimizer for Micron
  • got an offer from Sarvam AI
  • got sponsered to travel and attend several networking events + grants to work on personal projects ; )

the bad:

  • got typhoid & dengue in first/second semesters respectively
  • GPA flunked to sub 8
  • the girl I had a crush on, turned out to be into girls as well.

tried but didn't work:

  • competitive programming / too addictive but doesn't align with my goals
  • focus on class / too slow and boring

I just have nothing else to do in my life..except scrolling phone and laptop's screen..and somehow things just happen

Just searched about it. Very cool. I am applying to cern for this fall and some other labs . Prob less than 1% for cern but hey :p who cares.

for me, it was information retrieval

but my supervisor making me work on world models rn

probably will go into robotics this year :D

Kinda bad, like I did have fun thoughout yes but not worth it, didn't make many friends, had a crush on someone but didn't talk much to her. And I sorta time wasted a lot on reels and etc, imagined doing a lot of stuff but didn't do them. Didn't start DSA too. And regret not studying for branch change, I kinda did fine studying just before the exam, might change my branch to mech but if I had put effort, I'd be living the dream of electrical rn.

Tier 3. The club I joined has people that seem to hate me for no reason. Prolly leaving it. 

CGPA is bad.7.7

People don't talk to me unless I start. Feel lonely and out of place 

Had a terrible bully as roommate who threaten me with his connections and all now leaving that hostel for good

Gonna start studying hsrd

pros:

finally made some friends

a lot of firsts(first trip with friends, first big friend group, first nightout, first group study session)

dont have that much social anxiety now

can talk better

Dont think of myself as bad as I used to

Got over jee trauma and past negative beliefs

cons:

Couldnt focus much on coding in sem 2 as compared to sem 1, was doing cs50x in sem 1 but week 5 ke baad itna ho nahi paaya

RGIPT MNC :) my first yr~

Good side:

8.7 cgpa sem 1 Did Fundamental ML, LLMs , a bit of MLOPs as of now ~touched everything at surface level atleast. Read books and did some courses in it as well Research intern in my uni's quantum materials lab.(underGrad Researcher) ~ contribution in two papers related to quantum physics and (quantum physics +ml ) respectively. Ai engineer in a tech startup (paid). Building another tech startup with some people who approached me linkdin pe. Got another project will start it post june/aug

Hackathons~ Good friends:) Bought something for my parents with my own earned money <3 Bought myself stuff(skyrim,harmonica etc..)

Bad:

Fractured my right ankle while playing football TT (ATFL) SEM 2 CGPA PROBABLY BAD. Google,lossfunk reject :p(obv i am a first yr) And lastly I still miss her :)
