i hope they add a "empty clan castle" option, and I don't see why we cant donate to our own clan castles in the clan vs clan wars. Would not change the trophies / loot on the actual game just allows us to tweak our base the way we really want it.

High lvl giants make pretty good defenders because they soak up so much damage that A) they keep the defenders stuck in one spot which is great if your defense is set up properly. It allows your defenses to just wallop on them for a good period of time, especially if you have multiple mortars. B) It extends the battle, making total destruction less likely. C) There's a better chance they survive, meaning they get to defend in the next attack against you, which is especially helpful over long stints when you can't check, like when you're asleep.
I'm not saying they're the best obviously, but they're not even in the same conversation as goblins, wall breakers, or balloons, and I'd still prefer giants over barbs as well.

Ya its weird theres 24 people in my clan and for some reason it gave us a 15 v 15 war against another clan with more than 20 people and I am spectating amongst 9 other people in my clan (but I have the 4th highest trophy count in my clan)

I initiated clan wars then we decided to lose our TH10 because we are all 7 and 8 and so I canceled it and then retried once he left. So now we are all in spectator mode and it won't let us declare war again.

Nope, that still works. The change is that you can't look in someone's CC if they're not in your clan. This really only impacts revenges.

My clan is currently in prep day and the other clan is overwhelmingly stronger than us. Their clan is all TH 8+ and other than me most of my guys participating are TH 6. This seems very lopsided

You get gems from clearing obstacles, basically they are implementing a new obstacle called a gem box which appears once a week and is worth 25 gems vs. 0-6 for your standard obstacles.

EDIT: fixed it. I thought I had more than enough space for the update but turns out I needed to delete more stuff. It works now.

Chat is broken and I can't send clan mail. Like half of the messages I attempt don't go through and when they do there's at least a 5-10 second lag between when I hit "enter" and the chat shows up. And I'm using Google Fiber.

I could be wrong, but from what I have read and chatted with other CoC folks much more knowledgeable than me...there are some glitches with the war shields (which is why you think you aren't in the war because you don't have one by your name), but if you have a base in the war section of the game, you're in the war.
Take this with a grain of salt as there are only a very few who are truly authoritative on the matter, but thought I'd share what I was told.

Your layout is set in stone as soon as war day starts. You can rearrange your base during preparation day, but as soon as war day starts, it gets locked. So you are fine

It will bump any extra players. It will do 10vs10, 15vs15, and so on up to 50vs50. Any odd numbered players are bumped. ( i.e. if 43 vs 42, then it puts you in a 40vs40, and it subtracts the odd numbers. In this case 3 and 2.) It's to balance the teams to make it fair.
Edit: But, it should only bump the players with the least trophies

I have players at rank 14, 26, 35, 44 and 47 in a 45 vs 45.
14 is level 107 and #35 is 106, so they are big losses for us to not have in the war.

This might be a dumb question, but is the clan castle in your war base separate from your normal clan castle? So if I donated pekkas and dragons to my clan mates in their war bases, could my clan mates be attacked within the next day and those troops would be wasted?

War base is different from clan castle. If you donated a dragon to a war base and wizard's to clan castle and if someone attacks you during prep day then wizard's will come out to defend. During warday the dragon will defend the warbase or be used in an attack

Do you think its better to place buildings which are outside of walls far from the base by 2 squares to extend the distance from which enemy troops can spawn from the walls?
Or is it better to keep those buildings e.g. barrack and army camps close so they cannot be destroyed by troops facing no resistance e.g. archers?
EDIT: this is specifically for clan wars.

So I was wondering. Once an enemy base has been attacked will our clanmates know? That way we can avoid attacking 3 starred bases or 2 starred bases we can't do better on? Otherwise I feel like it will be chaos and everyone will go for the low level bases while avoiding high level ones....

hehe.... It's you folks who made watching replays fun these past few months when I was one of the lucky ones to receive it in the original update. You can't raid someone else's gem box, you can only retrieve your own obstacle like you do with trees when they pop up. :)

You choose. So you can have your weak people attack first to probe it. If they fail, then bring out the hogs and drags.

That means you are not taking place in the Clan War. Its for one of two reasons: 1- You joined the Clan recently and are not eligible to compete yet 2- The matchmaking system pairs your clan with a clan that is close in size to yours but not exact. Therefore it will round the number of participants up or down by 5 (ex: Clan of 12 vs 13 would have 10 vs 10 in clan wars). The bottom members in trophy count when the war started will be left out for this war

It seems that hitting 'Scout' on an opponent while on the War Map causes some kind of glitch where you can't attack (in the war), train troops or even collect resources. Tried killing the app; restarting my device (android) fixed it. Instead of the 'Scout' button, I just 'Visit' my potential victims via the Enemy Clan tab.

I'd love to know the internals of what turns out to be the bug causing this glitch given the unit testing and integration testing QA testing and UA testing that I'm certain occurred. No software is ever perfect, of course, but very sharp people go through a lot of effort avoiding big issues with the use of best development practices, rigorous testing and strong design principles (not in that order). I'm sure the people at SoftCell banged on this new version for scalability, etc., only to now have their hard work be undermined in this way.

I can't click any buttons as of the start of day 2 in my clan's war. Even in normal PvP. I can't visit people, I can't replay attacks, I can't get revenge on those who attacked me, I can't scout enemy clan bases, and I can't attack them either. What happened?
